Calling all kittens!! Companion Veterinary Clinic’s Kitten Kindergarten class starts Monday, October 15th at 6:30 pm. This class is for kittens 8-12 weeks of age.
This class will involve: -kitten play time -veterinary husbandry and handling -basic manners (yes, you can train cats) -teaching you how to best play with your cat
We will also cover feline body language and stressors. As well as how to prevent common behavioural concerns such as scratching, play aggression, litter box issues and much more!

Training your teenager class is for puppies 6-12 months of age! This is a great class to learn basic manners, tricks and help your dog focus with the distraction of other dogs and people. We keep class sizes small to ensure success for you and your dog.
Start date: Tuesday, September 25th-October 23rd from 6:30 pm- 7:30 pm. Orientation: Tuesday, September 18th from 7:30-8:15 pm.

Baxter came in for a Fear Free training session this afternoon. These are sessions designed to help desensitize and counter-condition dogs to the vet clinic, veterinary handling, nail trims, veterinary procedures and practice conditioning to a basket muzzle if needed. Baxter is a senior dog and has been anxious about going into the veterinary clinic and veterinary handling/procedures his whole life. Outside of the clinic he also suffers from anxiety when meeting new people. Today we worked on relaxation in the exam room as he is demonstrating with his “settle” behaviour, chin rest, desensitization and counter-conditioning to my stethoscope and a basket muzzle. These sessions are only 30 min long, so we can ensure he remains comfortable and can be successful. We did it! Companion Veterinary Clinic is a Fear Free Certified Practice. We are the first clinic in Alberta and the third in Canada to obtain this achievement.
In addition to having individual Fear Free certified veterinary professionals on staff, Fear Free Practice Certification required we meet 27 mandatory standards in addition to another 28 standards that required a certain number of points to pass. These standards included up to nine actions points in some instances to fulfil the requirements. Once we passed our self-care assessment we received an on-site assessment from a Fear Free veterinary advisor to ensure our self-care assessment coincided with how we implement Fear Free practices in our clinic.
When we opened Companion Veterinary Clinic in 2012 we had the vision to dedicate ourselves not only to the physical well-being of your pets but their emotional well-being. Fear Free practices have been implemented into our practice from day one but now we are proud to make it official.
The hard work and dedication to this Fear Free movement could not have been achieved without our amazing, hard working, compassionate and dedicated staff.
A huge thank you as well to our amazing clients for all their support!

Digit was doing quality control on our kitten kindergarten enrichment food dispenser. We also love to use these for our veterinary exams! This is a mini ice cube tray filled with canned food. This helps slow down fast eaters and is a lot of fun with dry treats and kibble inside as well. I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Benoit and his staff at Companion Veterinary! I have been bringing my fur babies in for almost 5 years and I never feel rushed, my questions are answered and my pet’s care is the most important thing. I have ALWAYS felt that treatments are suggested based on the animals care and not money. I always leave feeling happy and confident that my pets have received the very best care. Just recently I brought my cat in because she was sick and I received a follow up call to check in on her a few days later. You guys are simply the best!! Thank you for all you do!!

I can’t say enough praise for this clinic and their staff, especially Dr Benoit. Today my dog unfortunately needed emergency surgery today and Dr Benoit and his staff made everything very straightforward and easy. Taking him and fitting him into their day so that he wouldn’t have to be in pain. I have full trust and faith in their care team and I won’t be taking my boys anywhere else!

My cats have no problem visiting the vet. The staff are so friendly and caring. They take their time assessing my kitties so that they don’t feel stressed. They’re also so sneaky about injections that I don’t think my cats ever noticed they’d been poked! I’ve had bad experiences with other pets and other places, I’m so grateful to have happened upon Companion.

Was searching for a new vet last year after our long time one retired. Have had incredible experiences with our fur babies here. Compassionate and accommodating. The care and advice received is always in the animals best interest and not solely to make money.
Yes they have business hours (which I find actually very accommodating and reasonable in suiting our needs) and if outside of those hours you may need to visit one of the emergency clinics, however that isn’t different than our own human medical care needs generally.

Dr. Benoit and all the staff at Companion Vet are amazing. We switched to Companion about 2 years ago and I'm so happy we did. Everyone there seems confident treating my large dog without a muzzle. My email and phone call concerns about my dogs recent surgery have been answered within a few hours .

The absolute best vet clinic I have taken my pets to in all the years I've had pets. I will not take my animals anywhere else. Dr. Benoit and his staff are the best. Compassion, expertise, gentleness, quality of care, they are the absolute best. Thank you Dr. Benoit and staff.

We started taking our pets to Companion when we adopted them because it was the nearest clinic to our home, but now we honestly wouldn't go anywhere else! The quality of care and genuine affection that our pets have recieved there is simply incomparable. Our little senior dog has had two major health scares this year, so we've spent a fair bit of time at the clinic, and have been nothing but utterly impressed by their services. Dr. Benoit is always compassionate, incredibly thorough, answering any questions we might have and making sure we understand what problems there are or what our pets need. The vet techs are absolutely amazing with even our cantankerous little dog, and the front staff are so incredibly welcoming. I've never had the pleasure of meeting a more lovely group of individuals. Lastly, but not unimportantly (especially in the current economic climate), financially speaking their services are incredibly reasonable- for standard preventative care and emergency situations alike. There's nowhere else we'd rather spend our money, or entrust the well-being of our furry family members to.
