It is a place you need to see while you visit Washington. It is a historic building with great atmosphere. Unfortunately the fence around doesn't allow to get closer. It is also recommendable to take some pictures in the evening. It is a beautiful and you should not miss it

Good place to roam around, the architecture is so beautiful. The colour which strikes our eyes, blue, white and green wherever we see! (October, 2019) I love this place and the weather was so goooood too.

It's strange. You see this place all the time in movies and on tv, but when you see it in person you're like "wow this place really does exist"

The public is not allowed to enter the Capitol by way of the doors to the building, but are herded through an underground "Visitors' Center" complete with a required film veiwing. Our guide (also required), Ms Jackson, was fully knowledgeable and very pleasant, however, the entire experience was extremely regimented with repeated security screenings, bag searches, full-body x-rays, pat-downs and restrictions. Really over the top compared to what it used to be. Visitors observing the Senate or House from the Galleries (which requires tracking down the office of your Congressional representative in some other building to get an admission slip) are not permitted to wear a hat except for religious purposes or to take notes. A booklet with 16 pages of printed text on The United States Senate is handed out as part of the process of entering the Galleries, but it's against the rules to read there. Hundreds of people in uniforms are milling around politely enforcing rules and directing which side of an empty hallway to walk on.

Great visit! A guided tour was included and our guide was very knowledgeable with historical facts I never knew of. After the tour we walked the tunnel to the library of Congress which has a very nice museum. Thomas Jefferson's collection of books was impressive as well as WWI memorabilia etc.

I went with a group of 18 people. We had a great tour guide. There was so much to look at, I would like to go back to study the paintings and statues more. The gift shop had some unique items. I got a refrigerator magnet, as usual. I also got a nice pair of earrings.

Let's just say amazing. Our great people who elect those to go forward to represent not all our interests but the American people. Through greatness that need's is a house for those who need to bring forth the greatness of our nation to pass law's etc, and special intranets for the American people. How great we have it with what we have. Do not waste your time on the public tour. It's awful. Instead, contact your congressman or senators and ask for a private evening tour. Most will say no, but you could get lucky. At night, it's quiet and congressmen can take you into rooms that others don't know about.

Visiting the U.S. Capitol is an experience that should not be passed up. There's incredible views, picture taking opportunities, and much history to learn. Unfortunately, our tour guide was quite rude but it didn't get in the way of having a good time. Even had the chance to walk right by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. That's certainly not something that happens every day!

Ok now, my family went to DC for a vacation. We had everything planned out and for the most part, went well and was very fun. I believe it was the second day we were going to the capitol. We had a tour scheduled with other people in my state. Long story short, we waited a couple hours for a tour. Things were mixed up BADLY. Eventually, things were worked out, and the tour was interesting. I wouldn't say it was surely worth it, but definitely fun. D.C. Is a great place for a vacation, to investigate out nation's history and have loads of fun.

While I don't always like or agree with the policies that come out of this building, it is magical and impressive. What a piece of art. The history is just amazing. Being able to stand there was such an honor and really makes me proud to be an American. I cannot wait to visit again some day with my family.

If I were building my own legislative branch building to house the upper and lower houses of the most powerful nation on earth, I couldn't have done a better job myself!

Seriously, this - along with the White House and the U.S. Supreme Court building, are impressive in the truest sense.

Here, the richness of our legislative history is seen from every state and epoch since our beginning.

I will load photos once I return to a computer - iPhone 6+ is great but this deserved more.

You're only cheating yourself if you don't visit.

This was my second visit to Washington, DC and i was lucky enough that the restoration of the US Capitol was done after more than 3 years of work! Very beautiful building. On my first visiting, I did the tour inside the US Capitol, it was very informative and interesting. Totally recommended.

A Brief History of United States packed into a very informative 45 minute tour of the Capitol. Starts off with a movie before the tour begins. The tour guides are extremely thorough and know pretty much everything there is to know about every statue and painting.

The Library of Congress is adjacent to the Capitol and connected by an underground passage. Best to visit it after the tour.

It was greatly informative! I've only learned about the US from my textbooks, but the tours really bring it to another level! I'm not a citizen and I don't stay there so unfortunately I can't contact any Rep. or anything, so I guess that was the only downside. Wait I think that's not the only one. There was just too many people. I went on Black Friday, but still the crowds were ridiculous. The tour was too rushed, and we missed some pretty awesome statues and paintings. That's my only complaint. Although, if you do ask me, I'll definitely come back to visit again. Once is never enough! :)

Do yourself a favor and do some footwork before coming here. Contact your representative in Congress for a staff tour. I feel like it was much more informative and intimate than those large group tours, plus IT'S FREE.

An added bonus: if your Rep is in a leadership role, you get to see some nifty stuff like their extra offices. Steve Scalise is the Majority Whip, so we got to see the Lincoln Room (complete with an escape tunnel!).

One thing though: if you're on a private tour, make sure you get pictures of the Rotunda and Statuary Hall BEFORE you go back downstairs to the House/Senate galleries. We missed out on taking photos of one of our state's statues and didn't want to go through the trouble of getting on a tour group to do it.

After that, go spend the day watching the House and/or Senate in action. If you're lucky, they'll all be there voting on a measure. Got to watch John McCain speak, and was 30-odd feet away from Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, so it was a really great experience.
