Recent cruise of the Hudson came across this little house , I think it may be part of the Holy Cross monastery in West park New York . This was taken this past November on what we thought would be a perfect autumn setting , but Mother Nature had other plans , and the fall foliage would not appear for another 3 weeks .

I was there one night back in the spring of 1982. There were 5 of us visiting from a group called The Covenant Players. I still have very fond memories of the place. We had a great breakfast in total silence with all the monks that one morning. Great historic building and beautiful scenery around it.

Phenomenal place. The brothers are the soul of hospitality (pun intended), the location and food are the best, and the sense of peace and serenity that surround the monastery is a true gift. Can't recommend highly enough.

I had the opportunity to spend a few days up at the monastery for a retreat in the fall. Open to the public, you may stay at the monastery with the monks. They will provide room and board. They prepare all meals which are well above average and I was honestly surprised at dishes that were presented. The food was worth the trip alone but the stay keeps one focused on what is important in life. A very short drive from the Poughkeepsie train station. The monastery practices the great silence from 8:30 at night to 8:30 in the morning. Highly recommend that you experience this.
