My partner dropped a single speed for a chain change. Was quoted $60-90 because "possible need for mudguard adjustment".
Firstly, there was no need for mudguard adjustment - it was touching the back wheel because the current chain was too short. You don't need to be a cycling mechanic to figure that one out.
Secondly, took 3 days to complete a 15 min job.
Thirdly, charged $70 without doing anything to the mudguards (as clearly nothing needed to be done).
Finally, after an appropriate review was left by my partner of Google - the store employee Andrew called her threatening legal action "for defamation" and saying that "we have your address"?!?!? Seriously????
I have called the shop as I could not believe that they would call someone and threaten them due to an objective Google review and Andrew tried to defend his decision!!!!
In summary:
1) incompetent
2) using ones bike mechanics illiteracy to wind up the price
3) rude and intimidating - how can this happen in the mordern day Sydney???
Andrew if you or the store owner would like to further discuss this matter with me please do not hesitate to contact me on the number I have provided you during our conversation.
I went there for a small job on my bike (changing chain and align mud guards). Staff was very short and unhelpful both times (at drop off and pick up of the bike). They also increased the price of the repairs without warning and when I asked about it, the person at the counter couldn't care less "the price is the price". I will not return to this shop nor recommend these guys, go to Bike 99 instead!
Laurence has been a revelation honest feedback on servicing, no dramas with fixing other shops
Mistakes and encouraging me to do stuff in my own where possible. I will be a long time customer. I can't speak highly enough of the Marrickville operation
Vastly more expensive than other stores.
Eg. I bought the shimano mx80 pedals for 2/3 of their price. If I'd bought on Wiggle it would have been less than half the price.
Do yourself a favour and go to any of the nearby stores for better range, service, and prices.
I've been a customer at the Marrickville shop for 3 or 4 years and always feel well looked after there. Laurence always provides pragmatic and honest options re parts, servicing and upgrades. No bull$hit, no hard sell, just good honest customer service. I'll continue to come back.
Bought my Apollo Trace 10 at the King Street store. Didn't really want to spend big cash as I was unsure if I would enjoy cycling. I love it. Unfortunately I have had a few issues with the bike since I bought it. It is only 7 months old & I have had to replace 2 rear wheels & now the gear shifter is broken. The staff here have always been courteous and offered alternate solutions to the problems I have faced plus chased up Apollo for warranty fixes and part upgrades. They have turned around bike in 1-2 days rather than several days waiting for parts from Apollo and they call back when they say they will. My partner also bought a bike from here and has had similar experience with the store staff & mechanics. Highly recommended local bike store.
I have come back to King Street Cyclery time after time. Why? Fantastic Service with wonderful enthusiasm. I have purchased 2 bikes for myself and my wife over the last two years and various other accessories. The prices are fair and I can't speak more highly of this business. Keep doing what your doing guys.
