Hello! Just wanted to say Zander the pit bull is adjusting wonderfully! Thank you to the staff for rushing his release and allowing me to be able to take him home. He's a great dog.!!

Great place, friendly staff. I don’t really understand why everyone is so overly critical. It’s a clean facility with people who are volunteering their own time. Of course there’s going to be poop. The volunteers can’t stand their and wait for the animals to poop so they can clean it up right away. Also these animals have been surrendered for whatever reason and have no home so yes they are probably going to “look sad.” The staff was always petting and walking the dogs when I was there. It’s a shelter with ppl working for free. Cut them some slack.

The one greeter at the door was nice however, after driving 45 min to come see the cats/ kittens they had posted online we are told that they stop taking any applications an hour before closing. I understand there is a time frame for closing up, but as of this day there is NOTHING on the website that mentions this information. I now had to take my kids back to the vehicle crying and now look elsewhere. Bad business practices for your hours and time frames sending people away. I won't be back.

I love coming here to pet the cats. I can’t have a pet currently so it’s nice to just come and hang out with the animals and the cat rooms are the best. Volunteers are friendly and the building is well maintained.

I would have loved to volunteer but was turned away. If I could just stop in and volunteer, I would have likely been interested in adopting. It seems they are contributing to these dogs not getting homes with this policy.

They try to push animals they want adopted and will refuse to allow you to adopt the one you want. You end up leaving without adopting or adopting an animal that isn't what you wanted. It doesn't work out. They somehow believe that they know best even when they don't.

Horrible experience. They say they want to adopt out the animals. We were wanting to take two cats home with us. Because my husband & I rent, we were asked to show our lease that proves animals are allowed. We did thatshowed them the formal lease. But because the lease did not specify how many animals we are allowed to have, they turned the application down. REALLY???!! Take note--- if you rent & want to adopt, I suggest you just lie on the application & say you own your home.

Staff didn't allow my bf to adopt a kitten because his apartment complex hours were closed but we got there in time for them to call. We waited for an hour and it was a 40 min drive. All the time we waited they could of informed us. One of the leads didn't let me apply to take the kitten since it was out of the way for us to return since it was closed when we had already been waiting for so long. Do not recommend going here.

Visited during a Saturday in Summer 2017 to have a look at dogs available for adoption. While I appreciate the care that these people put in to the animals that come through the shelter, I couldn't picture adopting any of them. I was more interested in smaller size dogs, and there were barely a half a dozen of those to look at. I suppose this may be good news because that might mean that those dogs have no problem being adopted.

If you're into cats however, there did seem to be quite a number and variety to select form.

Staff was very helpful and the adoption process took about one hour. I ended up with a sweet kitty named Autumn and I could not be happier. I got a discount on most of the necessities and they also threw in a bunch of free cat litter and other stuff. All in all it was a smooth adoption and a good experience.

I am dedicated to the Humane Society. In the past, I have contributed to them financially. I currently volunteer there. The staff are always knowledgeable and helpful. They are incredible in what they do for the animals. I am definitely biased towards them, keep that in mind, but have no problem advising anyone to adopt a cat or dog from there.

Waited 3 hours for our new family member. Get there before 2p. They stop adopting paperwork at a certain time. Love the neat clean facilities. Animal well cared for, great staff. Have a lot of patience.

Overall, I highly recommend the Indy Human Society. Last summer my boyfriend and I adopted a puppy, and were very pleased with the adoption experience. We placed a hold on the dog, and after a thorough interview, were approved. The staff was friendly and answered all of our questions. Do not let reviews from individuals who were not approved to adopt, deter you from finding your next pet. There is specific criteria that the staff looks for when interviewing candidates, and it is important to remember, just because you come in expecting to leave with an animal, does not mean that anything is guaranteed.

$250+ to adopt a shelter animal? How ridiculous. Plus the facility had few adoptable animals, indicating they euthanize. Just a few cherry picked animals. I contacted the State They seem to want few kennels to clean. How absurd
