New-ish fisher here/ new boat owner. My boyfriend and I have lived in the area for a year now and have really enjoyed taking on the new hobby for fishing. It’s embarrassing enough to ask simple fishing questions to any expert, but for the most part people are kind enough to help. To our surprise, NOT HERE. We are big supporters of any and all mom and pops/ small businesses in our area. But every. single. time. we have gone to the fishin’ hole they act soooo bothered, so annoyed, and so inconvenienced. We are ones to not inconvenience anyone doing us a service, but when we chose to spend our money somewhere we don’t want to feel like we are bothering people. And we never feel welcomed or helped here. I feel more like everyone would be doing them a favor if just no one showed up every day. I’d like to say that i promise my feelings aren’t hurt, I’m just confused. We found a small fishing shop in port orange that is actually out of our way but will be taking our business there. I hate writing this kind of review but we’ve given our business to them so many times and we always walk out confused asking what we did to deserve that kind of attitude.

As a fishing community we are very fortunate to have a business like The Fishing Hole. Not only is it centrally located but is professionally staffed with friendly knowledgeable individuals who are will to educate and offer helpful advise. As a pure novice left with some solid advise. They have a wide variety of fishing gear available as well as competitively priced live bate. It’s important to support those who support the local community and economy!

I was and am still stunned at the way the shop owner treated me a few days ago. Born in Messina, Sicily, I was raised on Long Beach in Long Island, New York by parents who were very strict about obedience and respect!

I went in to the Fishin Hole looking for some line that would hold framed art weighing about 10 pounds to as much as 50 pounds. When I saw on the wall a large spool of blue filament made by Diamond Fishing products, I asked a woman working there what the strength of the line was and she in turn went to an old man in the back who came out and asked me, in a very cantankerous manner, "What are you using it for? I told him "To hang pictures!" He stated that it was tested to withstand up to 180 lbs. I asked what it would cost for 100 ft. He didn't answer my question but rudely yelled out "How many pictures are you going to hang?" I explained that I'm opening an art gallery. As he took the spool off the wall I again asked what the cost would be. He looked in a book on the counter and said $25.00. I had no problem since it was the color I wanted. I also bought a 25 pc pack of leader sleeves. After he rang me up and I left and looked at my receipt to see that it wasn't itemized, but just has a single entry of $29.60.

I went to my building and used two strands of the Diamond filament to hang my first picture--an original John James Audubon dated 1834. The filament blended beautifully against the blue wall and I was thrilled. I went to measure the distance of the track for my next picture and the Audubon came down-luckily, right into my hands! The Diamond Products filament that I was told would hold 180 lbs, didn't stand up to 30 pounds and with two separate strands at 18 inches apart! I've examined both lines at the point of breaks and found that the line is absolutely defective as it has more areas where the braiding is coming undone.

I took the picture and broken lines back to the store and was told that the line had held up to 200 pounds. I held up my picture and stated that what I had in my hands didn't even weigh 25 pounds. I was then asked about the leader packet. I explained that I didn't use them, but the owner told his partner that I did! I did not want a refund, nor did I intend to stand in the presence of ignorance and be called a liar. I just wanted to obtain the manufacturer name and batch number on the spool--which I did get and left.

I've contacted the company that distributed the line by email twice, but have no response. I called the number on their website and was received by a rude individual who didn't identify himself or the company he represented. I told him I will be documenting "EVERYTHING" through certified mail, photos, videos, etc.

Like most people, I've learned to accept errors, mistakes and, unfortunately, even bad merchandise as part of life. However, I don't give an inch to anyone who treats me with a bit less the respect I show them! So, as I have more than 37 years experience as a jeweler and dealing with customers, and, 17 years of legal research and having won 2 important state court appeals, I believe I'm more than qualified to give a few people some lessons in manners and respect.

A true copy of this review will be used as an exhibit in any forthcoming legal proceedings if warranted.

While I had mistaken the person identified by the owner who did not identify himself, but claims to be the owner in replying to my review, apologizes for the mannerisms of the "reel tech," but claims that I was told that the line I asked about was for fishing purposes only, but made the purchase anyway. I find the the reply to my review is entirely disingenuous and meant to deflect the truth in these matters. The response is just as repulsive and appalling as the way I was treated!

I called the store and spoke with Gene the owner. My call was to order a gift basket for a friend that is an avid fisherman. I simply explained my situation, especially since I live out of state and Gene and his wife put together a phenomenal gift basket and even volunteered to deliver it on the day of their anniversary!!! All I can say is WOW..what more could you ask for. Fantastic customer service and more than willing to help out an out of state person and purchase. Can't wait to drop in and say thank you in person.
