New favourite place to stay in Sydney. Quirky and different, great location. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed our 2 night stay in a king room. The hotel had a good vibe and lovely restaurant/bar in the foyer with a decent breakfast. The minibar inclusion was fun. The ‘Social Hour’ downstairs at Mister Percy was a good concept, we found it quite funny though as the ‘snack’ provided each night was for 1 person not 2. We had to awkwardly share a tiny little soft taco one night and a little bao bun the next. I think probably best to either forget the snack altogether or make it per person so you’re not left with a stingy experience.
We were disturbed by a 4am fire alarm on our second night and had to fumble our way down the fire escape- maybe it was our semi-awake state but it wasn’t that easy to find the way out! We ended up at a couple of dead ends and were happy it wasn’t a real fire! So it wasn’t the most relaxing stay. We were told this was due to someone having a hot shower and the steam set off the alarm which for a hotel with lots of hot showers and steam seems like a bit of a problem! Maybe something to address. All in all a nice stay with a few hiccups.
Loved the super funky decor. Comfy bed. Decent size room. The whole feel of the hotel though is just cool.
Reception was so attentive and lovely to relay with during my stay and vey much made an effort to make sure my comfort was priority.
The restaurant downstairs was 🤤 +
It took two weeks for me to get my deposit back which is the only reason fir 4 stars. But otherwise, great stay.
We travelled from Canberra to stay at the 1888. The location is great its close to Darling Harbour, Pyrmont, China Town and is only a 10 minute walk to Town Hall. I cant explain how amazing the staff are. All of them are warm and friendly. It definitely felt like a home away from home.
The room was a great size we booked thinking it would be small but it was a great size and the bathroom was really nice. The shower was a highlight the large shower-head felt amazing.
I felt really safe because the rooms were really secure and super clean. The personal touches the staff go to really adds to the experience. I highly recommend staying here.
Brilliant staff, lots of freebies when you book online & a wonderful location. Only minus is that the pillows are too soft but I didn't ask for them to be changed so that's probably something that could have been fixed! *we stayed again and should have gone somewhere else for breakfast. It wasn’t very nice.
I can comfortably say that this our new favourite place to stay in Sydney.
From the start the communication of the room type, where to park and COVID requirements was all forthcoming and detailed.
From arrival we were struck by the quaint beauty of the “modern rustic” style inside. The room was perfect for our stay where didn’t need much room and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud.
The complimentary mini bar and snack bag in the room just adds a simple luxury to the stay.
Breakfast was simple but tasty with plenty of options to fill us up.
All the staff were nothing but friendly and helpful.
Did I mention the bedit was great!
Very good and quiet location..yet still in the heart of the city. Friendly staffthe hotel had a very family friendly atmosphere. Room was very clean, bed very comfy. Breakfast was delicious. Michael the duty manager is an amazing hostFriendly and accommodating. This will now be our go to hotel in the city. Great job Ovolotill we meet again.
Quirky boutique hotel a bit like QT and others but different at the same time.
Lots of inclusions for the price including:
(1) free small mini bar in the room (2 beers and 2 half bottles of wine), not enough to get drunk on but nice all the same.
(2) free continental breakfast (again only limited but a enough to fill you up)
(3) free happy hour drinks and canapes for one hour in the evening.
(4) Free coffee & tea
(5) free lollies to keep your energy level going through the day.
Decor is clever and quirky with some interesting artworks and the fitout celebrates the buildings history in a modern funky way.
Staff we super friendly and tried hard to make sure you had everything you needed and room etc was super clean fresh and new.
Only down side from the stay was that we had a ground floor room, so it offered no views and limited natural light as the window was frosted for privacy.
I would definitely stay again but would request a room on the upper floors.
My experience at the Ovolo has been fantastic. The front desk staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The rooms are nice and have everything that one needs for a stay in the Darling Harbor area. Plus, this hotel really takes the mantra "free" to heart. I was treated to a free coffee, shower, and bag holding when I arrived far before checking time. The fridge in each room is stocked daily with free drinks. Onsite self service laundry is available (and yes, free). Breakfast in the morning is free too, for continental fare. Of the three hotels I have been a guest with in the area over the last year, this hotel has been the best, hands down.
Loved this hotel. Staff are so friendly. The hotel has a great vibe to it. Free happy hour drinks and free mini bar was a great bonus! Would definitely come back.
Fantastic hotel. Fantastic staff. Ovolo know how to do customer service. I had mentioned it was my girlfriend's birthday when we checked in. On checking out the girl on reception and if she had enjoyed her birthday and then presented her with a donut with a candle to say happy birthday!!
Beautiful hotel. Comfy bed. Nice space. Good location. Minutes of walk to Darling harbour. To nitpick. Shower pressure was not strong enough. Breakfast included with the room is not great.
The room was a junior suite with two single beds. The room was spacious, nice and greatly comfortable and being near the Harbour and casino it made one hell of an 18th birthday. Pricing was good and in our package included all free things from our mini bar. The free breakfast buffet and free drinks at specific times was very fun and they even include a bday cocktail for whose ever it is. Definitely would stay there again
Simply put this hotel is a hidden jewel in the jungle of the Sydney CBD. If you want enormous rooms you get lost in this may not be for you but if you want a beautifully decorated, clean, intimate get away this is for you and don't get me wrong, the rooms are more then ample with all the best fittings. The hotel is an easy walk to Darling Harbour, The Star, The Lyric Theatre and even the CBD. Book through their web site and you get 'free' drinks 5.30 to 6.30 every day and free snacks, you get goodies bags in your room AND a free mini bar (limited but sufficient). On top of this and definitely the cherry on the cake are the staff. Without a doubt the friendliest group we have ever encountered and I have spent a night or two in hotels over the years
Fantastic boutique hotel with amazing service. Great inclusions like free mini bar, breakfast and happy hour when you book directly. No on site gym but you get access to the nearby snap fitness. Can't recommend this place highly enough if you need to be near Darling Harbour.
Room was small but comfortable. Nice vibe and decor. Great service. The only thing that bugged me was something clicking on the room throughout the night that kept us awake. Sounded like the air con panel. Would visit again.
Overall experience was one of the best stays I've had in Sydney. The whole time was a fluid transition from check-in to bar, to room to breakfast and the value for the experience was exceptional. Staff made it inviting and the atmosphere is something to beat.
The room, while a bit small was neat and unique, equipped with smart accessories and complimentary mini bar.
The following mornings breakfast buffet was basic but food was quality. The kitchen is available for more substantial meals as well.
In sum, an amazing stay and will be staying Ovolo again!
We are having an excellent experience at Ovolo 1888. Check in was fast, and because we arrived early and our room was not ready yet, they stored our bags to deliver to our room later and they have a shower room where we were able to get the grime of traveling washed off. The room is clean and very comfortable, with all of the modern luxury you could ask for, in a reasonably sized room. The free mini bar and snacks are a delightful treat, and the free breakfast and happy hour put the cherry on top. Not as central as some other hotels, but not far from many restaurants and shopping, especially if you like to walk.
By far one of the coolest hotels. Every fine detail was superb. Trendy. Artistic. Rustic. Probably the best hotel I've ever been in! And that's coming from a fair bit of travel
Staff are super nice and helpful, rooms are clean, free high speed wifi and mini bar! Pretty decently priced given the area. Would stay here again for sure.
After a lot of searching on line, we booked friends into six rooms to celebrate a significant birthday yesterday and also because of proximity to Sepia Restaurant for the evening, and it couldn't have gone better! The hotel is quirky, comfortable, and really cute but the staff are amazing! We travel regularly and have stayed at some fab places, but the staff went over and above what was offered and paid for. Oh, and did I mention that the prices are extremely reasonable too delighted all round!
Not the best location. Hip vibe with nice rooms, although mine had an interior window, as in a view of the elevator. Food was marginal. If it were less expensive I would be more inclined to recommend. But for the price, which was on the high end, I think there are better places in Sydney for the money.
