We are from Dallas and Kona Grill was our spot there. They are just as good here in Tampa as they were in Dallas. They have a great happy hour drink and food menu. No matter how busy it seems to be there, it seems you can always find a table and the service is great.
Food is decent. Menu is impressive tons of options if you are not big on sushi. Specialty drinks are delicious.. Staff were so friendly They even stopped and wanted to join in for Christmas pics.. Good times!
My sister-in-law had a small wedding and decided to have a family dinner afterwards at Kona Grill. The ambiance was nice and the servers were attentive but 8 people out of our party of about 35 got food poisoning last Saturday. The people who got sick ate sushi and the fondue cheese. This was my first time coming here and while the plate I ate was decent enough I found that after taste testing my family member’s orders that their food was incredibly average. Way too expensive for the mediocre plates they serve. When I called the manager to let them know about the incident, she told me she’d call me back after addressing the situation but never did. My husband called back later and the manager then told him that their “logs” all say their food was at the correct temperature at the time. They’re never going to admit to fault and I knew that but an apology would have been the least they could do. Some of the people affected were children and they didn’t bother to make amends for their failure to keep their customers safe and for that reason I will never step foot in a Kona Grill ever again. Spend your money on good food. This isn’t the place.
The sushi was outstanding. Very fresh tasting. The poke bowl also looked great. Our service was okay, very friendly. The restaurant was freezing though.
My first visit. Checkerboard sushi roll was over the top (if you like spicy)! Can't wait to get back, again! Nice atmosphere and service was great even during lunch hours. Highly recommend :)
My experiences of Kona Grill only apply to Happy Hour since I don't believe the price of the food is justified during regular hours considering the quality. If you go during HH and get their various specials and rolls, they're worth the price and taste pretty good but if I had to pay the full price, I would expect it to be better. The only reason I'm rating it a 4/5 is because the service can be so much better for the clientele and area they are in. There is no need for me to wait 15 minutes for someone to get my drink order and wait another 10 for water to arrive. It's unprofessional and their training needs to be improved or they need to hire more waiters to meet the demand.
I give this restaurant one star, ONLY because the food is good. However, as far as service, tonight my husband and I received the worst of service possible. Keep in mind, today, we are celebrating my mothers birthday as she died of breast cancer 14 years ago. With that in mind, our server came to our table to 1) obtain our drink order, 2) bring us our drink and appetizer 3) bring us our dinner. She never once came back to check on us, our beers were empty for at least 15-20 minutes. The manager eventually sees my husband looking around to locate our server and he asks if he can help us. So my husband tells him, hey we haven't had good service tonight..and the managers response is 'right now? That's not possible you're her only table.' Obviously we ask for the bill and a box. The manager brings us back our bill and comps us for the appetizer. Unfortunately, we're not looking for a free hand out, just good service. Spent over an hour there and saw our waitress a total of 3 times for about 30 seconds. Don't waste your time here, head next door to Texas de Brazil..
Some good sushi. Good service. Delicious dessert. Don't order sprite unless you like sparkling water. The view is beautiful at night and the location is great. Recommended to eat out for dinner if you want to try some okay tasting sushi. I thought it would be more delicious, but it was okay.
I've recently stopped ordering from Kona Grill for large business meetings for my place of work (12-15 ppl per month). Although the food was decent, you couldn't beat the service! The level of service I've received these past 2 months have been absolutely terrible (new management). With the previous Manager (Jackie), my place of business received excellent service and delivery in appreciation of our business. I was so pleased and in return, I exclusively chose Kona Grill for large, monthly catered orders. Since Jackie has departed, I didn't even get a reply from the new manager, Tom, while trying to place my most recent order. I hope Kona Grill doesn't eventually close their doors due to poor management!
If I could give a negative star I would.
I went there for my birthday with a party of 11 and it was the worst experience. We got there at 8pm, was seated quickly which was great but that does not make up for the service or for the time it took them to get things out. It took 20min to get our first round of drinks which was all soda and no alcohol, over 30min to get a soda, when our appetizers came we never got plates, the plates came 15min after the appetizers. When the appetizers came we ordered our dinner which did not arrive to nearly 10pm.
Within that time we had requested the Manger 3 times before he actually arrived. When he showed up we expressed how we felt and we just told him to wrap it up because we were done. We expressed to him that we could understand if they were busy but all the tables around us were empty except for one in the corner. He did not apologize for the service or for the bad timing but he did comp our meal which I guess was his way of doing so.
Bottom line I will not be going back there, my birthday dinner was ruined. Myself or anyone in my party would not be going back and I would not refer this place. Good luck to anyone who goes, hopefully you will have a better experience.
I came for happy hour and sat on the patio. there were some pretty great deals and the view wasn't bad. My order didn't come out exactly like I ordered it, both rolls had that crunchy tempura flake stuff on them which was not in the description. I'm not a huge fan of tempura flakes but I was able to scrape them off. Sushi was okay, I'll probably go back.
One of my favorite restaurants! I love the chicken and shrimp lettuce wraps and the avocado rolls! Service is typically good. Happy Hour rocks! The views are nice. Good thing they got rid of the WASPS that were hanging around a while back!!
Absolutely Great!
We went there on Monday night and the outdoor sitting area was crowded -Good sign!
We ordered appetizers and main courses.
Our waitress Brandy was super nice and didn't miss anything the whole night. She also had great recommendations on what's best.
We ordered Pork tenderloin and Cajun salmon. Both were generous portions and very delicious. We had bunch of leftovers to take with since the main courses came with salad or soup. We chose soup, chicken chili, it was awesome and it came with three corn breads. Next time we will get also deserts, they sounded great.
We can highly recommend this place - everything was perfect - the service, the ambiance an the food!
