I ordered a medium done fillet steak with mushroom sauce but was given a well done sirloin steak with no sauce. The mushroom sauce was brought to the table when I was almost done with the steak. Food was not hot. Roasted veg was good. Poor service.
I really enjoyed my meal (grilled calamari and salad). I would like to go back to enjoy some of the other meals. I like that the meals are simple and the short menu has some sort of variety. The staff are friendly. On the downside, I personally don't like the farm's wine and luckily there are other brands on the menu
Dissapointing and clumsy food at a very high price. Single wine order was confused and served in thick short glass - a no-no for any self respecting wine producer. Nice vibe under the trees outside. Noisy under the veranda and clumsy decor inside.
Beautiful restaurant with a lovely garden area. Waiters are attentive and quite helpful. The food was delicious and so was the wine
Food was phenomenal. I tried the vegetarian pasta, for a meat lover a rare choice. It was really tasty and I didn't miss the meat at all from this dish. Others in my party had meat dishes and they too were commenting on how good the food was. The only thing I can fault is that there was only one waiter. He tried very hard to service an entire dinner service. He did well but it did lead to some delays.
Waited almost 2.5hours for our food to arrive despite having to ‘pre-order’ in the week!! When it finally did arrive it was the thinnest most dry piece of steak I’d had in a long time AWFUL! If you want to charge the same prices as other farms in the area I’d suggest you improve your service and hire a better chef 😡
Friendly staff, beautiful venue but the food took ages and I wasn't that great. Context, we were 13 people so one expects a longer wait than usual but it almost took an hour and a half for our food to arrive. They did however give us a free bottle of wine to make up for it. So it's a mixed review. Conclusion: The one question I ask myself after I've been to a new place is, "will I go back again?" ..That's a difficult question. But I guess that proves my point.
On Sunday we celebrated a 70th birthday party outside at Poplars with 24 people. Food was excellent and ambiance pleasant. Highly recommended.
It seems as if the staff at Populars can not get it right. On a basic menu, not the one on the website, they could not manage to deliver on good dish to our table of 7 people. None of the steaks were done as ordered. Most people at home can braai a steak better than the kitchen at Populars. The same goes for the grilled fish we ordered. It took ages before the food arrived and then to get such a disappointment on your plate is nowhere acceptable.
If 0 stars was an option that is what I would have given them which is a shame as this place is so beautiful, unfortunately setting does not always make up for pathetic service and horrible food! After a torturous hour wait for food, the food came and was something that I would best describe as a war field on a plate! Cold, Chaotic and Raw! I never knew one could screw up mushrooms but they even managed to do that! Not even their fruit juice is palatable. I will never return to this disaster of a place! Even to get drinks takes 30 minutes minimum!
No stars actually. Went to have breakfast at Poplars. We ordered drinks, which only arrived after half an hour. Then they got the orders wrong. But the worst was my friend found a COCKROACH in her food. The manager's attitude was appalling. When my friend told him about the cockroach he asked if this was another thing we wanted to add to our list of complaints. And he also asked if it was a big or a small cockroach. What does that matter, there should be NO cockroach near the food? We didn't have to pay for our breakfast, but then again, none of us had an appetite for it. But it doesn't make up for the managers rudeness and incompetence now does it
Lunch was great. Well prepared and presented. Service was good. Only problem was the description on the menu and the food we received was not the same.
We did complain and the manager did apologise. Still tasty though.
Setting is lovely. Nice wine selection.
So disappointed in the poor service. Only two waiters on duty. Such a beautiful setting but the stress of lack of service ruined the experience.
My all time favourite wine farm with restaurant, back yard area offering live music on Friday evenings, outdoor heaters, very child friendly with jungle gyms, indoor smokers lounge with bar and fireplace, separate dining areas inside and outside, venue hire, gardens, views, beauty. I'm in heaven!
Good wine. It is a very cool place to relax on lazy Saturday afternoon.
Lush tree setting. Close to Durbanville Wine Route main thoroughfare. Upmarket venue. Not so child friendly.
One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Service is slow but understandably so as the food is made as you order. Well worth the wait
Service was OK, food and the atmosphere are trying to be something they're not. Ordered a medium rare steak which arrived well done. When I sent it back the excuse was the the steak was mature and just looks like that.
When the replacement steak arrived it was rare. Desert was underwhelming.
Relaxed ambiance. You can have an informal atmosphere outside or more formal inside. Food is usually well above average and the staff very friendly and professional. They have some unusual pizzas that I strongly recommend!
