If you like lake view and water this camp ground is an excellent place for you. The camp ground is in excellent shape with great sites with great views
My wife and I had a great time very clean restroom locations very convenient and the staff were all so nice and helpful
Had a great time Labor day weekend. Stayed at site 25. Had the nicest neighbors. Was very quite even tho a party weekend. Can't wait to get back there
Visited some friends who were camping here for the weekend. The camp was nice, lake was nice, but the two star rating reflects the host and hostess at the front gate. Not welcoming at all. I felt like some sort of criminal, rather than a first time guest. The guy behind me in line was a lot more helpful. I'll not be subjecting myself to either of them ever again if I can help it. I never understand why folks work in customer service when they seem to be so bothered by helping people.
Campground has some nice sites. Lots of noise from boat traffic on the lake and train noise from a nearby train track. Bath houses are not clean and had no ventilation. Would be sweaty and needing another shower before I was able to get dressed. Bath houses were also infested with mosquitoes and many other insects. Have to agree with all the negative comments about the campground "hosts". I am 66 years old and been camping for at least 60 years. These were the worst people to deal with that I have ever encountered. Not worth you time to experience these "hosts". Life is too short. Will never be back.
I'm am extremely disappointed to have to leave this review after having used McKinney Campground for many years. My entire family have been regulars at this site. We reserved a site for a weekend and when we saw there was a lighting storm we cancelled in advance due to safety concerns. We were still charged for the day and we were charged a ten dollar cancellation fee. I don't known what world that makes sense in but I surely won't make that mistake twice.
I will admit up front that we did not read the two pet maximum limit when making our reservation. That being said, there is still no excuse for very poor attitudes and outright lying. We have three small dogs, so when asked how many dogs, I replied three. The lady behind the counter said that we cannot have three dogs on our site. We will need to leave one of the dogs somewhere else. Our home is several hundred miles away, so that was not an option. After some consideration I asked if they had any open sites, maybe I could tent camp with one of the dogs and my wife and daughter could stay with the other two in the RV. She sneered at me, yes sneered and said that we would still have three dogs in one site, but it doesn't matter they were completely full. We had to make some other arrangements that cost us a lot of time and additional money. We did some research later on our way to another, and quite honestly inferior site, and found that they did indeed have at least two more open tent sites.
I can understand sticking strictly to the rules, but sneering and intentionally lying to a customer is unacceptable.
Stayed for a weekend, did not want to leave!
We were able to get a site right next to the water, the beach wasn't too crowded, and the bathrooms were clean. Like, not even worry about shower shoes kinda clean. (still recommended though, lol) They have nice amenities, including a washer/dryer set!
Was impressed with the free, easily accessible, life-jackets that are available right next to the water. Very clear instructions with photos too. Such a great idea to help keep people safe!
Overall a pretty sweet spot. You have to book in advance most of the time, since they fill-up quickly.
Gave it 5 because it's good AND close to Atlanta where I live. Perfect getaway location for the weekend but you better book in advance online 3 days out. Lakeside spots are very close to the water. Beautiful but if boat noise annoys you, then select a spot up in the woods. Heavy tree cover mitigates most of the boat noise but of course you give up the lake view. Nice little beach. Restrooms and showers are clean. Laundry facility good. Park staff is knowledgeable, thorough and diligent about running a good campground. If I drove to this campground from far away, I would give it a 4 simply because of the boat noise, an occasional train and you can hear I-75 just barely.
Had a wonderful night camping out here. Was able to book the tickets online and reserve a spot right on the water. It's a beautiful grounds situated right on the lake-side, nestled in the forest almost all the way through.
Side Bonus: There are two gas stations and a Dollar General just a mile up the street so its easy to grab missing supplies.
It has plenty of amenities, playgrounds, swim areas, volleyball court, bathrooms, shower houses, boat launch ramps, and I'm sure much more as well.
There are quite a bit of RV sites, but there are primitive camping sites as well. They all come with firepits/grills and picnic tables. The nicer campsites have a wooden balcony over the edge, which also makes it great for fishing.
They also have marked hiking trails, but I never had the chance to explore any.
Would recommend to anyone with kids or without, who wants to have a relaxing night out under the stars, maybe a dip in the water or two!
