My NJ bride asked me if I'd take her there and I said not on or near Groundhog Day, so we drove up on a Saturday in early November. It's a beautiful drive from Pittsburgh and you can go down to the library and say hello to Phil himself through the glass.
I gave it 3 stars because the trip is what you make of it. Anita loved it and would give the experience a 5.

My boyfriend is a huge fan of the movie and musical, so we stopped here while we were on a road trip. It was quiet in the off season, but volunteer tour guide Bob was there to give us the whole history of Groundhog Day! He took us up on stage and even gave us some free souvenirs!

Well organized for the cold early morning of Feb. 2, but actually nothing special there the rest of the year. Go to Barclay square and the groundhog "zoo" to see the actual Phil. Definitely the place to be in early February but only for about 4 hours. The big party is in town before and after.

Sweet park to visit where the ground hog makes his appearance every year. Local artists wares on display. There's a hiking trail, too.

Fun place to visit. Obviously limited activities. Mostly photo opportunity. The trail is nice. Location is open during daylight hours.

What a wonderful experience! Bob Young, Gobblers Knob Volunteer Tour Guide was fantastic. It was nice to hear the history of the Groundhog tradition. Afterwards we took pictures, signed Bob's guestbook, received an official Ambassador card, and coin. My daughter also got to pick a bookmark with Phil's picture on it. What an asset Bob is to the whole experience.

GROUNDHOG DAY REVIEW

If your a fan of the movie, you must visit this place on Feb 2. They put on a great traditional show.

Only downfall is there is no warming center, no place to get hot chocolate, and the once its done they need to better organize getting all the people back to their cars. After standing in the cold for hours, and trying to disperse thousands of people in school buses with no heat was horrible. I literally stood for 2 hours waiting to get on a school bus. in fact many children were crying because it was so cold.

As a tourist, not familiar with the area, their processes and for the reasons above means i will never go back. They need to better organize the event or at least have a stand for hot chocolate.

It was fun to see this in person. There's a nice trail in the woods with statues and Phil Facts.
We were fortunate enough to have Bob Young, a volunteer tour guide, show up as we were leaving. He enlightened us on many facts and a much deeper history that we didn't know. Thanks, Bob!
