I went with my aunt here early and waited for the restaurant to open.
There was no wait once open as we were seated immediately! Our server Adrianna, was a very warm and welcoming. She has a vast knowledge about the different dishes and offerings and can describe the foods in serious detail, as well as offer personal suggestions. Service was incredible as we ordered a lot of dishes to sample, the next course came out right on time after finishing one course!
The Spanish Octopus,
Welfleet Clam Chowder,
and Maine Lobster Roll were amazing (fresh, perfectly seasoned, well presented, and perfectly cooked)!
However, we were not too impressed with the Neptune Johnnycake, it was an acquired taste and the taste of the caviar was masked by the cake and the cake was very dense (more of a personal matter as it is a popular dish).
Altogether our experience her was very good and we would come here again to try more things!

Good quality food if you’re willing to pay the price. The food is definitely not cheap, but you’re not going to be disappointed with the freshness of the seafood. We ordered a few oysters and clams as well as both variations of lobster rolls. We actually liked the mayo version over the buttered version. Surprised both of us too! Watch out for the wait here. If you’re pressed for time skip this place until you have time to wait at least 30 minutes.

The weeks leading up to my trip to Boston to visit a friend, all I could think about was ordering the warm lobster roll from Neptune Oyster. Sorry if I'm too mainstream. I told my friend that I flew to Boston for the lobster roll, not her. She thought I was joking, but I wasn't I'm salivating just reflecting upon my experience at Neptune Oyster.

The lobster roll was everything I imagined it would be. The lobster perfectly buttered and the bread perfectly toasted. Each bite filled with absurd amounts of lobster, just how I like it. As a college student, it drained my bank account, but I would order it again.

As many people mentioned, the place is really small and the wait can be ridiculous. However, I never felt cramped, despite being seated next to complete strangers. On the other hand, the wait is truly absurd, and although the food is absolutely delicious, I wouldn't say it's worth a 2.5 hour wait. My friends and I ended up wandering the streets and having some drinks at a bar to pass the time, but we were starving by the time we finally got the phone call.

We had the Spanish Octopus which was cooked perfectly, crispy exterior and creamy soft center. We also had the lobster clam bake which unfortunately had over cooked lobster. It was chewy and rubbery but was flavorful. It is the only reason we can’t give it 5 stars. The mackerel was phenomenal. Highly recommend to come give this a try.

Touted as one of the more expensive lobster rolls at 38$ and for good reason - fresh and good portions with a choice of salad vs fries (recommend salad as fries would make everything greasy). Also got a variety oysters and man do they know their stuff of how it tastes and where it comes from. I would've taken off one star off the ridiculously long wait time (1.5 - 3 hours) depending on size of party. I was solo and it still took 1.5 hours. I didn't take the star off because they have a call back option. You go and provide your phone number and you can go explore little Italy's portion of the Freedom Trail and come back for an amazing meal.

So, this place usually has an hour+ wait (its super small inside). Go by there and put your name on the list, then tool around North End (go see the historic sites or have a beer down the street). This place is worth the wait. The butter lobster roll will not disappoint, but it is a very heavy meal and they don't go light on the butter. We also had the octopus appetizer which was very delicious and much lighter.

Yes, there was a lengthy wait. We waited 1 hour 20 min, checked in at 2:30 pm. But that tells you how good the place is. There are so many bars and restaurants around it. Go have an appetizer or drink somewhere while you are waiting. And, when you finally get in it's very quaint (Texan for small). The service is great, people are friendly. And the food is beyond amazing! If you are coming to Boston, and you are not allergic to shellfish, you must come here! Hot lobster roll was insane!!! It was a great experience.

I was able to get in line at 11am on Monday and walk right in to seating when they opened the doors at 11:30am. There was just one of me, and it was the last day of my vacation - so it was quite a treat. The oysters and rock crab I had from the raw bar were phenomenal. The grenache rose' I had along with them was tasty, and the Monday special Lobster spaghettini was the most tasty lobster and red sauce spaghetti dish I've ever had. It was huge, however, so I ended up just picking the lobster out. I enjoyed the conversation I had with the staff and those around me at the bar. Tiny place, be ready to wait in line and get there as early as possible to get a seat.

If there's a line, it must be good. The wait is about 2-2.5 hours, but you can give your number and walk around north end. My dad and I tried others places while we waited for our name to be called.

The place is jam-packed, but ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE WAIT. I got the lobster roll (hot with butter which is what I got or cold with mayo). He got oysters. There is a huge variety of oysters and a person who only shucks them.

This place is the place to go to for lobster roll. I may be spoiled but I don't think I would go anywhere else.

I was visiting Boston for the weekend and prior to going I did some research and multiple times read about Neptune Oyster. I decided that I needed to go before leaving back home to NY. I read about the hours of wait but didn't realize how much of a wait it'll be when we got there at night. They weren't taking any more names and people on the list were on there from 3-4 hrs prior! We decided to go back for lunch the next day and put our name down. We arrived at the place at noon and at that point it was 1.5hrs wait which wasn't as bad as the night before. In the meantime, my bf and I decided to take a stroll by the Harbor that's a few blocks down and was given a call back about an hour later. The wait was totally worth it!!!!! We ordered the little necks for appetizer which the sauce with sausage was amazing! And for our entree, we shared the clam bake which is a 2-lbs Maine lobster with clams and corn cobs. It was absolute heaven!!!! Completely happy that I decided and waited to try this spot during my visit. Highly recommend!

Outstanding experience. Oyster selection gas something for everyone. Menu items are all well thought out and executed perfectly. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The chef made a great dish for my vegan daughter and I had a delicious buttered lobster roll along with some awesome fries. The place is small but we didn't have to wait although it is worth the wait. The staff was wonderful too!

Great lobster rolls. Only problem is the waitif you are a party of 4 good luck. We were a party of 4 and put our name down at 4pm didnt get seated until 8:30pm. I would highly suggest going 3-4hrs early to put your name down on the list (they take your #) and call you when your table is ready.

The lobster rolls are the best in the city, and best I've ever had. Make sure to get there way ahead of time. It is not unusual to have to wait 2-4 hours for a table. So put your name in and finish up the freedom trail. By the time you finish you should be about ready for a well deserved, fantastic meal.

Amazing lobster roll. Lives up to the hype. But be prepared to queue - probs best for a solo visit. But the worst thing is the staff - quite up themselves. The hostess leaves people waiting at the entrance for ages, so people stand their clueless. There is space for about 4 people at the entrance but she lets it build up before doing anything. Since they are used to queues you think they would have developed a more efficient system just smacks of arrogance.
Sat at the bar and took about 10-15 minutes to take my order - absolute joke.
