This is a classic Chicago diner. It has a storied history, but remains relevant in the modern day with delicious food, a nice atmosphere, and good service. There are a lot of excellent diner options in Chicago, but Lou Mitchell’s is right up near the top! I usually get an omelette, and I recommend trying the Greek sausage which reminds me of pepperoni with its spices. I have yet to try the pie but I hear it is delicious, and I will have to make an effort to get some next time.
Good food - great service! Yvette took care of us - super speedy and courteous. Greatly appreciate that! Food was also great - the soft serve at the end was icing on the cake.
Waited 20 minutes and totally worth the wait. Accommodating and informative staff, lovely people. Huge breakfast food. Egg white omelet was delicious and huge. Real maple syrup on the tables. Eggs Benedict-incredible. Fresh donut holes from a wicker basket, served by a cute little lady, while you wait. The hostess was wonderful. Chased us out the door to ask why we left so quicklywe told her we saw the line and didn’t want to stay at the table. That made her smile.
a very unique diner. donut holes when u walk in, great service. food is a step above a regular diner. waffles and pancakes are good. all egg dishes served in a skillet with potatoes. biscuits and gravy are solid. if u are looking for a diner with some character come here!
Wellit was an interesting place as it is at the starting end of historical ROUTE 66(But never claim that to an Angelenian). Huh Great food offerings and my breakfast meal was just right and the service was top notch!!!!! Truly..a must do when in the WINDY CITY OF CHICAGO
I love how welcome you feel when you walk in every time! The food is always consistently good and the service is fast! Even if theres a line to be seated, you get offered donut holes and for me, the wait has yet to be longer than 30 minutesunless you're with more than 4 people.
2 egg breakfast is actually 4 eggs so unless you are super hungry '1 egg' breakfast will be plenty. Everything I've had has been great and the staff is friendly and helpful. I am usually by myself so I sit at the counter. Somehow a box of donut holes finds its way home with me nearly every time I visit. Oh! And they sell bread if you find you like the toast and want to take some home too.
Best waffle I've ever had. Both the pecan waffle and the bacon pecan waffle are great but I'd say just pecan is better. Super friendly and efficient. Crowded but not uncomfortably so. I would recommend this place for breakfast and I will for sure be back. The two times I was there I had two of the friendliest waitresses.
Great classic breakfast spot. Famous from the movies. Good food & service. Quickly served.
Was waiting to board my cross country train at the union station and a google search for nearby restaurants brought me to this dinner. The service is very efficient and the food portions are huge. Ordered a slice of cake of the day (it was chocolate coconut that particular day) and was surprised to see the serving size. The cake was very nice with just the right amount of sweet and cream. Could barely finish the delux sandwich that I had ordered after eating that cake. The sandwich was also good sized and came with a big heap of crispy home style fries.
A true Chicago experience! Great food, great service, in a fun family style environment. Come with an appetite--large portions. It's your own fault if you leave hungry! Oh BTW, congratulations on "the world's finest cup of coffee," as Buddy in Elf would say--"you did it!"
Lou Mitchell's is a true Chicago institution. Amazing breakfast or lunch diner style. It truly has n classic diner feel and the service is second to none. If you want an American diner and amazing fresh baked donut holes, look no further.
Thoroughly enjoyed my first Lou Mitchell's experience! First place we stopped in Chicago and to be greeted by a donut while waiting in line was superb. Large portions and great service. Having never been to a major city like Chicago, I thought the tables and seating was cramped, but I realize that just comes along with the charm of this classic diner. Came back before our trip home to get several jars of their fantastic orange marmalade. Cannot wait to come back!
