There is a great walk in the gardens through the ruins of the early mission. It’s beautiful. The church is amazing as well, incredibly beautiful with a clock tower. There is a museum and beautiful gardens and memorial gardens as well. So worth the trip out to the mission. Make sure you see the pepper tree, apparently it’s the oldest one in the area and the offspring of that tree is “peppered” (excuse the pun) throughout the local country side.

Beautifully restored mission. The largest of all the California missions. Still home to the Franciscans.

Came here for Engaged Encounter weekend and it was a great time. I was surprised by the quality of the food and cleanliness of the rooms.

As a mother, I cannot imagine how Jesus' Mom must have felt seeing her innocent son being tortured and forced to carry the cross.

A reminder to us all that no pain is greater than that of Virgin Mary and our Savior Jesus.

THANK YOU GOD FOR BLESSING and LOVING US MORE THAN WE DESERVE.

THANK YOU Mission San Luis Rey for providing us a place to mediate and reflect to be more grateful. Complain less, Appreciate more.

Beautifully kept, sprawling, and still in service. This is one of the most pristine of the missions and arguably the largest. Worth a visit -you can also see here the first Pepper Tree planted in California.

I didn’t see all Missions in CA but Old Oceanside Mission was jaw dropping. It is so huge and his white gates look like they have so much to say.
Fascinating is Mission overall shape. It is very well preserved compared to other Missions I visited. Church interior reminded me of Italy.
Chapel and cemetery are still in operation. We had a quick half an hour museum tour, but I don’t recall ticket price. If you are near San Diego, be sure to visit this place, you won’t be disappointed.
    Five star experience indeed.
