I would definitely consider myself a foodie and Mara's is definitely a foodie's dream. I'm a big seafood person so some of my favorites are the catfish and baked redfish. Although if you haven't tried their crawfish stuffed bread, you haven't lived. But there's definitely lots for all the non seafood lovers as well. Recently had duck and pork chops which were both pwrfecThere's always new and exciting specials when I come in. Recently tried a Cajun twist on avocado toast which was the perfect appetizer! I'm also in love with all of their seasonal items including all their pumpkin desserts for the fall and their homemade eggnog and soups for the winter! Always excited to see what new things are cooking up when I come in, especially the new ALCOHOL INFUSED ice creams, which I haven't seen anywhere else! Can't wait till Mardi Gras coming up to get a bite of their king cakes!!!

This is the greatest BBQ place in Long Island hands down. And no I didn't get paid for this review. I'm just a fan of barbecue and I looked them up online and happen to go there and it was the greatest find I've ever made as far as restaurants go. My wife and myself love it and we took her daughter and her fiance and it was fantastic and we go back regularly. This is a must-do place for great barbecue in Cajun food

The food here is done incredibly well. However, you may end up waiting a while to get your meal. I'd normally overlook that because of the quality of the meal, however, my coworkers and I only have an hour for dinner and we often exceed that when dining here.

You can't get amy closer to New Orleans except here !The food is home cooking orleans style. Gumbo to key lime pie.Comfy, gracious staff. Not too pricey. A nice place to try something off the traditional type of eateries.

I was absolutely floored by the good food here, I stopped by on a whim passing through and ordered the jambalaya and ribs. Holy smokes it's good! Staff were such awesome people! I highly recommend saving space for their homemade chocolate cream cake!!

The environment and food was fantastic, everyone there was as nice as can be, the Gator bites and pecan pie are a must try. We will definitely return.

Ribs were great, grits were great, service good, collards under cooked, but good flavor. Will definitely try again. Many things on the menu to try.

Amazing food, amazing people, amazing place. The brisket was cooked so we'll it literally melted in my mouth. The fries were hand cut. It's a really homemade taste, all created with passion. The bar is stocked with whiskey from all over the world and when you get a glass it comes with its story. I will definitely be back no doubt about it!

Have been there total of three times, just to give it a chance, because was so glad too see southern food here.

Bombed out all three times. Feels cramped and sticky, not squeaky clean. Seems to be big on hard drinks - "flights of scotch" and such. This must be an appeal for hard-drinking locals, maybe how they are paying the bills apart from the mediocre food.

Friend ordered Jambalaya and it was kind of a scoop full of stuffing that was luke warm as if it had been sitting a while. She wasrepelled by it - felt like a ripoff from a high school cafeteria.

My shrimp grits seemed like mostly grits, and no special flavoring. Other times I have the rib combo - again serviceable but non-descript, not high quality, not tender nor flavorful.

Also tried the crawfish etouffe (are the crawfish frozen? where are they from?), and the mac and cheese (also not exciting, not creamy). The catfish poboy - was not bad but did not seem fresh, seemed frozen (again where from?)

I liked the fried green tomatoes, though could have been a bit more generous. The sides are generally harmless but not exciting.

I wish they would brighten the place up, shrink or remove the bar, freshen the tables and chairs, make it squeaky clean, serve perkily, liven the spices in a personalized way, downplay the bar atmosphere.

Maybe a grand reopening with special attention to the fine points of the food and atmosphere - that it should never taste bland, re-heated, sitting around.

I'd go back and try again. I like to support local place. But this place is not good for my tastes.

But right now this is not a place I am comfortable eating.

Nice environment. Little taste of New Orleans on Long Island. Space is a little tight and it's very loud on a Friday night. Definitely worth the visit. Certainly something different.
