Oak Island Accommodations ruined our first ever vacation with our son. They knowingly let us and others before us stay in a mold infested house. We stayed at Storm Haven until we continued to get sicker and sicker and finally had enough and cut our “vacation” short. We were supposed to be there Thursday to Thursday and left instead on Monday afternoon. The first night there we had to call them about the smell and they first responded with sending cleaning lady with fragrance so we had to call back and get them to send over the A/C guy. He replaced all the filters and that barely did anything for the smell. The smell hit you like a ton of bricks.. the last thing you would expect from one of the nicest houses on Oak Island. Within hours, we all started getting sick, sneezing non-stop, lethargy, coughing, headaches and it just kept getting worse (all the signs of mold exposure). We would feel better when we went out for dinner and worse when we got back. This was supposed to be the first vacation with our 11 month old son but it quickly turned into a nightmare. He couldn’t even sleep through the night without coughing non-stop and nose running horribly. In the mornings we woke up with zero energy and felt like we got hit by a train. On Monday we had enough and went to the office. The maintenance guy came over and admitted that they did not steam clean the floors and they needed to do that due to the mold/mildew issue. They didn’t have enough time in between rentals to do so. I also learned that they previously had to replace an entire bedroom of walls due to mold behind them. Interestingly enough, the family members that stayed in that room did not get nearly as sick. By the way, we also had ants in the kitchen and killed 7 roaches around the inside of the house too. Later Monday, we went back to the office. They tried to move us to another place that was a dump and even smelled worse. This was a multi-million dollar beachfront house and they wanted to put us on a second street old cottage. When we asked for our money back they were only going to give us the unused portion. We ended up arguing for more and got about half our money back. They admitted that there was a known issue there, dehumidifiers for the issue, etc. and still let us stay there! We should’ve gotten a full refund and travel expense paid back and offered us a trip for next year. We felt so sick we barely did anything or got any good pictures since our son was so sick as well. I work 70 hours a week and badly needed this vacation and instead it was a total nightmare. Instead of sitting out on the porch Monday night enjoying the beach, we drove home through thunderstorms and got home at 11:30 at night. Instead of enjoying Tuesday at the beach, we were sanitizing all of our things and washing every item to rid away the mold. Wednesday and Thursday we spent with our sick son trying to get him better instead of enjoying the island. It’s one thing to ruin a vacation and memories that could have been for a family, but it is inexcusable to put profit before the health of your guests. No one should be staying at Storm Haven until that mold issue is completely taken care of. I hate that this is what I will remember instead of the wonderful family vacation we were hoping for.

We have rented with Oak Island Accomadations three times. Each time they have been easy to deal with. The most recent visit in June 2017 we realized that the air conditioning on the first floor of our house wasn’t working upon arrival. They did bring 2 window air conditioning units for us but it took 4 days before they actually fixed the air conditioning. Other than that we have never had a problem with them. We will definitely rent from them again in the future!

House was just as described. Immaculately cleaned. Perfect spot in the beach. And the check-in process was great. The rental company even allowed us to get into our rental early that day. And not only were linens supplied, but the beds were made when we got there. It might seem trivial, but that was so very appreciated. When you've traveled a long distance, it is nice to not have to spend time making up every bed. And there were lots of other supplies there for us as well Including dish towels, dish washer tablets, and some beach toys. I was very impressed with the customer service of this company, and would definitely rent from them again, without any hesitation.

Most of the visit was great. We did rent a house with a hot tub which we discovered upon arrival was empty. A repairman was sent out quite quickly but, sadly, the hot tub was never repaired to a usable state. We also had some problems with lights/bulbs not working which were fixed. The beach and island were fantastic, as always!

We have rented through OIA for more than 20 years. We have never been disappointed. If there has been an issue they have quickly taken care of it. Oak Island is our family vacation destination. Our girls grew up going there, now we are taking our grandson, and looking forward to more grandchildren to share in our love of the island

My family takes a yearly trip to oak island. We have rented several houses over the years and always find them true to the description. We spent a week at "Aloha". The location was probably our favorite yet. Within steps from the front porch you were on the beach and very convenient to the store and ice machine. The house is right beside public parking so with that if you did not have your items on beach by 8am the general public set up directly in front of you, other then that location perfect. Due to previous storm the sand dune in front of house was washed under house in one the parking bays it took up parking but doubled as perfect shaded sandbox for the children. The house is older house but for the most part well kept. Upon arrival we noticed the livingroom furniture to be very wet, not sure if maid sprayed something on couches or the prior renters sat around on furniture with wet swimsuits. We put cushions outside to dry this helped none they stayed damp the whole stay. The windows need adequate blinds and curtains. Two of the bedrooms had broken missing blinds and the curtains on every window were not large enough to cover. I'm not sure what owners definition of "fully equipped kitchen" if by having kitchen appliances qualifies then yes those were provided other then that we had one pot, one pan that had seen better days, and also pan for oven. It took well over hour to cook for family of 9 with those items. The grill was rusted out and not usable. The AC ran constantly and never cooled below 75, it reached 78 everyday inside home. The beds in both guest rooms were very comfortable. The master bedrooms matress needed replacing, my parents slept at foot of the bed due to top being wore out. The front porch door did not have chain or barrel to keep door from flying freely, my nephew was walking by door slung open due to wind and it knocked him in head and threw him down on deck. The hot/cold shower was available for rinse off from ocean but was not enclosed to be used as outside shower. The enclosed porch would be much nicer if the windows were actually usable they had them screwed shut and the air did not cool out there. The windows had haze on glass that was not cleanable and this obstructed view of ocean. If the owners would spend some of that 2900 a pop on window treatments, kitchen items, and a deep cleaning of furniture or replace this would be absolute wonderful home.

We have used OI Accomodations for all of our vacation rentals. Never had a problem and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We have had many wonderful vacations on Oak Island .

We stayed in a lovely home Plenty of Fish last year July 10-17, 2016. However on our way home I received an e-mail falsely accusing us of damaging and tearing apart a lovely home! We were accused of breaking into the owners closets, moving pictures and furniture around, even moving a heavy grill from the kitchen patio to the outside shower and wicker furniture from one porch to another and braking the pool skimmer! This was all done by the previous renters. We know this because we watched the clean up process from across the street where my parents were renting. We could not get into the house until 5 PM even though we were at oak island by 12 for early check in! Pool service said the pool was a horrible mess, liquor boxes every where. Beware renter of this week July 8-16, 2017 just in case the previous renters rent again and you are following them. Ask for a walk through to be sure things are in order. Oak island actually banished me from renting a house after renting 5 houses a year for 25 years for our annual reunions!!

I have used them twice since March 2017, both times they have found the perfect place for my family. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a vacation rental. I will definitely be using them anytime I'm staying in Oak Island.
