The way Texas BBQ is meant to be! The place is huge; no worries about parking or seating. When you first walk in you go to the back and order your meats and pay for this separately. Then you walk through another set of doors to get your sides and drinks and pay for them. Sit down and enjoy the mouthwatering food!

We went in 15 minutes before closing to order some take away cold sausage and the guys at the counter said they were closed and refused to serve us. Very poor customer service. Best sausage in town but they have really lost my business from their lazy attitudes. The owners should do something about this. Makes sense to maybe say take away only at that point, 15 minutes until closing, but to turn away paying customers isn't good for business. Maybe there is a reason it is mostly empty of customers.
UPDATE: thank you for the quick response. I will return for some more cold sausage another time. We don't live in Lockhart but have been here many times to pick up cold sausage for meals during the week.. Perfect to freeze and use later even. Still a bummer to miss out this time since we don't live close.response / report this review -

First time I ate here. Quickly got the hang of the system. Get in line, place your main order, i.e..ribs, sausages, pork chops, ham, etc.. you receive it wrapped in brown paper and pay right there. Next you proceed to the next area for sides and drinks. The seating is in a huge open area with big tables. Serve yourself as far as fountain drinks, get your own plastic forks and knives from dispensers sat about the room. And then you set yourself at a table and ENJOY! Delicious and filling.

The people I went with made it sound like a casual dining restaurant which I usually enjoy but as the name suggests this is not really a restaurant. It is a lot like someone took the deli and meat counter out of a grocery store and put it in the middle of a bunch of tables and chairs. The first counter which is in a separate room is where you order meats. We ordered lean brisket since they were sold out of regular (we did arrive only an hour before they close) which I liked a lot better than every regular brisket I've had. We also ordered the ribs which I didn't try but every one who did said they were amazing. At the second counter you can order sides like baked beans (they had a little bit of spice in them which I liked but my mom and 1 year old said were too spicy), green beans (good), Mac and cheese (some said was good but my other son who's the picky eater would only eat a few bites because of the black pepper in it), and coleslaw (I think everyone who tried it said it was good). You could order drinks and get your own free refills of some of the beverages but there were no plates (only small foam bowls and plastic forks) and we had to serve ourselves out of the foam containers and paper wrapping the food came in. The bathroom was very messy. There were paper towels and toilet paper everywhere and one of the stalls I looked in the toilet was not flushed after being used. I probably would have enjoyed the food better if we had taken it home to eat on actual plates.

Kreuz as much more flavorful BBQ than Black's. There is a wide variety of different meats that you can purchase and the atmosphere is nice but not at all fancy. Everything is good except the bread. It is mass produced white bread. But people go here for the meat anyway.

I have been coming here since I was a young child with my grandparents, and I still do this very day.
It’s always been worth driving 3 hours from Houston to Lockhart just to go to Kreuz Market.
Once we finally arrive, we wait in that long line and order the truly one of a kind barbecue, my favorite being the linked sausage.response / report this review -

Absolutely absolutely absolutely love this place as well as its "rules". I even got a shirt. Restrooms are good and the live music is enjoyable to have while eating. My family are a bit of a ways away from this place, but it's definitely worth the drive for the amazing barbecue and music (if you happen to catch it).
Edit: Heard that you guys might now have forks? Please don't change, y'all are amazing already and to change the tradition may take away from the experience.response / report this review -

Love this place. Unfortunately they now have forks, which takes away from the well known history of this place. For a place so rich in history, why change it. What's next, sauce? If it comes to that, I fear I may not return. The attitude you'd get when asking for that fork or sauce was priceless. However, the food and staff are still awesome. To the new ownership Please do not mess this awesome establishment up any more.

We used to LOVE this place but sadly it has really gone down hill. We literally tossed all of our side dishes in the trash after a few bites. We only kept the leftover meat (which was significant) so we could feed them to our doggies. We specifically ordered moist brisket and it was as dry as a shoe. We were forced to used mayo just to eat it the few slices we forced down before finally just saying we didn't like it. I know this sounds harsh but we were truly so disappointed as this was a place we loved and would take all our friends from out of town to experience. Maybe they have a new owner? I don't know but it was just awful. We will not be returning.

This place is just as cool as their brisket and sausage is good. What a unique, authentic, great place to be. The brisket was what you dream brisket should be: smoked perfectly, great bark, finished just right. You don't need sauce or a fork to enjoy this work of art. I also had their original sausage. Hot dang was it great! Home made, looks like they hang it when they smoke it, great flavor, great consistency of the meat. Man. This place is super cool and really good.
Not to be cheesy, but it feel like you just walked into grandmas house and all the family is there. This is a really cool place to be.response / report this review -

The smokey flavor within the meat was amazing. We will definitely make the drive to visit again, the food was delicious. The line to order was long but service was fairly quick & there was plenty of seating.

My personal favorite TX BBQ joint, but primarily for personal reasons since I've been coming to this place my entire life. I can still remember coming here in it's original location where Smitty's BBQ is now located. Great brisket and homemade "german" style sausage! People either love or hate the sausage but it's what I grew up on so it's my all-time favorite! This is a "No Sauce" style BBQ with a great smokey flavor from lots of Oak wood and a great dry rub! Everything is good! Come hungry and order enough to take the leftovers home with you!

Remarkable brisket and beef shoulder. Did not try ribs. If your expecting modern bbq and coddling, go elsewhere. Way better than Black's.response / report this review -

Drove about an hour to try Kreuz Market's famed barbecue on a Saturday afternoon at about 3:00. Ordered beef ribs and brisket, but they were out of beef ribs, so I settled on brisket and sausage.
I loved the atmosphere of the place, and particularly liked the lack of pretentiousness (no forks, no sauce; just dive in and enjoy). However, I found the brisket to be dry and overcooked. Maybe I just got a bad one, but with no sauce, I ate a little of it and took the rest home to cook up with some scrambled eggs for Sunday breakfast.
I was really looking forward to the beef ribs, but I guess I have to get there much earlier in the day to get some of those. The sausage was juicy and affordable. Didn't try any of the sides.
Long story short, I'll probably give them another shot, but I certainly wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped I'd be.response / report this review
