We lived the hotel! The staff we so amazing! Loved how cozy it was. Me and my wife will be back soon.

This is our go to place every year. My wife and I are both major book nerds so a library themed hotel is great. Although the rooms are pricey, you get a lot for your money. They don't believe in nickel and diming you. Free snacks and drinks all day in the lounge, continental breakfast and wine and cheese hour. And the staff is wonderful. You can't go wrong staying here.

I stayed here with my partner a few weeks ago for a wedding we were attending the next day. We stayed for two nights. We had a little trouble finding it because of the discreet sign, but were nothing but impressed when we walked in. The entire staff was so helpful and nice and accommodating. They have a stack of books for you to take for free when you check in. All of the books sounded so interesting, so my partner and I took one of each since they said they had plenty of other copies. The room wasn’t super spacious but it also wasn’t super tight. It was a great amount of space for the two nights we stayed there. You can tell the staff truly cares about their guests. The complimentary wine and cheese night was every night from 5-8-which we went to during our stay. Awesome crudités and great selections of wine for it being free to guests. We had wished that the continental breakfast that was offered had more variety, but the muffins, bagels, and pastries that they did have were good. The rooftop lounge was so lovely, but it was too crowded so we popped our heads in just to see how it looked. Housekeeping would knock and ask how everything looked and felt in the room(one of the housekeepers even gave us extra chocolates that they place on the desks in the room :)) The day we checked-out, we went back later in the night to grab our bags to head back on the bus home, and the staff offered us champagne before we departed the city. They were so nice, that they gave us two glasses each. It was a very considerate thing to do, considering we had already checked out and weren’t technically guests anymore. They made our 2-night trip the best. We didn’t want to leave but we will be so excited when we can go back!

The hotel executes beautifully on the library theme. It's elegant, fun and comfortable all at the same time. Rooms are nicely furnished, and there are a couple of common areas that work well. Breakfast was a typical hotel-quality continental breakfast - a quick and easy start to the morning but nothing I'd go out of my way for. The staff were all kind and helpful. And the best part is that you can check out with any books you want!

Easily accommodated a room change request (I decided I wanted a larger bed). Front desk employees were very polite and helpful. Each room has a different theme to it, which I liked.

Went to the speakeasy on the roof, bookmarks. What a beautiful rooftop bar. A great place to grab a cocktail with your special someone.

I went to the hotel with a friend who was staying there, visiting for a weekend in NYC. The hotel's location is right in Midtown, within reach of any subway you'd need and walking distance to so many sights and notable locations, including Bryant Park. The hotel's rooms are themed on different literature genres, which was charming for bookworms like us. The rooms have books on shelves and are modestly sized for the location and cost. We got food from the restaurant, which was delicious, as well as partook in the nightly wine and cheese hours and later, a cocktail on the roof level. Literary themed cocktails with friends were great. The hotel also features light snacks and a tea and coffee bar free for guests, as well as a small film library for borrowing. After being out all day touring around, we came back, borrowed a film and made lattes to take upstairs. The whole experience was great. And I've already recommended the hotel to our other friends. Staff was friendly helpful, and informed.

Just had my third stay here and it gets better each time. Excellent location within easy walking distance to subway and Times Square. Susan and the staff are so welcoming and helpful. It is like coming home. The continental breakfast is nice as well as the nightly happy hour. A neat way to connect with other guests from around the USA and the World. Will definitely stay here on all future trips to New York.Give the 414 Hotel a try, you won't be disappointed.response / report this review -

We stayed at this wonderfully homey boutique hotel on our first ever trip to Manhattan. I do not think we could have asked for a better place. It was more like staying at a close friend's place, or a bed and breakfast, than it wss like staying at a hotel. The location is easy to get around from, being situated a block from Grand Central Terminal, and 10 minutes from pretty much any North or South local or express subway line you'll need. This is my new benchmark to which all other hotels will be compared.

All we can say is from the moment we step through the door on our many visits John and the staff treat us like family favorites. Great hotel, great location. Walking distance to the the theater district and excellent restaurants.

This place was amazing. Truly. The room was well appointed, well cared for and spacious. Something not often found in NYC hotels! The staff was very attentive and very helpful.
