Went for lunch today. Food was slow to come out to the table; we had to get our waiter's attention to get the check. The restaurant was not crowded. Food was delicious and atmosphere was wonderful (especially decorated for Christmas). We stopped in the gift shop and had fun looking around. Wonderful atmosphere and good food. Fun to see it for the first time.

When you come in, you step into the American History, greeted by your host and attentive to your needs. Great Irish Coffee, and great Seafood Platter. The owner or manager, made sure we were enjoying the atmosphere and the food. She was very personable. Can't wait to come back.

My twin sister and I went to Union for my birthday lunch in Boston and we had an incredible meal! We shared oysters, clam chowder, and shrimp cocktail. The guys behind the bar told us all about the history of the building and gave us a piece of Boston cream pie (with candles!) for our birthday. Great dining experience!

I had a fabulous experience with Chef Anton and Maureen at the Union Oyster House! I came in yesterday to get some gifts and see if I could get one of the chefs and owner to sign a book. Unfortunately, the owner wasn't there at the time, but would be there today. When I came in today and saw Maureen, who had helped me yesterday, she introduced me to Chef Anton who happily signed my book and have me a great tour including a picture with a 14 lbs lobster! Kudos to the great staff at Union Oyster House for giving me a great experience!

We were recommended this spot by a few locals for it's history and it's food. Was not disappointed in our choice to go. The clam chowder is good. The beer selection was pretty good. The service was excellent was knowledgeable of the building and history. Inside was some neat decor with many of the cities historic places.

We wanted a place with historic significance and that is what Union Oyster House provides. The clam chowder was hot and delicious. The lobster roll fantastic. We sat next to the Kennedy booth. Great food great service and a nice gift shop.

You haven't been to Boston until you've dined at the Union Oyster House. 194 years of history coupled with great New England seafood and good service. Excellent clam chowder. The lobster, fish and shellfish are fresh and prepared perfectly. Union Oyster House is a must-have do when in Boston.

Good food, great service and accommodation for a large party of 12. We chose Union because of the history but were aware of some of the tourist trap reviews. Staff was very pleasant and patient with children in the group. Portions were good size and oysters were excellent. Not the cheapest place in North Boston but we were not surprised either since prices were available online. Lots of great places to eat in Boston and for the history, Union is worth the price.

I love coming to the Union Oyster House when I visit Boston for work. The staff there are extremely friendly and even let us sit at the Kennedy Booth even though we didn't reserve it.
The food is awesome. We were served by Bobbi who is amazing. She was very interactive and always made sure we were stocked on drinks and food!

Great time at the U / oyster shucking bar. The wait for a table was 30 min so we hopped up to seats at the bar and got everything we needed. It's a limited menu but if you are there for the oysters/clams, that's the place to sit. They shuck them right there. Also has a few taps a wine options (overheard him say he can bring over any drink from the full cocktail bar if you want something specific). Clam chowder was mighty tasty. Oysters were briny & fresh. They had two type is clams - small & very large (forgot the name) - both were shucked fresh & tasty. Overall, a great experience. Recommend popping by the bar to chat with the friendly guys working there & having some fresh oysters.

I love Boston, and one of my first stops every time I am here is the Union Oyster house. The ambiance, the staff, and the food is fantastic and not too expensive. I come here primarily for the fresh oysters, which a divine, but the entire menu is very good. Highly recommended!

Ever been somewhere and instantly regretted it after the first bite? Union Oyster House is a tourist trap and it's clear to me that it trades off its name. Go for a drink so you can see and experience it, but I wouldn't recommend parting with your money for the food, instead go elsewhere to any number of fine Boston restaurants.
I regret that we spent one of our precious few evenings here, I would have far more enjoyed a takeaway pizza and saved $60 in the process, or taken my money to The North End where prior nights were far more memorable.
The fish we had didn't seem as fresh or clean as other restaurants we had been to in Boston. The sauces were tasteless, needed seasoning and did nothing to hide the poor taste (the fish didn't even seem sea fresh to me, perhaps it was all left over from the weekend?). The fries were 'warm'. The highlight was the corn bread, which they probably buy in from a different supplier, followed by the door to exit.

Hands down best Clam Chowder I have ever tasted. Hands down best fish and chips I have ever tasted. Each dish tasted so fresh, flavorful, and mindfully prepared. Not to mention, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was perfect for what I was expecting as a first-time visitor to Boston. Union Oyster House was the first restaurant I ate at in Boston and I am so glad that it was. Union Oyster House is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a historically significant, unique, memorable, and delicious dining experience.

Visited Union during dinner after being sold on the novelty of dining at "America's Oldest Restaurant."
Truth be told, I'd advise against dining here. The fresh Oyster bar would have been a good stop-n'-go for a few shucked and a beer before heading off to dinner. The nondescript interior was a tad bit gimmicky, almost tacky. If it's to uphold history so be it.
The food was underwhelming compared to meals enjoyed throughout our trip. The seafood basket (forget what it's called) was far too oily and didn't have much substance. Mussels and chowder were decent at best.
It wasn't all bad. An honourable mention to staff and management, who were sensational.
If you're insistent on stopping by for a meal. Wait for a few seats by the Oyster bar then make your way somewhere else.response / report this review -

"Whenever we are in Boston, we always make a stop at the Union Oyster House - consistently good food and atmosphere. Last night we were lucky to snag a couple of seats at the Oyster Bar, our bartenders were so nice, friendly, knew a lot about oysters and Boston, they were cracking everybody up at the bar, which really made it fun. My husband had the beer that Sam Adams makes exclusively for their restaurant - he loved it! After a couple of drinks we were seated up stairs, right near the famous JFK booth. The restaurant is full of history like that, which I love, and their upstairs dining room is so cozy, so New England. Our waitress, Sarah, was very friendly, nice. We both got clam chowder, creamy and smooth, great flavor, just thick enough. I had the lobster ravioli for dinner, huge portion, but so good that I still managed to finish it all. My husband got the lobster scampi, which was also a good size, with plenty of lobster meat - and fresh, he loved it. If you happen to be in Boston, be sure to stop in to the Union Oyster House for some fresh seafood and amazing history - always a great experience!"
