This little state park was pretty cool to visit. We chose to take the boat we rented over instead of kayaking, since it was pretty rough water that day.

Nice little stop to take a break from kayaking and to learn a little history. There is a small fee that you must pay when you arrive on the island.

It's really cool to come out to Indian Key. Getting out here can be somewhat of a challenge though. On the island there's very little except some paths and some trees. It's a beautiful little island. The water around the island can be interesting depending on the tides. If the water is flowing fast and you have to travel in the opposite direction in a kayak then moving a few inches out of the current can make all the difference. I think you can get kayaks over at Robbies.

We kayaked across, starting from the roadside parking area just north of the bridge by Robbies marina. There was a stiff wind and 3-5ft swells on the ocean side that day but the short trip over was still very easy as the shallow bay is well protected. In low tide it's entirely possible to get stuck in mud. Paddle towards the dock, before you reach it you'll see a sign indicating where they want you to beach your boat. Fascinating history, strange plants, and lots of solitude.

If you can get a boat or kayak to make it out here, it is pretty neat. For such a small key there are several man-made trails from the previous residents of the Key and an abundance of marine wildlife surrounding the waters of the key. Great for snorkeling with kids

This was a fun Island to explore! We kayaked to the island. There is a little inlet right before you get to the boat dock where you can pull in your kayak. The island has a lot of ruins and artifacts to see. We saw lots of crabs, fish, starfish, and nurse sharks. Do not snorkel in low tide unless you want to get stuck in the muddy sand!! High tide snorkeling is much better although the water isn't much more then 3 feet around the island.

Awesome little Island with interesting history. The area west of the Island is shallow for good wildlife viewing, but at low tide you can easily get stuck even on a Kayak. Tried snorkeling but visibility was poor. Saw four nurse sharks at low tide on the north side of the island.
