I got a wonderful fish sandwich and a great beer that I only find in specialty stores. Its a neat pub atmosphere on one side and on the other it feels like a family restaurant. Good, prompt service made the experience even better. I can't recommend this place highly enough if you want northern british isles cuisine!
Tried this place out for the first time the other week. AMAZING! You just need to go for yourself to see why. We stepped in and it didn't even feel like we were in Louisville anymore. The atmosphere was incredible, food delicious, and great drink choices. The owner even came over and was incredibly hospitable. It is now one of my favorite restaurants in Louisville and I cannot wait to go back!
The Irish Rover has a lovely rustic aesthetic, that is common to Frankfort Ave. The wait staff is polite, and tend to stay on their A-game. The kids menu has decent variety, and is low-priced compared to most restaurants. There is much delicious Irish food to choose from here, including probably the best fish and chips I've had in Louisville. A solid favorite for me is the Shepard's Pie: Beef stew, in a sourdough bread bowl. It's hearty and delicious.
A favorite for years. Always consistently great food, service and atmosphere. A must, anytime friends or family come to visit. Outstanding whiskey selection, as well. Do yourself a favor and give The Irish Rover a try. You'll be glad that you did.
Great place. Friendly staff and awesome food choices. Fish and chips are phenomenal. Definitely coming back. Sad it took me so long to check it out.
Have no idea if the food is good. After sitting at the bar for 10 minutes and not even getting an acknowledgment for the bartender I left. Too many options to deal with poor service. Not sure how this place has decent reviews based on my experience.
Walking into The Irish Rover is like walking into a pub in Ireland. From the historic building that once housed a saloon. decor, bar and the hospitality of the staff, you are welcomed with irish accents. The menu is very authentic and the Rover sets itself above all other self proclaimed Irish restaurants in Louisville.
Good atmosphere decent food. Our bartender was slow, rude and constantly on his phone. This was the day shift so it might get better with the A team at night.
I love this place.
They got my order wrong and fixed it instantly. No huffy or rudeness.
They are so polite and awesome.
It's Kentucky best kept secret.
Their food is beyond delicious. Cooked to perfection and always just amazing
You have try the scotch eggs. And you have try the Irish blt.
Their wine and beer menu is great along with their whiskey, scotch, and other liquors.
The Rover used to be a family favorite when I was growing up. The owner is from County Clare in the Republic of Ireland and he wanted to create as authentic of an Irish experience for Louisvillians as he could, which really shows in the menu and in the decor. Truthfully, I'm pretty biased toward this restaurant due to my love of Ireland and the sentimental memories that I have of this place, but I strive to be as objective as I can in my reviews.
On that note, the service here likely won't blow your mind. While the owner managed to capture a great many aspects of Irish culture, he can't force his workers to attain that fabled level of Irish hospitality. Don't get me wrong -- the servers are very nice and my order has always been accurate, but they usually seem too busy to engage in conversation or beyond polite formality. That being said, I would be happy to eat here every single week.
I highly recommend the cottage pie, the fish and chips, the seafood pie, and the lamb stuffed cabbage. And don't forget to wash it down with a good pint of something nice.
Love a pub. This one is fine. Food was not bad, but it wasn't great either. If you do fish & chips in an Irish pub, do it really great. Cod was good but very greasy. It was served with 9 steak fries. My son did love the cottage pie. Service was friendly.
Totally Satisfying Dining Experience
Authentic Irish food at more than reasonable prices. Wait staff are friendly and appropriately attentive. The venue has the feel of an Irish pub and Michael Reidy, the proprietor, makes it all the more warm and inviting. One of my favorite places for a guys' night out.
The Irish Rover is always my stop when visiting Louisville. They offer Irish "pub grub" and brews, some of it familiar, such as fish and chips or a good salad, along with a few specialties like Scotch eggs and the Lamburger. The building itself looks like something transplanted out of Ireland, just as comfortable and welcoming as the staff are. I enjoy coming back here every time.
Love this place. Solid pub style and irish food for very reasonable prices. Good beer selection. I enjoy the building itself, it has a lot of history.
Note: the majority of the low star reviews were from one unfortunate night (which I was present, but not involved with) involving two groups of people with different views.
Excellent food and drinks! We got the hot apple cider, hot rum cider, and hot Irish coffee and would recommend any of them. The food was definitely the best part and we ordered scotch egg, cottage pie, and the fish and chips. The Irish Rover was busy, but every employee did everything possible to make our experience enjoyable; definitely worth any wait quoted. When we are back in Louisville, we will definitely be stopping.
