This place is a hidden gem. It has many different trails and overlooks to explore. It is also pet friendly! I have been here a few times and I think it gets better each time. I love going here to get a quick hike in or relax for the afternoon. It is also free which is a huge addition. The trails are clearly marked and fully cleared so there is no risk of getting lost. My favorite spot here is on a ridge looking over downtown Birmingham. If you go at the right time you can catch the sun setting behind the city.

Great trails for a good workout. The nature center is good and the staff is knowledgeable. I saw many families with children on the trails.

Off the beaten path and up the winding road a new adventure awaits. Multiple trails in variable distances and difficulty. The have picnic tables, nice clean restrooms and even a informational museum with attached conference room. Great nature reserve it worth the trip out ..

Really enjoyed a brief visit here. Several trails to choose from and as we had a short time frame it was nice to have a short circle trail to get into nature. Also liked the bird and reptile exhibits for a quick visit before we headed out.

awesome place! some of the hikes are hard for the kids and some of the trails are either not taken care of or are being cut through and are marked on the trail map. confusing sometimes. nice place to get a workout.

Ruffner has come leaps and bounds over the years. They are now an epicenter for community involvement. The place is clean. Staff is friendly. And it's a lovely hiking experience. Make sure you grab a map at the nature center because it's easy to get turned around on some of the trails. The overlook affords great views of the city.

My little family always enjoy spending time here. The hiking available is mostly moderate with a few of the trails offering some steep changes in incline. Some of the views are the best you'll find this close to Birmingham.

Will continue to spend time her and you should too!

Great place to come hiking and explore the outdoors. They have trails from novice to experienced. You can also find some of the old mining equipment laying around.

Awesome hiking with well marked trails. The quarry is awesome, although there are no climbing signs going into the quarry. A lot of the upper rocks are supported loosely by a shale rock shelf and doesn't seem stable while ascending. Locally owned Ed and supported with a low membership cost. Well worth the preservation of the land for a small donation. They also work with wildlife rehabilitation which is beyond excellent
