It's not bad, the only thing is people kind of expect you to look at them, bar tenders aside. It's kinda gay if you ask me. People may be testing well they lost the second they expected anything from me. I'm out. Any way lovely weather.

I’m down from Townsville for a concert, and made this my temporary local for a few days. Great prices, great atmosphere, good little town. Markus behind the bar is a sensational bartender, kid can mix good drinks, great service and very friendly. Will come back in future when I’m in town!

If you're in the mood for a good quality pub steak then you're guaranteed to enjoy. Probably one of the better pubs I have been to in Mackay.

The Austral Hotel in Mackay cooks some of the best steak meals in town with a good liquor barn adjoining. A good place to catch up and have a meal.

A large group of us dined here recently, despite being a Monday it was very busy.

As expected the meals were a little slow (they were very busy).
The meals wonderful and enjoyed by all at our table of 10 except one bloke who whinges about everything.

I haven't been back to the Austral in 25 or so years. I had some time to spare before my train left so I got a cab there. The staff was very welcoming and friendly so I stayed for dinner, the lovely lady behind the bar suggested a garlic bread before my honey chicken. The food like the service was great, I can't wait to go back some day and have a go at their steak as they looked good in the display case.

For a steak house, the steak is so over rated. And they can not even cook to the correct liking order a medium raw steak and is well well done. Ask the staff about it and they just go that looks medium to me. Food was very average really and completely over priced. Drinks were overpriced, when does a schooner of heavy beer cost you $11.50. Ridiculous. Service was below average and staff barely said two words too you. Completely 100% overated.
