The hike to the cave it is challenging if you aren't someone who walks much. We were lucky to have a 2 and 1 Tour, the cave is amazing and the staff will give you some cool inside. I will recommend to mom and dad and kids day tour and also for a fun Saturday morning hike date. Was this Helpful?

Highly decorated cave on par with the best caves in the United States. Open to the public only through led tours. It's a moderately short (under a mile) but very steep hike to cave entrance. If you aren't flexible on tour time make sure to get tickets in advance, especially on busy weekends.

This is a great spot. Although the hike up to the caves is not long, it is steep. The caves are cold even in the hottest time of the summer, so bringing a jacket is nice. Also, don’t forget to buy a ticket for the cave before you hike up or else you’ll be very sad when they won’t let you in.

Literally and figuratively a cool trip. The cave is damp and cool year round. Our tour guide was fantastic and humorous. The hike from the base to the cave entrance is a strenuous climb and should be serious considered for the more frail. It is both steep and winds along the side of a cliff. It does not appear unsafe, but if you don't like heights you may not enjoy. We went as a work team and had a ball, and would recommend it.

The cave is well worth the hike up the mountain. Please note that the hike is not that long (maybe 3 miles round trip?) but there's a lot of elevation involved. My group had no issue getting to the top on time (we actually joined the prior group as we got there in 1/2 the time allotted) but it is a strenuous climb, especially to a Texan who lives near sea level. You'll want to bring plenty of water and use the bathroom before you head up. The caves are cold year round so you might want a hoodie or similar too.

This is a great place to take the family. I took my seven year old and she had no problems getting to the top. It is 1.5 miles to get to the top. It really only takes 45 minutes. It has some amazing views going up to the top. Keep moving when walking he striped lines in the pavement. The cave tour was wonderful. It wasn’t very long at all and not at all that cold either!

Not a hike if you have a fear of heights! Beautiful none the less, the views are incredible and the cave tour is fantastic, especially with Ranger Katherine as the guide! She has great humor and also very knowledgeable!
Be sure to make reservations as the tours are limited in number of bodies, go early in the morning because of the heat and BE SURE TO TAKE A JACKET!

The cave is pretty neat. Definitely worth the hike, but it's an intense hike. Only a mile, but all uphillsteep. Bring water, but I recommend not a big bag or anything bulky if you go in the cave. There are some tight spots. They take very good care of the cave and the tour guides are very knowledgeable.

I and many other hikers hike this trail for exercise!
Is a wide 1.5 mile up paved trail,1100 feet to cave entrance. Not required to take a cave tour, many hike up and hike down. It has Rangers on the trail and all. Is safe place to hike if a lone hiker.
Summer has just begun so my time to hike up is 45 min. Last summer by end of summer my time was down to 35 min to go up.
The cave is about 45 degrees inside,besides its beauty, is a great place to cool off.

The hike is about 2 miles, and it can get kinda steep. Also be aware of falling rocks and look out for rattlesnakes! I fortunately encountered neither on my visit.
The cave tour at the top is absolutely worth it. Make sure you get your tickets at the visitor center. They don't sell them at the top!

Amazing views, staff, and tour. The two Park Rangers that I came in contact with were extremely nice people. One, I wish I would've gotten her name, gave me water at the top of the cave, she was so sweet. The other was our tour guide, he was amazing. I'm very happy and grateful this beautiful place has such wonderful people taking care of it.

You can hike up to the cave entrance anytime (trail is steep so be careful), and then going into the cave requires a reservation. We went this last time and has reservations but unfortunately couldn't take our daughter all the way through One of the rangers was extremely nice and offered to take us in a little ways at least, then turn around and go back out with us. Fun experience, and overall you'll spend a little over an hour inside the cave if you choose to go that route.

I realize some people have no respect for the great outdoors.. but I hated hearing, repeatedly, "touching a rock is a federal offense"
Other than that, the hike is strenuous, but worth it. Going in the early morning beats the heat. No charge to walk the trail but you need tickets to tour the cave. Our ranger was knowledgeable and she really seemed to like questions. Our trip through the cave was unhurried and at our pace.response / report this review
