  Delivery is not consistent. Missed 4 deliveries this week. Makes no sense to having paying customers go online for bonus coverage. Content lacking. Gets scooped regularly by Chicago Tribune on Rockford stories.

  I find the Rockford Registrar Star the antithesis of a newspapers like the Chicago Tribune & ThevWashington Post as the latter are excellent examples of true investigative journalism and are well written newspapers with more material written ( not ncludind advertisements) than the average person can find time to read than what that has a staff of writers,editors,researchers,as well as proofreaders & verifiers to ensure the articlrs are factual as well eliminate any typographical errors. It is well worth its price;I cannot say that about Rockford's poor newspaper & I would never allowvitcas a credible source in any assigned research paper as it is unacceptable, biased & poorly proofread for errors. If I had to grade an article written by a writer for the newspaper I am 90% certacertain it would not be free of errors which would lower it by a letter grade. I have taught at two universities and two community colleges. The Rockford Register Star is not worth half of the price it costs & some days it has so few pages I can read itvcover to cover in an hour. It is even worse than The SOUTHERN ILLINOISIAN which is sold in Carbondale. My mentor Dr. Michael Madigan was my mentor while teaching microbiology laboratories. He had told us to encourage students who had learned English as a second language to read one of the two latter newspaper's to help them learn how to write properly ( and pointing out the local newspaper was not one that would be useful as it was poorly writtten and wouldnt help their writing skills). He refused to let us excuse bad grammar or spelling despite the fact they had answered the questions in their laboratory manual correctly. He had high standards for his students. Each week they had to properly write out the laboratory exercise & answers that followed the exercise. They were essay questions that required research & critcal thinking skills to answer; not parrot something from the introduction portion of theblab manual. He even expected the answers to be written in perfectly structured English in complete sentences. We were told to lower the scores for any grammatical,spelling, spelling or any structural errors. At the time I felt he was a curmudgeon for having such demanding standards as it made my job more difficult ! I empathised for those foreign students who hadn't learned English as theitr first language. They were the ones who most often answered the questions correctly but had errors in their grammar and spelling and sentence structure. I brought up the fact that it wasn't fair to punish those who had difficulty writing out their answers in English due to the fact it wasn't their primary language. He firmly said if that was so tell them to read The Chicago Tribune or Washington Post but not the regional newspaper which like the Southern Illinoisian. After seeing how students in introductory biology classes answered essay questions on quizzes I couldn't believe how they had ever had gotten admitted into the local college as I was certain that itvwould be unacceptable to graduate a student incapable from been able to graduate from high school who wrote so poorly; it could be called semi- illetrate. I would not encourage them by reading the Rock Register Star. It is sad to see Rockford's newspaper reflects this city's standards perfectly.
