Our first trip (probably last) here was a bit disappointing. Seems the owner is trying to incorporate high end dining with a very casual atmosphere. I was wearing a dinner jacket and the guy walking in in front of me was in faded jeans and a flannel shirt. After looking at their online menu we just assumed it was a more upscale restaurant. But the saying is, never ass/u/me anything.
We were seated in a nice cozy corner (as requested) and the staff was very friendly and our service was very good. The food quality is what was disappointing. Not to mention the Halibut portion size was 3 ounces, and I don't mean 3.5 ounces. In the Chef's defense, that was conveyed to me prior to my order. Maybe I was just hopeful the Chef would slip and slice an extra ounce in there for mehe didn't. And at $30+ per plate the Halibut works out to be a little over $150.00 per pound. Market price is around $22.00 per pound. Nice mark up6.5x, but they are running a business.
Meanwhile back at the review: My Halibut was overcooked (that's the risk you take when cooking such small portions haha). My brussel sprouts were way over the top over salted. That had to be an error while cooking. No way that could have been on purpose.
My wife ordered the lamb chops that came in the portion size of 2. Yes, 2 whole small lamb chops. I have to admit that is the first time I have ever walked into a restaurant and seen only 2 lamb chops served. They call it the "small plates". So now we have upscale dining that's very casual tapas bar. Kooky.
Our bill worked out to be $150.00 + $50.00 tip. It certainly wasn't our servers fault they dropped the ball on our meal. This rarely happens to us when dining out. When it does we never complain, we just simply don't return.
If you decide to venture a trip here I hope your experience turns out much better then ours. I'm not saying I'll never eat here again but I will say they'll be other restaurants higher on the list then Halyards.
Best meal on the Island. Everything we ordered was over the top good!
The atmosphere and service is impeccable. The Endive salad is one of the best salads I've ever had!
Our servers name was Carol. Please ask to be seated in her section. She was so sweet and knowledgeable about the entire menu. She made all the right suggestions. Trust me on this one.
Great food, very freindly. Wheelchair accessible.
Had dinner at their Italian restaurant next door. Food was very tasty. I give them 5 stars.
We sat the bar. The bartender was engaging and kind. The food was awful.
Excellent service, food is top notch. Drinks are creative. Had the small plate of scallops and grapefruit basil vodka and both were excellent.
The food was quit good, but our waiter was rather full of himself. I asked a few questions about the menu and he seemed irritated that I was asking where the food was sourced from. After ordering a bottle of wine, I asked if the mini sails in the dining room were from a local kids sailing club or something. He then sneered and lightly laughed while telling me, "the name Halyards is part of a boat". Yes it is Mr Waiter, those are the the running rigging. My question pertained to the foresails adorning the walls. Alas, we never got an answer because we confused the poor guy with sailing jargon. Nice restaurant, but maybe they should work on their table side demeanor.
Good food
Took my bf out for her bday and everything was fantastic and the portion are a nice size. Nice people
My experience here was terrible. The waitress we had was very rude and did poorly at being a waitress. She treated me and my fiance poorly I think because we are younger than most people that go eat at Halyards, so maybe she didn't expect us to tip well. Regardless, she definitely made me want to leave no tip at all. Then the food.. my food was terrible. It was some type of seafood soup basically, which isn't what the name and description leads you to believe it is. It was gritty and tasted like watered down marinara sauce poured on top of all the seafood bits they planned on throwing away throughout the day. My fiance was strictly satisfied with her meal, which was essentially roast and potatoes. At the end of it all, I still had to pay well over $100 for both of our meals.
The perfect restaurant! My husband and I went on a long overdue date night and thanks to Halyards, it was perfect! The Maitre'D, the waiter, the food, the atmosphere, the location. Love this restaurant!! They strive for perfection and they achieve it! Laura Touchstone
