Great service and good choice. A nice twist on Aussie bush tucker.
Fabulous meals great views of trinity inlet. Friendly and hospitable staff along with professional service well done.
Food was tasty and liked that I was able to try Australian food (kangaroo). But it took waaaaay too long. Took a long time to get our drinks and even to place our order. Mains were over an hour from ordering and 45 minutes from starters. By the time it came i wasn't really hungry and just ate it because it was there, a real shame for a $54pp meal.
We (my wife, 6 yo son and I) had dinner at Ochre tonight and in the end we were utterly disappointed.
The atmosphere and location of Ochre are really nice. The barman was fun, friendly and attentive.
We ordered the seafood platter for two (at $76 per person) and Kids fish'n chips for our junior.
What we liked:
- Oysters
- crocodile (although less batter would be better)
- Tempura bay bugs (again: less batter is more)
What we didn't like:
- salmon was well overcooked
- crab was undercooked
- salad and salmon were swimming in oil
- fries are weirdly spiced with Paprika
- nearly everything seems to be deep fried and battered
- the kids' fish had bones in it (which we complained about, and which was professionally dealt with in that we didn't have to pay for the kids' meal)
- overall service and courses of the meal was very slow, which was accompanied by missing cutlery, lack of a bowl for crab waste etc (ie all up just too little care)
- nobody asked during the meal what we thought of it
When I paid I was finally asked of my opinion and hence I did share my disappointment, which resulted in a small discount.
But the key point is: when you pay $76p.p. for a seafood platter, you do expect excellent quality seafood and not this. A discount doesn't make up for the disappointment in this sort of situation.
Great outlook on the marina and boats. Food was ok but not great, service and cocktails excellent. Would probably skip this one if looking for something special.
Modern Australian done very well. Basically fine dining, with attention to detail to ensuring the flavors mix well. The cocktails have an Australian twist to it too. It is pricey, but that comes with the quality it attracts. Would love to come back to try the rest of the dishes.
Great service, ravioli and pork belly starters were beautiful, very much enjoyed those two dishes. However the mains were not as good, the barramundi main, the fish had a weird taste to it, the battered part was too oily. My partner had the duck for his main, the sauce under the duck did not work well together for us both. Dessert was lovely.
Went for a special date night and was very impressed with both the food and the friendly staff.
Had the crocodile which was delicious! Also the dessert was the best I've ever had! Can't remember what it was called though. Number 3 on the menu!
Yes, it's not a cheap place to eat, but the quality of the meal was next level. I experienced flavours, foods, and presentation not seen in normal eateries. Worth the experience!
My wife and I came for the Valentines Day Special - I can say without doubt it was the best meal I’ve had in Cairns and we will definitely be back.
Your staff are amazing, with good humour, and very good service. The views are great, the tables are well spaced and there is a really nice vibe throughout.
We weren’t bothered by waiters unnecessarily and we served quickly when appropriate. Drinks came quickly, and it was an all round fantastic evening that was well worth the money.
Also a very impressive range of Fine Wines, Spirits, Whisky's and Vodka's which is always a blessing.
Also the free craft beer and champagne on arrival really hit the spot.
Thank you so much, you must be very proud to own such an establishment. Definitely now a customer for life!
The Ochre restaurant was recommended to me by a local guide. We were seated and the staff were more than involved in the older couple next to us, seemingly disinterested and bored with our custom. The food however, was a delicious master piece. The crocodile was excellent. I must thank the kitchen staff for their impeccable cuisine.
Sunday afternoon pleaser. A group of friends and I enjoyed some extremely tasty treats from Ochre's afternoon bar snacks menu (the Calamari skewers and Pork Belly were highlights). Bar staff were great making decent cocktails. 3 piece band playing jazzy blues and the superb harbour/ocean/mountain range backdrop just caps it all off. Get there!
I've dined at Ochre many times over the years and always loved it. Now that they have moved to their new location down near the marina they have a great view to accompany the amazing food and friendly staff. I like the fact they use Australian bush foods in their meals and would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a great meal in Cairns. Try the pork belly!!!
Fine dining with authentic Australian flavours. My partner and I had the summer six course tasting with paired wines. Each dish was artfully presented and we were shocked by a few interesting choices. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the dishes they were serving. The view on the water front was nice and relaxing, and the decor was beautiful. Overall we had a fantastic experience and we will be back again to try the rest of the menu.
