Love this place! We visit this area often on our bikes and Mateys is a place we always stop at to eat and have a cold one! Great view of the surrounding area! Overall Superb atmosphere.

Now my wife and i visited this restaurant/ bar at Michigan city from another state to try a new place. And it looks cute from outside. The place has a nice feel to it. The food was good. But the service really sucked. Being in the restaurant business for 25 years, it's important to have a pleasant if not extraordinary service. This is not the kind of service I would expect from a place like this. The server just seemed too busy (even though it wasn't as busy on a Wednesday night) and she seemed disinterested in taking the order. The drinks were probably the worst and sweetest Long Island we ce ever had. We were in a very good mood and wanted to drink more. But the way it was made even aA regular sweet iced tea would not taste that sweet. Bad experience. Will never go out go back

Our visit here was brief on Sunday just before closing time. Our kids were hungry and we were thirsty so we ordered only a couple of beers and french fries. I can say that this place has a feel of hawaian bar with 3 floors of bars and seating. The very top floor is part of roof and provides nice views of the area. In the 75 - 90 degree weather it is pleasing to sit there and enjoy cold drinks or good snack. Waitress was very attentive and was checking on us frequently. Place was nearly empty at the time we were there. So overall nice and pleasant family outing.

Charged a $50 deposit to hold my tab open. This is not an uncommon practice, to be sure, and it is posted. It seems though, that only one of all the bar tenders does soand, of course, this individual neglected to mention this ahead of time.

The food is fantastic and I almost always have a great time there.

However, waking up the next day to find out that $50 of my money was now going to be out of my reach for a few days, or more. Simply put, just one more way someone has found to add stress to my life.

    Thank you Matey's!

It's a neat place to eat on a nice summer day on the rooftop. Come here in the daytime if you plan to theat. At night it turns into a club type atmosphere that brings out some of the worst in Michigan city who always try to start stuff with people. Overall it's not bad though in the daytime. Watch out for the prices. We noticed they charged us $1 more for each of our sandwiches, we had to double check the menu and we were correct.

Usually have a pretty good time at Mateys, I have seen it packed many nights and everyone is always having a good time. Only complaint really is seeing how many times I've been there compared to recently the upper deck was almost empty and the downstairs wasn't near as fill as I've seen it before and they stopped letting people in as well as told the line to leave which was disappointing on my birthday my friends that got off a little later couldn't join us for the fun when it wasn't even that busy. Hopefully next time will be better

Food was awful. Server forgot our order. Asked to make sure they had everything on the menu, ordered, 10 minutes later she came to tell us they were out of what was ordered. Tried again and the food was not cooked done. Will not go back! There was one other table beside us so they weren't busy at all. Server got an attitude when I told her the best thing on the plate was the fake mashed potatoes.
$65.00 later we left. Very disappointed.

No acknowledgement after first 15 minutes upon finding a table on a easy Sunday (place not busy). No drink menu, waitress had no idea what was on tap. had to "walk down to the bar and look at the chalk board" to see what drink specials were.. Appetizer came out late, same time as dinners/burger/chicken sandwich came out. Chicken sandwich came out straight raw on the inside. Glad we cut it in half before eating..Waited 10-15 for the waitress to show up after disappearing for quite sometimeSandwich was taken back to the kitchen (assumed) waitress only returned after approx 10min with check, and asked if we "wanted something else" (a different sandwich) due to the raw chicken.Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Good atmosphere, and great quality food. The lunch menu was only sandwiches and none of them tasted amazing just okay. The dinner menu did seem good, i just didn't go during dinner.

Friendly staff, sat out on the covered porch near the road on a chilly day but warmed up by outdoor heaters. They were out of pulled pork so I ordered a grilled chicken salad, chicken was delicious and well seasoned. Have visited in the summer and would recommend when the weather is warm and all of the levels are staffed and operational
