I think it is one of the better hostels in Melbourne but in terms of ways it could improve I think the staff could be a bit more welcoming to guests, I had no problem with any of the staff but to make this hostel a next level they could talk to the guest's get to know them and try and help out on a more personal level

Good cleanliness. Nice staff. Great location. I stayed for 6 nights. Everything went pretty well with the hostel. No negative experience.

What comforted me most were the supportive and helpful staff members. The hostel was located at a good location where there was a nearby convenience store called Metro with a lot of food. There were also a bakery right on the left side and an iconic arcade with various cuisine on the right side as well as a Vodafone SIM card store next to it. All in all, this area of Flinders street is very amazing to stay and the room cost is understandable. Just sharing that you can get here by taking a Skybus and just take some minutes walking straight to the Flinders street. In the other way around, you can take a train to South Cross Station, take some steps then take the bus.

OK, I may be wrong but this is just my feeling. The guys coming to the hostel earlier formed a cliquey group. They played and cooked together in the kitchen. Most of the guests from other rooms didn't appear to be friendly and welcoming or that might be the common behavior of people in this city? I was just doubtful about this. The toilet and bathrooms were sometimes not clean maybe because there were too many people using them. There were no towel, no lock, no bum gun. I stayed here for 7 nights but my pillow and blanket weren't changed to the fresh ones even once! To be honest, what really missing and crucial in this hostel are smiles.

Great first experience staying at a back packers. The room was a good size. They store can store your luggage after you check out, the rooms and communal bathrooms are cleaned well. There’s also storage space under the beds that are lockable

Average city centre hostel. WiFi is not available in the rooms (only at additional cost) and where it is available it is VERY slow. A few other negatives include - expensive laundry facilities, a crowded kitchen space and the toilets and showers were often in use. They also apply a credit card charge at check in. Positive is it has a good bar and is in a central location. Would recommend looking elsewhere though.

Most horrible customer experience I've ever had overseas.

I booked 3 days of 8 bed room here thru AGODA app. The reason it was the nearest backpacker from the paid car park.

checked in well as normal as others.
But the time I opened the door, I could see 12 beds in the room. paid 8, got 12.

That was okay untill here. Sometimes it could be.

Right there, closed door and just went back to the reception.
What I heard at the fisrt time was "no more 8 bed rooms. but it was booked on me. Agoda booking system had some errors. So you need to call agoda customer service yourself and get the answer"

I listened that thing, felt weird. Nothing was changed at the first time. She answered me call Agoda to solve this thing myself.
only 3 days I have got to stay in Melbourne. Who wants to lose the time for it?

so I just asked for the full refund to get other accommodation urgently. But, what I heard was "whenever you stay, you need to come here tomorrow morning. Refund things only manager can do"

However, In the end of the time she got me 4 bed room and said "are you happy with it? It's free upgraded to 4 bed room which has ensuite bathroom"

Happy? I couldn't feel more horrendous.

This accommodation is connected with AGODA booking system. But there is no responsibility here for any trouble of it.

Great friendly service, great location, includes a nice place to chill if you get there too early and can't get into the room, fun bar, clean, love the color scheme.

Nice hostel if you like to socialize. Easy to make friends here. The 6 beds dorm is clean and nice with private bathrooms. Definitely will stay again when I visit Melbourne.

Worst night's sleep after a month of different hostels. The mattresses are uncomfortable and the beds squeak every time you or your bunk-mate moves. Three stars because the activities are well done.

Nice hostel! All guests seem to keep to themselves in the rooms but I'm not opposed to that at all. Fantastic location, great service and comfy rooms with outlets/light at each bedside

United Backpackers is in a perfect location in the CBD of Melbourne.

The staff where helpful and friendly during my whole stay.

The 4 bed room I had the first nights was amazing, I haven't slept that good in a hostel during my stay in Australia.

Everything was very clean. And the bar downstairs Lost and Found had games, activities and fantastic deals on drinks everyday, plus the bartenders are very fun and hot as well! 🔥

    Stayed here 6 nights

A friend and I came here last minute when plans fell through and it turned out to be an amazing choice! Rooms and bathrooms felt clean and spacious. Such friendly faces combined with a fun basement bar turned a hard day into a fun night! Damon was especially awesome!

Spent two nights here. First in a 8person dorm. Very clean and comfy beds. The other guests were pretty cool too, although asleep most of the time. The communal toilets and showers were average but good for a backpackers. Second night in the private suite was great. Good size, nice furniture, really clean and just great value. The staff were excellent and the location is second to none. Well done. I'm totally coming back here.
