I was in a one bedroom suite. The contemporary night starts leave all your private bedside items exposed. There is a bench for dressing. Only after I was packing to leaves did I realize the top could be lifted for storage, but not like having a dresser for organizing your clothing which is in the living room . The shower is a tropical rainfall as well as a handheld spray. Unfortunately, the door size opening to the shower does not allow the shower area to really warm up line an enclosed or curtained shower, so when the water goes off, you dry off in a cold shower stall. While this looks very modern and there is great water pressure (and lots of hot water ), I was not a big fan. The staff at the concierge, front desk, room maintenance, telephone triage, front door were exemplary. Definitely worth a return.

I really enjoy my time here. Beautiful location for the price. Super friendly staff and great food. They have a Customer Service Ipad for the rooms. You can order everything from ice to sheets to towels and food with a swipe of a finger. They have successfully used technology to provide better customer care. Love it! Thank you so much!

We stayed after Thanksgiving because we had a great experience at this hotel previously. The room was a fantastic deal and the service and amenities provided are amazing. Everyone here goes the extra mile to make sure each guest is taken care of.

I had the pleasure of staying two nights at The James while attending a work event. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was updated and the shower had great pressure and temperature. A co-worker and I enjoyed happy hour one evening. I had a delicious burger with pepper fries. The bartender was very attentive. I used their valet parking for two nights. The location of the hotel is great! We walked to a nearby piano bar and a fabulous Mexican restaurant. My husband met up with me one evening and simply walked from Ogilvie station. I recommend staying at The James Chicago.

Stayed here towards the end of August and had them store my luggage including a little bag that had a bottle of unopened wine in that I put in it right before handing my bags to them.
When I picked up my bags an employee goes look like your bag is leaking and I'm not sure why.
I open up my little bag and the whole bottom of the bottle is broken off in half. All of my bags contents including an iPad and notebooks for a convention happening the next day is soaked. Inside of my suitcase many of my clothes were soaked as this bag was put on top of my big bag and it leaked through. I am assuming they put my small bag on top of my other and it got knocked over and they put it up thinking it was fine.
The employees and manager on site said unfortunately there was nothing they can do and I had a friend ask one of the cleaners to at least spray out my work small bag. I understand no one wants to admit they dropped the bag but no sorry or any compensation at all for the damages? Especially when the rest of our stay was lovely, amazing rooms and we had some good suggestions and bookings from the concierge.response / report this review -

I thought the rooms were nice. The service was also very good. We hosted a Sunday morning brunch and the food was delicious but they didn't replace the drinks often enough

We stayed here for our 10 year wedding anniversary. They surprised us us with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. It was so so sweet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are modern, but they can use some updating. The carpet and the chairs looked a bit worn out. Though overall we had a wonderful experience.

Location was prime. Rooms were clean and modern, just enough for an overnight stay. The 'lil James' service is awesome if traveling with a little one. The bed is so comfy! From concierge to valet service, A++++. Definitely coming back during my next visit.

Very friendly staff at check in, room was impeccable. Super comfortable bed. Random highlight: super soft bath robes. The only downside was a good bit of noise overnight, which I think is expected in any large city. Otherwise, wonderful staywould stay again.

Newly renovated lobby! Great workspace for guests. New modern furnishings & decor. Technology-friendly. Convenient location nearby many companies, shopping, restaurants, tourist activities, etc. The in-house restaurant and bar has a cozy, and hip atmosphere.

I loved this place as soon as I arrived. Staff at reception were friendly and welcoming, and the room was comfortable and very spacious. The large bed was especially comfortable - once I'd sat down I didn't want to leave it! A well stocked mini bar, great bathroom facilities (I love proper baths and don't think you see enough of these in hotels) and plenty of choice for cable TV channels made it an altogether fabulous experience. My only slight qualm is that the wifi was a little intermittent throughout the stay, but this was just a minor thing.

Nice hotel with a nice fitness center in the basement. Lobby was under construction while I was there, so it should be really nice in a few months. The rooms are overall nice and stylishly furnished. Those who appreciate that will probably like it. For my business travel need it wasn't as nice as a business hotel. The sink is cool looking, but at 1" deep not very functional. Also, there are no chairs in the room, just a booth-style seat with a table next to it. Not great for working on a laptop. Still, a nice enough hotel to warrant 3.5-4 stars for me.

The staff at the James was fantastic. They had great recommendations for places to eat and what to do in Chicago day or night. Rue location was fantastic being so close to many of the big attractions around the magnificent mile and with a Trader Joe's literally across the street it was a piece of cake to grab snacks and drinks for the room. Personally this is the third time I've been to Chicago and the staff at the James are bar none the friendliest.

I've stayed several times now, and this hotel provides some of the best service I have ever had. Every person is so helpful and nice, and will do anything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The food is great, and the rooms are comfortable and nice. Also had conferences here and it is the perfect place to host. Great place to stay, if not just for how great the staff is! Erin was amazing to work with and provided the best experiences possible.
