I enjoy spending afternoons at Rick's. The bar is welcoming and offered a good variety. The food is a little expensive, but worth it. One of my favourite meals is the lamb shank or the veggie falafels on pita. The upstairs area is particularly comfy for larger groups. The coffee is also good quality. In the summertime I would recommend sitting on the outside veranda, it's a good spot to do some work and to people watch. The street is constantly busy and there is always something to see. The WiFi is free. It is also a good place to sit with friends and plan the weeks activities.
What a fabulous restaurant! It sublimely combines the cafe style with the Moroccan and produces food that is a gastronomic delight. Whether you choose a burger or a more exotic dish, you won't be disappointed and it's good value for money too.
Portions were massive definitely value for money. I'm not a big beer drinker but I tried Black Jack, OH MY WORD! Amazing!!! We loved the atmosphere. Small hint, book first before going. Plan accordingly. Parking can be limited.
Its hard not to feel like you've stepped back in time when you walk through the door. Luscious Moroccan decor adorns this listed building giving you an authentic feeling of actually being in Casablanca. The menu is as authentic as the decor and they also cater for those who prefer local dishes. Cheery, bright floor staff tend to your every whim, nothing is too much trouble.
While the food and service we're first class, be warned that smoking is allowed inside. Although they compensate by keeping the windows open, it will still bother some. However, there is outdoor seating and this area was notably busier than inside. One tiny gripe - in their efforts to keep an authentic theme, you might find yourself sitting on a low couch with cushions but no back support. It can get a little uncomfortable after a while, for me and my back anyway.
Were they to ban indoor smoking I'm confident this bar/restaurant would be booked out weeks in advance.
I had a great experience with my friends. The food was amazing and so was the staff. We had burgers as those were they only choices if you not into Moroccan food. Although they have a happy hour special there isn't much of a difference between the normal prices and happy hour prices. But overall it was a good experience
Good location. I go here often and like this place. You always know what you'll get and it's always good. Good service. Decent wine list. Food menu hardly ever changes though.
Beautiful cozy restaurant hidden away. Perfect spot for enjoying a few drinks
Location: Beautiful restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Few fireplaces and a upstairs section with balcony
Service: Quick friendly service
Menu: Very good variety, I have to admit I really enjoy the options on Menu
Food: Beautifully presented meals however lack a bit in taste. Not the best in the area
Price: Concidering the price of the meals you would expect tastier food
You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss,
a sigh is just a sigh.
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.
And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by.
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date.
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate.
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate that
no one can deny.
It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die.
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

Really great place. You need reservations to come here, especially on weekends. The place was packed. Food is on point and their happy hour is very happy. We had the Tapas platter and a couple tajines. Everything was delicious and we were stuffed. Only critique is how long it took to get the check. Sitting outside we felt a little forgotten and had to ask for the check 3 times before going inside and asking the manager to ring us up. Overall, the food made up for that, just an area they could improve on.
Great for the cold days! The bar has 2 fireplaces to keep you warm. Also a great spot for the smokers, pretty much everywhere in bar is allowed to smoke. The burgers are a great call if you are hungry, I also had a goulash soup before and it was exceptional! Good beer and wine selection and great cocktails. The decoration is classic and vintage with a morrocan touch. Good music and overall ambiance.
We happened on this place accidentally while looking for a place to eat dinner and it was a pleasant surprise. Food was tasty and the ambiance was cozy, lively, and chilled at the same time. The food was excellent. The Moroccan baked line fish and the duck tajine were both very good.
Unassuming & hidden away from the throngs of hipsters in kloof street. I stumbled upon Rick's a few months ago and fell in love. Chose to watch rugby at the bar with my partner and it was great. Cool decor, rooftop area and massive smoking area. Food is decent and awesome happy hour specials.
Best ribs (from the tapas menu) in town. Plus customer service in this place is really great. Been coming to ricks for years and have never left disappointed. Perfect for winter days, cozying up by the fire, or summer days, on the rooftop deck watching the mountain as the sun sinks, cocktail in hand.
My husband and I headed right for Rick's when we arrived in Cape Town, looking for fellow Americans with whom to watch the Senate hearing where former FBI director Comey was testifying about Trump. We were very naive to think it would be broadcast here in South Africa. Also naive to think we'd find Americans there! (Although, it was a Capetonian who suggested we go there for that purpose.) So, we watched it on my phone, and the manger there (I think her name was Lexi) could not have been more sympathetic or accommodating! She tried to get the PBS website we were using on her laptop, then tried to route my cellphone signal through the TV. When none of that worked, she rigged up an "amplifier" using a plastic bin covered with a ceramic bowl. Worked great! Also great were the cocktails and the tapas platter. Fun place, warm atmosphere, young crowd (except for us!). Highly recommended!
Thoroughly enjoyed the mushroom and butternut risotto! Service was excellent. Even allowed us to bring along a cake with no charge (it was a birthday). Will definitely be back!
Very nice (and big) burgers. Awesome setting especially the rooftop dining area. Service has been good on all 3 occasions I have been here. Recommend burgers or tagines and a Jack Black draft beer.
My favourite place to go in town. .Summer outside and in the Winter inside by the fire place with a glass of wine is a great pleasure. ..food is delicious, whatever you order, you will not go wrong. ..Love it. ..
Service is really slow.
We sat down inside and asked for a table outside, we were then informed we could move outside - only for the hostess to come and tell us some other people had been waiting longer (which they hadn't).
We moved back to our original table, only then to be asked if we wouldn't mind moving somewhere else so they could seat some people who wanted our table.
Also, be prepared for your orders to take forever, and the waiter/waitress to take forever to get to you as they cover too many tables.
Love this place specially for after work drinks. Great food and lots of veggie options. Also have an amazing tequila selection of the type that's so good you can sip it 😊
Love this place. Have had many great nights here. The food is incredible- there's a number of vegetarian options. My favourite is the vegetarian burger. The atmosphere is good and the service is fantastic.
