Amazing place. There is so much history here. The building is beautiful! This place is very educational. The giftshop lady said students would stay in the building in the 1960's. There are beds and showers. I would love to see overnight tours. It is rumored Yerkes will be dismantled and various pieces will be sent to museums. I can only hope it is considered a historical building and it stays in Williams Bay.

Observed through the historic 40" scope. Amazing to use this instrument. Dan's sky tour was great and his knowledge of the history and the sky made this a once in a lifetime experience. Recommend for anyone interested in astronomy or science history.

This place is amazing and the tour is wonderful. My wife and I were not expecting much before the tour, but we felt surprised and impressed by what we received. The tour guide provided us a very meaningful tour, including the description of the architecture details. There were many symbols embedded in the architecture details. The tour guide gave very interesting interpolation and explanation about how these symbols may be related to the founder and the functions of this historic observatory. The director Dan showed us how the amazing telescope operates in its usual working status. What impressed us the most is the enthusiasm of people who work in this observatory. We can feel they really love this place and this job. We are very grateful what they have done, not only maintaining this old facility, saving this site with historic meaning, but also educating and exciting people who have ever visited this observatory.

We drove to Lake Geneva and discovered this gem on our way there. Luckily we made it in time for the noon tour. We had two tour guides, one for the architecture and another for the telescope. Both were outstanding. The architecture discussion was fascinating and amusing as the architect has memorialized several important individuals associated with Yerkes in humorous depictions. The telescope itself is a wonder. We are definitely heading back for a private viewing. The gift shop is lovely and we bought a few souvenirs.

While I was familiar with the history of the telescope, I had no idea that the building's architecture was as fascinating as it is! The docent was very knowledgeable and willing to answer whatever questions we had. If you like architecture and/or astronomical history, you need to visit this place!

If you are in the Geneva Lake area, you must get a tour of the Yerkes Observatory. The university of Chicago owns this beautiful, early 1900s Romanesque building. Gorgeous.

We had a wonderful experience at the special 40'' telescope tour! Dan our astronomer guide gave us plenty of viewing time and taught us very interesting facts about Saturn, the moon, binary stars and globular clusters. It was also great getting to see the beautiful Observatory too. Be sure when you go to be very respectful of other guests and the guide by being good listeners and following directions.

Excellent-what an experience-difficult to grasp the enormity and complexity of our universe. Standing where Hubble, Einstein and Sagan studied is truly humbling. There simply must be other life forms out there!

Took a group for a viewing/tour and although the weather didn't cooperate for using the telescope, the tour itself was wonderful. Dan Koehler was a fantastic tour guide, telling the story of this amazing and beautiful building and the awesome instruments it houses. I cannot recommend the experience highly enough.

One of the best observatories I've been to. They have tours and the will move the big telescope, the dome and the floor so you can see how it works. So much fun! The speakers are awesome and have so much knowledge. They have a gift store and you can buy some astronaut ice cream as well. They have a book that talks about the best locations and details for the 21st August eclipse that has 2 eclipse shades gift inside!
