I love going camping here. It is a great place to camp with children.
Didn't stay there this year but they let us use the air pump which is very unusual very friendly very helpful people now it wasn't in the past but it is now
Great place to camp by the river for a few days. Clean bathhouse, electric and water on the sites. Can catch a van up the river to go tubing/canooing/kayaking on site. Convenient store for items you may have forgotten.
Great place to come and enjoy with your kids! The owner has my complete respect, he runs and operates "HIS" campround based on his rules. He is a great guy and if you give him the respect due of an owner you will learn he is a great guy! We have been coming yearly and we love it, we will return again next year. So if you want to spend a memorable weekend with your family, this is the place to do it. We always go tubing, kayaking and conoeing. Thanks to the owner for a great time!
This campground has so much potential. Such a shame to see it being neglected. Beautiful location on the river, but campground needs serious clean up and repairs. Main drive through campground is washed out with potholes. Concrete debris piles are a liability and safety concern for children playing in campground. Water lost all pressure while we were there. Owner is difficult to deal with and rude. Cell phone service is horrible, even with wifi. Park needs stronger signal, constantly kicking you off and dropping calls. Grass hadn't been mowed since the park opened ( first of May). I think the owner isn't interested in making improvements due to the statement he made about being there too long and he's looking for a business partner to buy him out. Pretty sure the vehicles hauling equipment and people to river for water activities haven't passed vehicle inspections in many years! Once and done for this RV park campground.
The owner is an absolute Tyrant. Beautiful location and has the potential to be amazing, but he is so unbelievably rude- it defies logic. Why run a business if you are that angry and unhappy. I rarely take the time to write negative reviews, but I feel I have to warn anyone consider going here. If and when he is no longer there, I will happily adjust my review.
Found the best place to camp, canoe, kayak and canoe on the New River on the Alleghany County line. The New River is the county line between Ashe County area above Jefferson, NC and the Allegheny Count line is pretty remote - slightly west of Sparta, NC. This butts up to the VA line at Mouth of Wilson and joins the VA Creeper Horse or hiking trail and I 'think' part of the Appalachian Trail. It's just an amazingly gorgeous place that's camper / water sports lover place to stay. Worth the extremely reasonable rates and directly across from the King's Creek Bridge / NCDENR Water / State Park Access. I recommend calling Jay for an advance reservation. 37 RV sites with power and water hook ups, camp store and beer, etc allowed (in camp only - if you behave) and respect the family-friendliness of the venue. I give it 20 starts out of 10 for being a camper / water sports lover mecca. And, being a tourism writer - that's a HUGE compliment for me. We post gorgeous photos I have been taking for a tourism article - AFTER I pick up the kayak I won at Boondocks for supporting New River Clean Up or Clean Sweep.
The property and scenery are fantastic, and location is good and easily accessible. There are potential hazards due to open holes, protruding pipes, exposed wires, etc. because of ongoing projects. General housekeeping could be improved. Some trees encroaching on the roadways that brush larger units at the entrance.
I think we have been coming here for 14 years. It is always a bit chaotic over the holiday weekend, but the best facilities and prices in the area. The campsite have lots of shade which is appreciated if you don't spend your day on the river. There are bathrooms with running water and showers.
No beer sales on Sunday morning, so stock up on Saturday or you have to wait until noon.
