I always felt like family on my visits, my doctor Carla Stefanescu is very easy to communicate with and she absolutely make sure all questions and problems are solved. Kirkline Clinic is absolutely my best.

I was born w/ a heart problems so I've been going here all my life. My 1st surgery when I was 11 days old. Dr. Kirkland senior did my 1st open heart(Fontan) when I was 7 years old. My parents had been told I died. Obviously they got my heart to start working again. I had a swollen belly that made me look pregnant. I wasn't absorbing anything when I ate. For 13 years they had me on a no sodium diet, high calories, high protein & no fat. Before my transplant they put me on salt tablets! My heart transplant & valve replacement was done by Dr. Kirkland(the son). I had my heart valve replaced because it was torn almost off by a "doctor" during a right/leff heart Cath & biopsy 12 years after my transplant. I've had lots of surgeries including a pacemaker & gallbladder removed. My lungs have an ARD like appearance because less than an hour after my transplant the nurse pulled the respirator out, causing my lungs to fill w/ fluid & stiffened. I had to have a trac. I was in a medically induced coma of almost 3 months. I had to learn how to walk, talk, eat, dress myself & etc. The prednisone has caused osteoarthritis in every joint. My bones hurt. I'm only 36 years old but my body feels like it's 70. They put me in palliative care about six years ago. I've had every problem that you can think of with them. It's not just Palliative Care, it's the whole clinic. I got palliative care in trouble. They cost me over $200 cause they wouldn't listen to me on how the rx & insurance works. So they decided to kick me out of the ONLY out patient palliative care clinic in Alabama! The director of the clinic met w/ me. She told me she kicked someone out of Palliative Care because they questioned if a PA was done & done correctly(trust me they have a big problem submitting correct PAs). She laughed as she said, "so I kicked her out because she questioned me!" The patient advocate(Mr. Smith) is worthless! He won't answer nor call you back. The only way I talked to him was when I went to the clinic! He said since I talked to the director(Leslie Ledbetter) there was nothing he could do. My transplant coordinators are terrible too! She lied to me about the autoimmune disease test. She said, "the test showed nothing, so there such be NO reason u hurt the way u say u hurt." After ending up in the hospital I found out she lied. I've got Lupas! They finally changed my coordinator. But they put me with someone that doesn't care at all! She also lies! I went in for a right/left heart cath & biopsy. I told them the day before of all my concerns w/ the test. The last time not only did they mess my valve up again, they pushed a hole in my heart w/ one of the pacemaker wires. I also cried the whole time because they refuse to give me anything to help me w/ my back hurting. My back has major problems but can't do an MRI cause of the pacemaker. I was promised things would be different. But it wasn't. I got there & was told that they are going to do everything to make the doctors happy FIRST then if we can we will try to help u out. My coordinator came in & said they don't do biopsy on people that are 10 years post transplant. Supposedly my heart is in bad shape but only order a left Cath. I left because of the lies and she(the coordinator) told the director to make sure they didn't allow me back into palliative care. My disability also came up for review. Disability sent 2 request for the info but she never sent it. I'm being refused health care because "doctors" & other workers there got mad/feelings hurt! I see some complain about the long wait time. For the most part plan on being there all day. The appointments are suggestions. They see people on a first come, first served basis! This place has killed me, saved my life & made me wish for death! Me, My family & friends have a love/hate relationship with this place! Right now we all hate the way I'm being treated. Really if it wasn't for the BEST surgeons (both Dr. Kirklins) I wouldn't be alive. It's great & all but I hate living in misery!

On May 31, 2017, we arrived at the Kirklin Clinic for appointment at the ENT clinic at 10. As senior adults, we appreciated the valet parking. Easy for us to walk over the "bridge" and up to the 5th floor. We were warmly welcomed at ENT and the whole staff were exceptional. This was a very quick referral from doctor in Enterprise, AL. Decision was made to do pre-op requirements that day. Very professional doctors and staff. Everyone, I mean, everyone was continually washing their hands which made us feel they were serious about keeping clinic and patients safe from MRSA. Can't recall names of all those who went out of their way to see that my husband received the best care possible: from blood work to x-rays. Nurses/staff checked on me as I waited in each clinic. Staff worked overtime to ensure all the xrays needed for pre-op were taken that day. We live in Enterprise with a three hours drive each way. Not like we could come back tomorrow and finish up pre-op. It was way past 5 when pre-op requirements were completed. Went to pick up our vehicle at valet parking and they had it waiting right at the door. Now where else would you find people that caring!!! Of course, we are in the south and southern hospitality is another word for "Kirklin Clinic"! God bless this clinic; the doctors, nurses, staff and those who worked behind the scene to make sure patient care was of their utmost importance.
Now we wait for a call on Monday to tell us what time to be at UAB for the surgical procedure on Tuesday, June 6. I'm confident we will find the same caring staff in the surgical center that we found in Kirklin Clinic.response / report this review -

After my husband had his Kidney Transplant he had to go to the Kirkland Clinic in Birmingham for Labs several times a week. They do a very good job. My only issue is they lack in personality. But they did there jobs well.

If you have to go this is the place to go. We drove over 100 miles to get my wife's surgery done and it was worth every mile. Very nice and professional staff.
