I recently stayed at Above Bored for a two week stay while in Perth on business. I chose this property mostly due to its proximity to the office I was working out of, and the positive reviews. It wasn't particularly close to the office, but far closer than anything else, and offered a mostly idyllic walk back and forth through up-scale neighborhoods with a few mad dashes across a busy street! I could probably have planned my route to avoid that.

Sarah was extremely accommodating, and was my idea of the perfect B&B proprietress -- always available, always helpful, but despite living just a few steps away, never lurking around, or popping up unexpectedly.

Sarah and her hired hand, Mike, went above and beyond to make my visit pleasant, helping with everything from a place to stash my bags after an early morning arrival in Perth (landed at 5:50am, so well before checkin time), to moving my bags between rooms during the two nights that my standard room was unavailable, to assisting with laundry services, to advising on places to eat or shop for food and snacks.

I spent most of my visit in the King/Twin room, with the separate bathroom. The bathroom has the cool underwater fresco painted on the upper walls and ceiling. It really is a sight to behold! The bathroom has a lock on the door, but I was never overly concerned about someone else using it while I was out, or stealing my toothbrush. I just left some of my stuff on the bathroom counter to indicate that it was a "personal space", and as far as I know no one went in there. The King/Twin bedroom itself is a decent size, has a wardrobe and a chair, bedside tables, and a convenient luggage rack, but my personal preference would have been for a small desk and simple chair in the corner where the big chair normally goes. This would have saved perching my laptop computer on my lap or on the corner of the bed. Watching movies this way was perfectly fine, but doing work was somewhat awkward. Of course if you're here on vacation, and nearly everyone would be, you should be discouraged from doing any work!

I spent two nights in the Garden Room. This room feels smaller than the King/Twin room, but it contains a stand-alone kitchenette and bathroom. This room actually does provide a small desk. Very small, but quite welcome. Unless you have a massive laptop computer or a ton of paperwork to lay out, it should fit with room to spare.

The breakfast provided was of good quality. Not a lot of variety, but I don't seek a lot of variety in my monrning meal. There were cereal, milk, eggs, yoghurt, fresh fruit, bottled water, orange juice, coffee/tea, bread/toast available, and several spreads including butter, jam, marmelade, honey, and something I assumed to be vegemite (I did not acquire a taste for it!). If that was not vegemite then something has gone horribly wrong with the Nutella! Just kidding, I'm certain it was not Nutella (now).

I would recommend this place to anyone, short term visitor or longer-term, though if I was to come back and stay for two weeks again, I'd probably book earlier to ensure I was in one of the self-contained rooms the whole time.

The best accomodation we have ever stayed at with our little Yorkshire Terrier! He loved the cottage, the garden and our Hostess Sarah! We were there nearly two weeks!
Very clean and comfortable and we checked out the rest of the property too and it was all beautiful and tastefully decorated! Comfy bed and good access to the rest of Perth!

This was our third stay with Sarah, though first time in the main house. This time we stayed in the room with the ensuite and it was excellent. Lovely "wood fire" in the bedroom was great in the morning. Breakfast was everything you need.

Sarah always makes you feel very welcome but is not intrusive.

Recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay close to the city.

We stayed in the king bedroom made up with two single beds - still plenty of room. This comes with a separate bathroom (across the hall) with ceiling decorated with underwater fresco. We were impressed with the theme being carried through to the minature fishing basket, sailors piping whistle and even a diver's helmet on the keyring! Very quiet location with secluded garden - wish we could have stayed longer and sat in the garden with a glass of something cold. Excellent make up yourself breakfast and all at a very reasonable cost.

It was a pleasure to have stayed in the Paris room with its own garage and private entrance for a week. The location of Above Bored Bed and Breakfast is extremely convenient, just minutes away from the city centre of Perth. It was set back from the main street so there were never any issues with noise. Sarah was very helpful and kindly lent me her street directory which helped me navigate the streets of Perth. I also appreciated the stable and reliable wifi connection I enjoyed during my stay. I look forward to staying there again on my next visit to Perth. Highly recommended, a real home away from home.

Lovely private bed and breakfast. Exceptional service, gorgeous location. Lots to do in the area and lovely place to just chill and relax. The gardens are gorgeous and the interior is tasteful and homely. The gas fire in shared living area is so warming in winter. Favourite part was the ceiling fresco in the bathroom. Least favourite part was the bed, two twins pushed together does not in my mind a good bed make. However the linen was rich and comforting.

I discovered Sarah and Above Bored when I first visited Perth 7 months ago and enjoyed it so much that I have now stayed at least 10 times and I regard it as my home away from home.
Everything about it is perfect the beds in each room are clean and a little too comfortable as some days it is hard to leave having stayed during summer and winter the ambience is the same with excellent gas fires in winter and crisp cool air conditioning in Summer..
Its location is probably the biggest thing you are 2 minutes to North Perth shops and restaurants and only 15 minutes into the heart of the city.

I highly recommend anybody coming to Perth to do yourself a favour and stay at Above Bored
