While this has been a favorite place for great food and drinks for a number of years, the service has really declined. It has never been a place I could recommend to anyone who can't tolerate smoke. Even though they have an outdoor patio, they've never tried to create a haven for non-smoking guests.

The final straw and our final visit came when we had sat on the porch a couple weeks ago. We sat outside as we usually do. The patio was empty, though they had just enclosed part of it for the winter. We braved sitting in the enclosure because it was cold and drizzly, and we were the only guests. Sure enough, no sooner had we finally gotten a waitress's attention and put in an order did another pair of guests come in, one of whom was looking for an ashtray to start smoking.

We moved ourselves out of the enclosure to one of the open tables into the cold and wet, after asking our waitress if we could sit at one of the tables under the building overhang where we would at least be dry, and being told that "no" we would have to sit out in the open because the sheltered area was completely cut off by the plastic walls of the enclosure. So, out we went. We got one of the table umbrellas open and had asked for something to dry the seats off with from another employee, when the waitress came out to say she had spoken to the manager and they would not be serving us out there. It was too rainy and cold.

Mind you, I didn't really disagree but it was also too smoky either inside the bar or the enclosure for someone with smoke allergen - triggered asthma. Which were the only options offered to remedy the situation. We took Option C: Leave with no plans to return.

It's really a shame, but unfortunately the last few visits had seen our formerly fun, engaged and caring servers replaced with bored - looking, roll-eyed youngsters who seemed really annoyed to have customers.

Should've seen the writing on the wall.

My friend and I came here as foodies following the diners, drive Ins and dives trail and I will have to disagree with Guy Fieri. The service was beyond bad. I think the waitress saw 2 females and assumed there was no tip in it for her and gave up. The food was at a best mediocre. I had the southern slam and my friend had the beef stroganoff. Both were luke warm and I am sure the burger was not a fresh made patty. The mac and cheese was the best thing we tasted and it wasn't anything to write home about. Sorry that we choose this as our last meal in Atlanta.

You can always track down on Friday night "Metal music" oceans of tattoos, friendly unassuming people and excellent bartenders at The Highlander". There is smoking there but an eccellent air system. It's a fun place.

So tonight we ordered 2 cups of coffee but they were too full so we asked for an extra cup to pour out the excess. Well the empty cup they brought had roach in it. When we got the servers attention and she saw the roach, she took the napkin with the dead roach and the empty cup and left. Nothing else. Not an apology, replacement, offer to comp anything.nothing. When I approached someone, he basically told me that it couldn't have come from the cup. Seriously, horrible reaction to a customer's experience. And the servers never came back to the table.

The menu was enticing, but the experience wasn't as amazing as expected. Ghost pepper wings were not that spicy at all. Server, Amy was 4/10 customer service. Not very sincere or even slightly happy. Atmosphere is very dive bar, and that's pretty cool, but I didn't think it was worth my visit. If you're looking for great quality, try somewhere else.

My friends and I are regular at Atlanta bars and typically love the service we receive. We went here for the first time and the bartender (refraining from specifying who) lacked any kind of "good service". Didn't say a word to us, not even hello. We're all in the industry so we know how it works so it felt completely uncomfortable. Didn't even get a thank you from him on our way out after we tipped him over 20% followed by our thank you to him. But hey, the beer we finally got was good and the mozzarella sticks were quite yummy.

It had a really cool feel and look to the place. The food was pretty good and the staff was really nice. Missing a star though because even though there's no smoking, it smelled a little weird.

A regular stomping ground of mine from years ago, though I don't get here often enough these days. Once the Highlander was the definition of a rocker dive bar, and its roots are still showing a bit (in a good way). Great food regardless of what some critics say and respectable drinks unless you demand froufrou and cork-sniffing. ;-)

Still a great venue for people watching. Watch your manners though, Highlander isn't so mellowed that they won't walk you out (on your feet optional) if you insist on being a jerk.
