FABULOUS BISTRO - Best restaurant in Providence, actually Rhode Island.
Boo Hoo to the review about cheaper food and expense. I have eaten at Pot Au Feu on and off since the opening in 1972. The food is still great, quantities are fine, and the prices are appropriately set. (There are many other restaurants where you get very small portions and much higher prices.)
Since 1972 the menu continues to have the same favorites with some welcome additions. Prices have only increased with the natural rise in prices at the market.
My favorites, of course, the bread, any soup (my favorite is the mushroom without cream), escargot, salmon, and the chocolate torte. My parents, may they rest in peace, liked the quiche and the steak. The wine selection is fine and are reasonably priced.
The chef is always willing to accommodate special requests and diets.

DEFINITELY THE PLACE TO TRY AND REVISIT OVER AND OVER.

Excellent meal and terrific ambiance. Great for going with friends or for a more intimate occasion as well. I had the duck which I greatly enjoyed. The torte we had for dessert was very distinct and I enjoyed it though it might not be what some would expect in terms of flavor profile

The food and atmosphere speaks for this establishment. The small details that go (intentionally) unnoticed to the casual observer are a testament to the proprietor and his incredible commitment. Today was a perfect example. His sidewalks were shoveled and swept clean before any others and long before he was set to open. Bob takes care of all the details and the consistent experience proves it. What a gem!

This is definitely a must-go place. Loved the way Charles served us (he has been there 30 years). Warm bread. Fresh greens. Zesty dressings. Awesome sauce with steak. Good service. Nice cozy ambience. Overall - great experience.

We went to Pot au feu last night the food was great, I ordered the Boeuf bourguignon and the wife ordered the crepes stroganoff which she said we're very good the bread was amazing that is from Crugnale's on Newark St we had the Creme Brulee for desert the only thing I would make sure if you order the Lobster Bisque it is not New England style it is the French style which is very deep and rich very oceanic in flavor

Had a very romantic dinner here with my other half. Walking down into the restaurant, we were charmed by the rustic atmosphere. After being seated, we were served warm bread to snack on while we watched the chef prepare our meals in the kitchen. When the food arrived, it was delicious. Of note was the roasted duck which was cooked perfectly. I hope to return!

What a delicious and wonderful experience. Pot au Feu is a gem. Came in for the first time last night not knowing what to expect and walked out feeling very satisfied. The service/atmosphere was eclectic but great. Food was delicious. My mouth is watering at the thought of going back!

OK. I have been coming here for almost 25 years. It seems as though it's consistently getting worse. The food is getting cheaper and the prices are getting more expensive. I don't mind paying more but the value is not worth the money at this point. The seafood dish which useto have Diver saw scallops and a nice presentation has resorted to Bay scallops with chopped up small bits of shrimp that does cheapen the dish but still charging $33. That's crazy. The place was not fall on a Friday evening at 7:30 and I know why

This place is very much a "has-been". I wonder whether the owner actually tastes the food out of the kitchen because our meal there last Friday was more like cafeteria slop. It was totally without salt. The Escargot was totally tasteless. The duck dish tasted like it had been microwaved swimming in a very sweet sauce, and the chicken liver dish was nasty. The side dish was something like a broccoli au gratin that was totally mushy, like baby food. Again everything had no salt added at all; totally tasteless!

Whether performing in a special event for the owners or dining with friends, the Pot Au Feu is first class, cozy and great food. Having recently visited Paris, I can testify that the Pot Au Feu is the real deal.

It's great to have a place get classic old school french cooking and I hope they are here for 40 more years. The space is amazing and the history is undeniable. But it's time for a refresh. It's.almost..there, but not quite. The extensive menu is prepared in a one chef kitchen. If they did half as many dishes I'm positive they could give them the attention they deserve. They are living in their history and they are not keeping up with the explosion of high quality food that is all around them.

The service was terrible and the food was not that good if you have a resivation expect to wait at least an hour before you are seated and don't expect to eat until another hour or so with only one cook. Very bad experience
