First time whale watching for me. I was hesitant as often the chance to see whales is low, but due to the underwater canyon it’s almost 100% here. We did see humpback whales.
BUT the ship did not go nearly as close to the whales the other ships around, they were not even trying to. I could only get pictures with extremely high zoom.
It was nice that throughout the trip we got information about whales over the speakers, it would have been nicer to actually be able to see the whales without high zoom though.
Plus the crew was extremely eager to be back at the port after exactly 2,5 hours, even though the whales still came to the surface.
Hot chocolate tasted horrible, they only accept cash on board.
I’ll do a tour in Monterey again but with a different vendor.

Excellent service with a beautiful boat. Staff were very careful to ensure kids got to see the whales too. In no rush and very thorough descriptions of the whales and wildlife. Wish the upper.deck seating wasn't as expensive. Tiana was an amazing guide.

Check out some Whale Tail!
Bought tickets online for the upper deck and we couldn't have been happier! Boat was very clean and not oversold. I guess we got the full package because we saw a Blue Whale, numerous Humpback Whales, which included a Calf with its Mom, Dolphins and even Sunfish. You can't go wrong with Princes Monterey Whale Watching! Very nice and professional crew. Better than expected experience!response / report this review -

The crew were very friendly and knowledgeable. They expertly pursued a beautiful humpback at a respectful distance, allowing us to enjoy it in its majestic splendor. We were out on rougher seas, and quite a few became ill. The crew were attentive, patient and caring with all who were ill. They also had plenty of crew to help out, which is important with many land-lubbers and children aboard. It was a bit pricey, but for the experience of seeing a humpack jumping out of the water multiple times and the care they showed, it was well worth it.

Nice trip: the boat is huge (2 decks) but you will still see and get close to the whales. Be prepared for windy and cold temperatures. The boat leaves on the dot so be there 30min early! There is a legal limit to how close you can get and I'll have to count on them coming to the boat to see them closer.
The ride to the watching spot is pretty long (30-40min) but you might get lucky and see sun fishes or dolphins on the way there.
There is a premium for being upstairs but it is worth it.response / report this review -

I have several complaints about the professional behavior of the captain and crew on-board and comments about paying extra for accessing the upper level.
FIRST: Safety instructions were given out when I was standing in the boat by the railing outside the window. The CREW MEMBER did not bother to get my attention and gave out instructions about life jackets, etc. while I was out of earshot standing with my back to him.
SECOND: The upper deck allowed for a higher vantage point but we were not allowed access to the front half/bow of the boat. After thinking about it I could understand it, we would be standing in front of the captain. Therefor there were chains on either side of the boat to keep passengers back, only the naturalist with her microphone was allowed up there. Most sightings occurred to the front of the boat so only the few passengers up by the chains got a good view, and then you had to guess which side to stand on. If the whale appeared on the left/port side and you were on the right.too bad for you. Forget about pictures, maybe you would see the whale between everyone else who was on the left side of the boat. You actually had a more likely chance of seeing a whale on the main deck because you had access to the bow of the boat.
THIRD: When a humpback whale breached in front of the boat a man appeared in the bow, in front of the chains and he was taking pictures. I asked the naturalist "Are we allowed up front?". She replied "No", I asked "Who is that man?" It was THE CAPTAIN! He smiled and the naturalist also pulled out a camera and they both proceeded to take pictures.
Now I have been on many boat tours and many African safaris with tour guides. I have never once had one leave their post, abandon the helm, so they could take pictures (on my dime). I am not paying good money for their recreation. The captain even had the nerve to say "Hey! Even I like to take pictures!" The naturalist commented to the captain that "When I have my camera out, he swims away, when I put my camera down, he breaches. Just like last time. Ha Ha." I believe MY COMFORT, SAFETY AND VIEWING EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE ALL THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT, THAT IS WHAT I AM PAYING THEM FOR, NOT SO THEY CAN GET BETTER PICTURES THAN ME.
So yeah, I was thrilled to see the whale breach. But the behavior of the captain and his crew ruined the experience for me.response / report this review -

Friendly crew and a good trip. Our specific trip in Oct 2016 stayed close to shore, as that was where the humpback whales and dolphins were currently at. Even if you are not typically sea sick, take precaution as there's something about being stationary on the ocean being pushed around by waves is a perfect storm for sea sickness.

Excellent tour! We saw bottlenose dolphins and lots of humpback whales. My poor husband got super seasick the entire time, and the crew checked on him regularly, offered him ginger candy, and made sure he still had as good a trip as possible. The marine biologist was very knowledgeable and kept us informed and entertained. Very much recommended!

Great deal for the price paid. If you've never went whale watching (I hadn't) the fee is totally worth it. The ship isn't too small (saw others listing as the crowds gathered on one side) and it fits just the right amount of people.
We upgraded to the roof top seats, which were worth it as well. All in all, we saw a bunch of killer whales pretty close, tons of dolphins and a good number of hump backs.
