Catch the train from Santa Cruz boardwalk and have a relaxing ride up to Roaring Camp Railroads. The Conductor was brilliant with stories and "suspect" factoids. The Camp was a great place to explore.

This is a fun experience and also peaceful because it involves nature. I also like the pathway to get to the train because it's beautiful scenery and good photo spots. The main thing I didn't approve of is the price. I feel like it's too expensive for the trip they take you on.

My son absolutely loved it (9 months old). We took the Christmas ride to the top of Bear mountain. There was a family of redwoods that formed a grove.standing amoungst them felt like we were standing in a holy cathedral. Truly a magical experience. Pro tip: get in line ASAP so you can get in a cart that doesn't have a net covering over it so you can look up and see the views rather then having to stare to the left or right.

The best classic steam train experience we could think of. The history and kids photos opportunity and play arrangement is more than what we expected. Loved it and recommend it to anyone planning a steam train ride in the forest. Best of all, the state park right behind the train stop is so worth the drive. Beautifully preserved elder redwood trees made the whole experience top notch

A fun train ride! We have been several times It is one of my favorite places to take out of town visitors. The forest time we went the last who spoke on the train was amazing! She pretty much spoke the entire train ride and told about the history of the area and the trees. The guy we had today barely said anything so that was a little disappointing. Make sure you bring all that you need as it is a long Walk from the parking lot to the camp/train area.

We took the beach train here from the boardwalk. This place was very clean, with a good assortment of reasonably priced food and souvenirs. They also have a narrow gauge train on site. The ride/drive up through the redwoods is beautiful.

Attended the Big Trees Scottish games here. Checked out the RR, thought they were a little pricey. However for a one time outing with kids, great time. Actually did the Day out with Thomas event years go when my kids were little. It was a great family trip we still talk about.

Very nice experience. Every one should definitely visit. Awesome place nice journey in train. Plan to reach this location by 9.30 take 11.15 train to boardwalk, have fun in boardwalk take back the 4.15 train back to felton. Have a look at the stalls. One tunnel and one rail bridge with open top train. Enjoy!!!

For a great mountain experience this is the place. Old growth redwoods protected by original owner. Fun train to ride through the woods. Excellent snack bar in the park. Next door is Henry cowells redwoods state park. Clean restrooms. A bit of a hike from the parking lot, even for the handicap. The gift shop is quaint and needs an update. I recommend the gift shop in the state park instead.

The ride through the redwoods is BEAUTIFUL but pricey. Those old trains cost a lot to keep going. But the grounds are lovely. I went to a wedding here once with the ceremony outside and the reception in the big "barn"/reception hall. It was a lovely event!! Very well done :)

This is a fun place to visit. If you like 'the old west,' railroads, and the forest be sure to ad this spot to your list of sites to visit. The highlight of the park is the antique steam engine. It departs for its forest circuit at 11:00 am from April through October. It or another engine run during winter months. On busier days the steam engine also departs at 12:30 2:00 and 3:30 pm. Rides are a bit pricey at around $29 for adults, $22 for kids age 2-12, plus $10 parking per car. If you are on a budget you can park along hwy 9 by the entrance to Henry Cowell State Park and walk in through the state park to Roaring Camp.

Excellent site with a vintage feeling. The train ride is a really nice experience for kids and adults, swinging through the forest up to the top of bear mountain. Love the redwoods cove at the top. Make sure to also check out the redwood loop trail nearby !

We've visited Roaring Camp many times over the last 10 years and loved each and every visit. This is a magical place that both kids and adults love. The narrow gauge steam train is beautiful and the giant Red Woods are majestic; combining these two into one activity is brilliant. Dogs are welcome So is your pocketbook as the price seems to be increasing yearly (like everything else).

We drove up last May (2016) specifically for the "Civil War Reenactment" which they hold every year. After purchasing our tickets, which included a "BBQ lunch" we boarded our steam train. The trains were "open air" cars in that there wasn't a roof and you had an unobstructed view of everything around you.

The train snaked up the steep mountain as we passed giant redwood trees and as we approached the top, we were held up by "train robbers" briefly before being rescued by rebels during a loud exchange of gun play. Everyone clapped after wards and the train continued on to its destination.

This "Civil War" reenactment draws thousands of visitors each year to see a part of American history being told by hundreds of "weekend volunteer's" who spend a week preparing for their roles and dressing up as "Confederate and Union soldiers." We stood as rows of Confederate and Union soldiers marched passed us and onto the open battlefield.

The reenactment itself, looked pretty authentic down to the weaponry each side carried with them into battle with bugles blaring and the roar of antique cannons the event was fun to watch. After the reenactment, you are allowed to walk around the camps which are made up to look like what life was like back then.

Meals and social gatherings are held among the actors and any question(s) that was asked was answered in a knowledgeable and friendly manner. We visited the shops, bought some souvenirs, took photos, and enjoyed the "BBQ" and at the end of the day rode the train back down.
