One of the best beer selections on tap of anywhere I've been, and at good prices to boot (good local taps for $4/pint? Yes please!). Add an order of cheese curds with smoked paprika dip and a burger (or salad with salmon if you want balance) and you have an awesome meal.

Fun bar atmosphere with quality old fashions. Rye whiskey old fashioned was very well made and delicious. The onion straws tasted excellent but were very greasy. The chicken sandwich my wife had was delicious. I have the prime rib sandwich and it had a layer of Grease under the bun which made it difficult to finish. I really I mixed experience all in all. I think with different menu items it could have been a drastically different eating experience but what we had was definitely just okay. The meal ended up being so heavy that neither one of us felt good for the rest of the evening.

I visited with friends on a mid-week night. The place was fairly busy but the wait was only about 20 minutes. The crowd was lively but politely maneuvered around the folks waiting around the bar. The service was decent and time from seat to eat was reasonable.

The fried cheese curd was hot and tasty though I would have liked a much spicier sauce with them. I had an artisanal cheese plate with a really delicious selection of local cheeses. A couple of our group got the mac and cheese and didn't care for it. The fish sandwich that my friend got looked fabulous and he really liked it. A great beer selection and smooth bourbon added to the good experience.

While staying here for a gaming convention we have been here twice for breakfast. A fantastic place. Very friendly staff and great menu. The pancakes are amazing as is the meat scrambler. In one of the pics is a sour cream doughnut and yes it's as good as it sounds. For two with 20% tip it's been $30 both times and we have left absolutely stuffed. Great place just GO THERE.

This was a delightful find. The grilled cheese and tomato soup hit the spot on a chilly fall day. Great beer selection. Very reasonable prices considering the quality of the food & beverage. Good service. Definitely worth the trip downtown.

Boasts great selection of local craft brewery beers on tap & in bottles. Farm to table ingredients in chef made soups and salads make for a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience for a fair price. Lots of very tasty burgers, brats, etc. This is a destination restaurant for my husband and I whenever we are driving through Wisconsin en route to Chicago from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

This was probably my favorite restaurant on Capital Square. Both times we called ahead to make a reservation, they also offer first come first serve seating at the bar. Average wait time for a table was 30min. The wait time for food is minimal. Service is friendly once seated. Food is fresh! I was recommended their Old Fashioned Drink and their Fried Cheese Curds, neither disappointed. If you go to the Capital please check out The Old Fashioned, it's a good vibe of old mixed with new; their food and drinks are definitely something you don't want to miss.

Great atmosphere. Good prices. One of the best burgers in Madison. I'm not a mixer guy but they have a great beer list with lots of local brews available.

Reasonably priced food. Old fashioned cocktails are a must try. They don't accept reservations, and usually in dinner time the wait is at least 30 min. The service is quite quick and the food is great for the price. One of the iconic places in Madison's Capitol Square.

Great beer and food and service! I had a server named grace and she was fantastic! Really made the experience worthwhile. Although I wish the old fashioned wouldn't use numbers on their menu, like the number one sandwich. It's confusing.

Great food at a good price!

I don't usually write reviews for restaurants, but the experience I've had at The Old Fashioned is one of the most outstanding restaurants I've eaten at. My wife and I were visiting Madison for two days, and after an extraordinary meal, we had to come the second day, too! The staff is friendly, and they have a lot of seating inside the restaurant (although that's not to say they never run out during the dinner rush). The food that was cooked for us was beautiful; you could tell that the chefs paid attention to the details. The price is also quite affordable, considering the restaurant is right next to the city capital building. Two burgers, a cheese platter with three cheeses, fried cheese curds, and two drinks cost a bit short of $40. A must-eat if you're visiting Madison.

Amazing food for a great price! They had a great location near the capital building and State St with a great atmosphere. I left feeling full and satisfied for less than $10. If you're in Madison looking for something you can't get anywhere else, The Old Fashioned is you're place to go.

Great Food! Love their spicy burger. And they are understanding and responsive to Gluten and Dairy Allergies.
In Madison for the winter? Try to grab one of their specialty Cherry Bounce's before its off the shelf. The Old Fashioned gets Wisconsin cherries and soaks them in buckets with brandy, bourbon and vodka for half the year. In the winter - they open it back up again and its magic!

The food here used to be very good, not anymore. My girlfriend had the spicy burger, I had the prime rib sandwich. Both were very bland and just not any good.

The service was great and the brandy slush was fantastic - only reason why I'm not giving it 1 star.

We were recommended here from a local. It was a good experience overall. The service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere is nice, but seems to always be loud (went twice). The food was unique, but not as flavorful as expected. Overall a good experience though.
