Great place to visit on a day trip. perfect for hiking, its long enough to explore but not waste you for the whole day. the lighthouse on the end is nice and you can take tours of it.

Absolutely gorgeous park, but be prepared to walk. It's about a half mile hike from the campsites to a flush toilet and water, or use the nearby pit toilets. The outstanding views along the bluffs and limited human interaction made it an amazing place to camp.

Beautiful island for camping or swimming. Only wish the ferry had more runs during peak season as it limits how much else you can see on a day trip to Washington Island. The lighthouse is my favorite out of all of them in Door County. Definitely worth the trip!

This place is gorgeous. You have to catch 2 ferries, to get there from the mainland. There were no crowds and virtually unspoiled island views! (There are no cars on the island.)We walked right up on a sleeping fawn nestled in the grass! It really is a very serene place to visit, or camp if you're into that. The volunteer tour guides at the lighthouse were very kind and knowledgeable.

This place is as beautiful as it is expensive to get to. We loved camping here. The remote sites are idyllic and pristine (with a fire pit and picnic table, though). There are also pit toilets within easy walking distance of the remote camp sites.
Really nice hiking with pretty laid back grades. Camping is 25$ a night and the ferry from Northport to Washington Island to Rock Island State Park cost 4 people and a car 120$. We ended up spending two nights (3 would have been perfect, in terms of walking all the trails and seeing all of the island) and 170$ to get there and camp, but it was well worth it.
The lighthouse is really cool and there are nice volunteer docents living there who give tours. The park rangers are really cool (props to Miriam!) and the Thordarson section of the island is jam-packed with Viking flava. I hesitate to use the word "magical" because it's really overused, but this place is pretty close. If you can afford it, I'd heartily recommend it.response / report this review -

My husband and I have stayed here for a week twice in 3 years. This summer us and our 5 kids are going (for a week) and we can't wait!! Each kid got a backpacking backpack for Christmas and can only bring what is needed. Packing light for 7 might be a little harder than for 2. 😱 I like the lettered sites but they understandably don't want allow kids on those. This is one of those historical places you want to give your money to. So beautiful. So nice.

Rock island is the best getaway spot in Wisconsin! There is no hustle and bustle, poor cell phone reception(some people may like this), no shopping available, just perfect to get away from it all.
What it does have is a restored lighthouse, beautiful architecture, friendly park staff, miles of hiking trails, beaches, unobscured night sky without the glow of the city, and fabulous views that are breathtaking. If that weren't enough the sunrises, and sunsets are unforgettable.
I have gone on an annul trip to the island for years and look forward to going there every chance i get.response / report this review
