A great dining place in LA! Find a shortest line and line up there so you can get your foods faster. I have beef dip and don’t think it’s that good. I have had a better one elsewhere. Good dining experience and have to experience this place while you are in LA. It’s located very close to LA Union Station (5 minutes walk).

Philippe french dip sandwiches are in LA staple and continue to draw me in, no matter what the hour is. I almost have an emotional experience with the place; anytime that I returned from a night of drinking, my pals and I would always grab a bite to eat from the establishment. Although their breakfast is not on par with other Great LA eateries such as The Pantry, Philippe holds up with its own unique experience. Nothing tops a lunch like a French dip sandwich and coleslaw. Their drinks are refreshing, cheap, and in perfect portions. The staff is always friendly, and moves quickly. I could say that one thing that is required upon every visit to the restaurant is their house mustard sauce that that sits upon every table. Philippe is a must-try.

One of the great LA treasures. Prices are still incredibly affordable and the quality of the food is excellent. All of the dips are worth trying but I tend to sick with Beef dip. The salads are all worth trying but I'm partial to the potato salad. Be sure to find s booth to eat in rather than one of the open tables!

This place is great! I needed to stop somewhere to get a sandwich to take on my 10 p.m. train ride with me. This place was a great place for that! They have dip sandwiches of turkey, beef, lamb or pastrami. I have the pastrami sandwich it was wonderful! They also have many side dishes and salads. I would highly recommend this place for a sandwich even if you're not in the area to take a train! It is open till 10 p.m. and also has very comfortable seating and a unique train Motif with lots of model trains.

We went here after seeing this place on the food network, and wanted to try out the original French Dip sandwich. We got the regular beef and the pork. They were both good, but I thought the beef tasted better. We also grabbed a place of olives, pickles and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the kids.

It was fun, you sit at some picnic tables to eat, and it was pretty busy. Overall the price was reasonable and less than $4.00 for each of the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

An L.A. institution. I can't visit downtown without coming here. Famous landmark for their famous French dipped sandwich. Always a great sandwich, and sides. So many side dishes and desserts to choose from. The sandwiches whether beef or pork, are best double dipped and with their hot mustard. Although you can order just a dipped sandwich, if you want it a little drier. Yes, the mustard is "hot," so just add a little but to give your sandwich a kick. They have pickles, potato and macaroni salad, coleslaw, and potato chips. You can order a side salad, chili with or without beans, beef stew or a daily soup. They also offer many dessert options, such as fruit pies, cream pies, cakes, custard, tapioca or ice cream. They also offer breakfast early in the day. There are so many options to choose from, and they are all delicious.

Had a great lunch here. Went with a double dip pastrami sandwich, as well as a pickle. Great value and great taste. I didn't have any dessert but they had a lot of options.

I can't wait to go back.

I have been going off & on to Philippe since the 70's. I love the French Dip Beef sandwiches, their salads & the spicy mustard I take home a souvenir of. My kid sister turns 60 on 10/5 & had never been there. She is glad she finally went. Our sandwich maker has a 10/6 birthday.

Place was phenomenal!! It has such a cool feel to it! You will have to wait but the food comes out as soon as you order. I got the lamb double dip with potato salad and a pickled egg. The pickled egg is a must try. Loved this place and you can explore Chinatown while you are there!

NOSTALGIC! That's what comes to mind when I come to this place. This place is an L.A. landmark. The dipped sandwiches are their staple. I get the lamb sandwich, double dipped, with a side of pickled beets and pickled hard boiled eggs. But they have many other options, not to mention their homemade desserts. I never regret stopping by. If I'm within a 30 mile radius I'll drive to it. Going to the Dodger game? Make it a tradition, and stop here to grab a bite. The place is buzzing with excitement. Staff is friendly and upbeat, not to mention the cute hostesses. But this place takes you back to a better place. Parking is great, and nice views of the Los Angeles area. This is a must for anyone visiting us from out of town. Make yourself a favor, and stop by. Pics below to make your mouth water. Enjoy when you go.

One of the oldest restaurants in Los Angeles & claims to have introduced the French dip sandwich. Place is very reasonably priced & it is about MEAT. You stand in line -it's always crowded. You order & your food is put on a tray. You carry to your table in the large multi room dining area. Great sides & beer. Be sure to take home some hot mustard.

Food is always great! This place is usually busy especially when the Dodgers are in town. The lines move fast and the food is well worth the wait. I always order a beef dip wet and a baked apple. The food, desserts, and lemonade are all DELICIOUS!!!!!

While it's up for debate on who originated the first french did, opening in 1908, Philippe's is definitely one of the first places offering french dipped sandwiches in Los Angeles. You line up, order from the counter and on of the servers hand makes and dips your sandwich, slices your pie and fills your coffee. There's a variety of meats, cheeses, and the option for a double dip if you want your sandwich extra wet.

They also have have a great breakfast if you get there early enough, a wide selection of pies, salads, and drinks. It is almost always extremely crowded, although during off hours you can sometimes walk right up and order.

A Los Angeles classic dive with great history and even greater sandwiches, Philippe's has been an occasional stop for me since I moved to Southern California in the early 1980s. In all that time, it has changed remarkably little, and judging from the photos on the wall, it hasn't changed all that much since its founding.

I almost always have the lamb dip, they slice the meat right off a bone. But they are best known for the beef dip, being one of several restaurants with a plausible story and claim to being its originator. But don't neglect their sides, they do a decent egg custard, pickled eggs, pies, salads, and more.

Prices have sure gone up over the years, but the quality and great service hasn't changed. Get the Lamb sandwich double dipped. Macaroni salad and pie are also good. Second parking lot accros the street. Tip: each server has its own line so jump in a short one. Good lemonade to.
