It’s only as you examine your life that you get to know yourself and to understand your personal motivations, values, desires, talents and strengths. It’s in developing these personal insights that provides the foundation of all successful leadership. https://cstu.io/6ad295

QUESTION: What was your dream job as a child? And what does that tell you about the kind of manager you could be now? Mine was to be a voice over artist for cartoons or to be the head of the United Nations. And if those didn't work out, I decided I would settle on being a teacher - of drama (my first career - I'm on my fourth career now). So what does that tell you about my management style? OK now it's your turn.

Next time you’re in a situation where you have to give a "fun" fact about yourself, especially when you can barely even think about a regular fact, keep these pointers in mind. https://cstu.io/cdf8eb

LEADERSHIP AND CARS: My first car was a Toyota Corolla. I have been a fan of Toyota ever since. And I have about 10 books about Toyota's management systems. My German dad's best friend was Japanese, so I was a fan of everything Japanese from the time I was little. What cars have influenced your life and your management preferences?

Many leadership development efforts are based on outdated notions around motivation. It’s time for leaders to change that. https://cstu.io/090090

FUN FACT: It is true that people are more likely to follow your leadership if they know, like and trust you. But did you know that a "personal story" at the right time can be key? One of my benchmark childhood stories is one my father told me about how he handled a bully when he was little. It really helped me to deal with my tormentor at the time. How about you? What's story you could use to help the people on your team?

As you develop the necessary self-awareness about what is actually attractive about you to other people, you will have a team of people who want to follow you, and willingly contribute their talents and energy towards whatever goal you need them to work on. https://cstu.io/63e3a7

DID YOU KNOW? You probably have a lot more control and margin for taking initiative then you think. It might surprise you to ask your manager what you have authority to do. In many cases you have a lot more than you think.
