Location is good but no own toilet in the room. Anyhow, it is a backpacker instead of hotel. Convenience and Cheap is enough.

Great place! Quiet at night and very clean. I like that they have mini-fridges in each room--really prevents clutter and messes in the kitchen. There's no real common area, but people sit around the kitchen table and chat. My only complaint is the showers: you either have to bring all your clothes into the shower stall or risk exposing yourself. They're also a tight squeeze between the toilet and sink, so there's a good chance of bumping into someone while exiting the shower.

This hostel is great value for money. The beds are comfy enough and the rooms are spacious. The WiFi if one of the best internet connections I have ever used. However, our room had more than a few cockroaches each night but if you aren't squeamish then you should be fine. Major problem is the showers. One of the men's showers was out of order during my stay and there is a sign asking to please limit shower time to 5 minutes. Not everyone can shower within this timeframe and deal with queues of people waiting, so here is a tip. Go to the public showers at the Esplanade as you can take as long as you need and have great water pressure.
Caravella staff are friendly, welcoming and answered any queries we had. If you want a basic hostel for good value then this is the place to go.response / report this review -

An excellent destination if your end is a cheap night's sleep. On a hot night, the dorms are something to be endured, not enjoyed. Do yourself a favor and splurge on a hostel that has more than one sink in the kitchen and shower heads taller than 5'9''. This bare bones hostel has the necessities, but not much else.

I was expecting more because I saw few people talking good things but it wasn't true. The pillows weren't good, the fan wasn't enough for 4 people and the room was close to the street, so we didn't sleep well. Too noisy!!! But if you wanna save money, it's ok. :)

Clean, never nosy, friendly English ginger girl in a reception. Very close to main attraction of cairns up to 10minutes walk. Bad thing - there should be breakfast.

I disliked this place quite a bit, stayed at a 4bed dorm and the beds were not very good and room not cozy, we had a mini fridge 2 bunker beds and a lavatory it was ok for a couple of nights then we left, the kitchen is very big and is well located though. But wouls not book again.
