Poor service. Car booked and paid for was not available and front desk staff were mostly rude.

Great service and generally the best priced, and unlike another major car rental company in SA, there weren't any hidden charges that one needs to be weary of.

Worst experience to date with any car hire company I have ever had!!!

They still withholding my deposit and wont release it with the bank. It's going on 12 working days now and I have tried to get a hold of the Manager Craig with no success. I have left two messages on his personal cellphone and I'm currently awaiting a response. I've had the pleasure of reading multiple hello peter complaints as well a google reviews and this seems to be a common norm.

No matter how I go about following their recommendations of making a formal complaint or dealing with management directly I'm left with no result.

I'm considering legal action in some way as this is not acceptable.

Save yourself the unnecessary stress and rather use another company as this is pure blackmail and extortion.

Rented a car from 17-01-2018 untill 20-02-2018 with a gps at extra cost.
At collection of the car the thrifty emplyee Cris on cape town airport tried to get the GPS installed.
Without succes. He gave up and walked away.
I had to leave for an apointment and tried to get the GPS going.
    No succes.
I using my phone at the moment.
    No problem
Can Thrifty return the rental fee at the time if delivering the car back on 20-02-2018.?
The GPS NEVER USED DURING THE RENTAL PERIOD

Now 01-04-2018 still in dispute with Thrifty.
The GPS they charged me fully.
When I redelivered the car the thrifty person checked the GPS and agreed the GPS was not working. He made a note on the redelivery form but the office of Thrifty is not accepting this. So I had to pay the GPS fully.
Thay even made an extra charge for the fuel.
I collected the car with a 7/8 tank and delivered it back with a full tank.
Thrifty promised to book this charge back into my account.
Promised several times but no result.
Its only a small amount so thats not the problem.

All in all a very bad experience.

Rented a car last month and was charged additional charges after returning. I have been trying to email them multiple times to figure out what the charges are for and they have not responded. I'm trying to get some paper work as well for my insurance company and haven't received anything after emailing them for weeks. I am from a different country so I'm not able to call them and email is my only option as of now. The lack of communication is frustrating and unprofessional. Don't rent from this location. If you have problems for some reason after returning the car they will not respond to you. Stay away.

We arrived in Cape town on a Saturday and we were desperate for a car . Due to us not having a credit card we were turned away harshly from a previous car rental company. We ended up at Thrifty and I was so impressed with the patience and courtesy the woman treated us with. We got a car the was clean and to make things better it was fuel efficient to. I was very impressed with the woman's service. Sadly I do not remember her name but I now know that Thrifty in Greenpoint will be my first and only option because of her

I have sent numerous emails, phoned about 10 times!! Their phone lines are so bad - I had to call back 6 times. WORST company!!!

Disgraceful, dishonest and badly managed. Avoid! They overbook their fleet and cancel bookings without notification, then filter stranded customers through to a separate company at a higher price. #kickback Extremely unprofessional! The manager stood there lying about how rare this was with a laminated policy, blaming us for not providing contact details although we had email confirmation, proving they could contact us. She was caught out when 2 other customers who had booked the same car type had the same problem and were given the same lies within the 40min we were stuck there. The secondary company we picked up the car from also verified the mismanagement at Thrifty, saying it had happened at least 50 times recently. Don’t rely on Thrifty Rentals, go elsewhere.

We rented a Chevy Spark online and came to find that we were given a Datsun Go. If the model you have booked is not available, you will receive a 'similar' model, according to this company's policy. The Datsun Go is South Africa's unsafest car according to recent studies and didn't hold up to the winds of Cape Town. We were forced to use Uber most of the time due to feeling unsafe in our rental car. Our attendant didn't think it best to inform us that model swopping had occured. He didn't even bother to explain to us the policy regarding the swopping and we would probably have gotten to the car and then only realised it was different if we didn't notice it on the booking form. They weren't very helpful with regards to our situation and as we booked online we couldn't cancel our booking without losing our money. The manager wasn't very helpful or sympathetic to our situation so ultimately after waiting for over an hour we were forced to take a car that was unfamiliar and unsafe. Meanwhile we spotted two Chevy Sparks in the parking lot, on our way to the dreaded Datsun. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.

What a joke this place is. Got back to Australia over 2 weeks ago now and they still have my bonds. I have emailed them 3 times now and have not replied once. Rang them yesterday and they said it will take another 2 to 3 weeks because they didn't process it. Takes a second to take my money out of my account but over a month to receive it back.

I've rented a car 09 - 17 Dec. 2016. After several calls and e-mails they just don't return calls or answer e-mails still waiting for my deposit. I also told them that the car needs a serious service. 17 Feb.2017

Huge line ups for car rental collection. Then turns out they don't even have enough cars on the lot and you have to wait 30+ minutes for cars to be returned. If I could give zero stars I would. The rental agreement stated the deposit would be 5000 ZAR but for some reason it's 6000 ZAR. The price made us choose them however probably worth paying more elsewhere.

I hired a vehicle from the Cape Town Airport branch for 2 weeks. I got to the branch after have reserved a car online 3 weeks prior to arriving there. It was early evening. The price was very reasonable. The staff were courteous and helped me immediately. The vehicle that they gave me was the one that I wanted. It was in good condition and the gent who handed it over was prompt and efficient. Returning the vehicle was simple. A good experience. I would recommend Thrifty anytime.
