I tried to volunteer here. I asked the volunteer services manager if there were other times other than Thursdays to attend a welcome session. The services manager Erik stated there wasn't and that their "agency may not be the best for me". I thought this was rude and unwelcoming. Based on this experience and having not set foot through the door yet, I would never recommend anyone to volunteer here based on this persons demeanor and unfriendliness. It should be my decision to decide if this place is best for me, not the managers. I'm glad I received this experience, though, right away instead of wasting time through the enrollment process and being disappointed later.

Some things the previous reviewer may be somewhat true ,things Do breakdown with heavy use but they get fixed, the city if Milwaukee building inspector evidently seems to feel it is structurally sound .
The AODA clinic may well have saved my life. The counselors are professional and do care.
When I had a heart attack there and needed a pump attached to my heart before my transplant the GH stood by me with a place to stay.
I try today to donate what I can and support their mission.
I am sorry you didn't get the kind of help you required from a free facility that is trying under funding cuts for the past several years.
It is too bad that you chose not to man up and reveal you name.

The Guest of Milwaukee used to be a place for a man to heal and get back on his feet. The current director and the majority of new staff seem to feel this is no longer a service they should provide. Several staff members in key positions from case management and head of residential services, all the way down to shelter staff are either not qualified or just dont care to hold their current positions. Men are being warehoused and services are not being offerd. complaints from residents are not being addressed or are being dismissed as insignificant. The building is falling apart, and is full of health code violations, fire code violations and in this writers opinion violations of basic human needs. For example there are ony 2 urinals for 100 men to use all the others are broken. There are only 2 showers for 100 men and it has been this way for more than 6 months. These examples are just the tip of the iceburg. There are 60 men on steel bunk beds with all there belongings on the second floor of a 100 year old bulding. It is just a matter of time before a colapse happens and people get hurt or die. Some one needs to take a close look at the entire operation before it gets to late and the facility is shut down. It is a shame that this has come to this in such a short time since the last director left, and even a bigger shame that the board of directors either does not know or care enough to hold the director and her staff accountable.
As a former resident from several years ago and more recent a volunteer at the G.H. it is unbelievable to see the decline, and even a bigger disgrace that the current staff does not care. The condition of the G.H. and the way current residents and volunteers are being treated needs to be addressed. I for one cant bring myself to volunteer there again and several others have expressed the same feeling. Get it right G.H. or you will find your doors closed and all the hard work of your predesesors down the drain.
