Walter has been a bit of a paradox for us. We have seen him be very big-hearted, thoughtful, and kind during our 7 months (3+ of which we were full-timers there). Walter obviously loves his son who is a REALLY good kid. He helped us move in and provided us with a map and distances for exercise purposes without us even asking. They opened a spot for us that was right by the basketball hoop. Melani Jones (the current Office Manager) worked HARD to get us upgraded to a better site and the trees are beautiful. Yet in the last month or so of our stay, we’ve had serious doubts as to whether we want to be depending on Walter and his campground for what we had hoped to be a good, long stay.
His preoccupation with preparing for “something bad” that is soon-to-be-coming at the detriment of the maintenance of what was once a truly beautiful campground was troubling. There were multiple jobs that had been started but never completed almost the whole time we were there: open septic pipes at a nearby camp-site, unfinished retaining wall project, damaged roofs in cabins, unusable child’s play structure (caution tape wrapped around it until the tape fell down), broken fence posts that needed repairing and were left broken even though there were replacements on hand. The road throughout camp had a number of potholes that were never filled despite having multiple piles of gravel stored around the campground that could have easily been used. The outside sitting area finally got fixed up and cleaned by one of our fellow campers so it could be used for their wedding just before we left. Spotty WIFI, gnats and other bugs up the wazoo, HORRIBLE water. The price of propane was the best around, but it took days in order for someone to actually get around to filling it. This summer, one of our fellow campers was hired to mow the grass & prune some of the trees & I think help with the road upgrade by the office. Melanie shared with us that he’d gotten a job elsewhere, and when asked who they’d be hiring to mow, didn’t see a need to hire someone new…the campers could take care of their own sites?!?!?! Who on earth will be mowing the general areas or the sites with no campers on them….do you realize how buggy it’ll get if no one is mowing regularly? What exactly are they investing the $500 a month site fee in? We have yet to receive our $185.80 refund due us, but will update this when it comes in the mail. If you could re-take all of the photos from the website or the Google reviews from the same spots today, they’d look a LOT different.
Why this neglect of what once was a beautiful campground? COVID has left all of us feeling a bit more fearful, but Walter claimed to be preparing for what he believed was impending doom which was why the bathrooms and showers couldn’t be opened for public use; they were being used as storage for his supplies. But when he claimed he’d added bombs to his stash, that was the straw that broke the camel’s back for us. What in the world do you need bombs for? His office manager, Melani J, told us the day we left that they weren’t bombs, but something else that you could purchase at Rural King. That didn’t really help matters any because then either she was wrong, and he did purchase bombs or she was right, and he was “just joking” about the bombs—which was NOT remotely funny or appropriate. He’d “joked” about kicking us out several weeks earlier when my wife had dared to speak about our concerns about his focus on preparing for the apocalypse at the great detriment of maintaining his campground. Again, not funny.
We had high hopes for Frontier Campground but in the end there were just too many issues of concern for me and my family to continue our stay.

We cannot express our gratitude enough on how wonderful Melani (Office Manager) and Walter (The Owner) were to us! We were in a bind, and they helped us out! The took exceptional care of us, and are so very kind, considerate, and understanding. I would give them 10 stars, if I could, on how great they were. They went above and beyond to help us out. Thank you!!

To be honest the place is nice, but I just found out today that the ditch/ runoff drain, is restricted by another family here. I go on adventures down there every weekend. The woman says that the ditch is restricted, and she says it’s on the website. I looked everywhere, and found nothing about the ditch. I am responsible and always prepare for any situation. I pack a medical supplies kit, food, pocket knives, water, a tent, gloves and more. I think I would be ok if the ditch filled up with water. I could just climb what I call the “mud wall” and would be safe. ( The mud wall is just so no water gets in the field above.) Like I said this place is great but I should be able and be fine on my own or with someone else if I was to go down there with everything I take, shouldn’t I ?!

My husbands work keeps us on the road. We have been at Frontier Campground since July. We could not have ask for a nicer campground and owner Walter. I felt very comfortable and safe here while my husband was working. It's a very clean and quite place to stay. I highly recommend Frontier Campground and if we are ever back this way I would definitely stay here again. If you are looking for all the amenities, clean and quite place to stay then Frontier campground is what you are looking for.

I grow tired of the back and forth with the "owner" not once have I been apologized to for my unfortunate problems with the campground during my stay. Had once during our talks you even tried to pretend to be sincere with a customer who had an issue with your campground than maybe you wouldn't be ranked one of the worst campsites in the area. You can check every site that does reviews on you.

I find it sad that you have no care for the individuals that stay at your campground, only about the money they can give you. So go ahead and respond with whatever you will. Say i never stayed, as seems to be your response to every bad review, although you have no idea what my name is. Threaten me with legal actions, as you have with bad reviews. We both know the truth behind this, pretend as much as you wish that your camp has no issues instead of actually fixing them.

Great atmosphere and very kind, polite owners!!! Even helped my fiancee, who is new to maneuvering a 30ft toy hauler, get backed in to our site. Amenities are great. My 3 and 4 year old boys love the playground and the trails. But were bummed that the pool was drained already since its unseasonably warm but it was expected. Great common area for kids of all ages with cameras as a safety precaution. Looking forward to the rest of our 4+ months here.

This is a nice, clean, quiet campground with a lot to offer. The owner and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone planning on camping in the Cincinnati area.

We stayed two weeks and had great time. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were always clean. We didn't use the activity room, but it looked like lots of fun, and during the summer I'm sure the pool would be too. But being autumn we had fun on the nearby bike trail, hiking, and playing at the playground area.
The campground is conveniently close to various local attractions, numerous shopping areas, yet surrounded by nature.
We have a tall fifth wheel trailer and so we are often nervous about low branches, but along the road and in the campground there was plenty of clearance for our trailer to park easily and without any problems.
Great place to camp!

We had a nice, pleasant stay here. The owner, Walter, is get nice and accommodating. The restrooms and bath house are clean and well maintained. Plenty of showers so you don't have to be stuck in a line. My kids loved the little play house in the playground area. Even on the weekend quiet hours are observed and the campground is very peaceful. It's a great place to camp whether your camping with a large motor home, a fifth wheel trailer, or even a tent. They also have a number of cozy looking cabins available.
All in all a very pleasant experience.

Frontier Campground has been a favorite stop for us when visiting the Dayton area since 2013. It's lovely location in a grove of mature trees makes it a wonderful place to visit at any time. It's close to the Spring Valley Wildlife Area, which makes it a marvelous base for anyone interested in bird watching or gentle hikes in the wildlands. It's staff are friendly and helpful, and have always been welcoming to my sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephews who come visiting us to go bird watching and then roast hot dogs and marshmallows at our campfire. We do not go camping to enjoy a game room with air conditioning and let the kids run wild on the playground or in the pool- we go to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of nature. We have just confirmed our reservation for our fourth at-length stay with them, and are looking forward to enjoying the quiet, peaceful space found at Frontier Campground.

This is a beautiful campground with a lot of tree cover. That's one of my favorite parts. Very nice play area for children. The bathrooms were very updated and clean. The owner was an amazing guy to talk to and was very helpful to us with working with us on everything. I don't get down to this area very often but I would love to come spend a week here. Loved it

I had a great experience at this campground. The facilities are clean and very accommodating. There is an activity room that has a lot to offer. The campground has a lot of spaces available and the office personnel were great to work with. They are friendly and willing to help with any issues that come up. I highly recommend this campground. I will be coming back again.

Did not like it! Our camp site had dog sh&t all over the place. We had to clean it up! Our neighbor were letting their dogs out a to roam and sh&t all over the place while we were there. Watch pet owners walking their dogs and not picking up after them.

-Fire pits are in a bad spot. In front of your site next to the road. Had to make sure when setting up that your awning was not close to the fire and you find a good spot to park your truck so much that it’s not close to the fire and not in your neighbors site.

-Water hook ups and power are within a foot of each other. And if the water is leaking, like the neighbors were, it pools up.

-Swimming pool was freezing, and this was the beginning of August

-Normally when we camp at other places there are a lot of people out and about doing stuff. This place had all the sites full, but it was a ghost town even though they were workers/contractors.

-We were supposed to get a Good Sams discount. When I asked about it he said that it was already applied. How did he know that I was a Good Sams member? He didn’t even look it up, just said that.

-The owner or whoever was there that weekend seemed a little off! Carried a gun! Popped up at our camp site out of no ware at night.

-We will not camp here again.

I made reservation several weeks in advance of our journey to Waynesville, Ohio. Since we had stayed at Frontier Campground a few years ago, and enjoyed our stay, I never hesitated to make another reservation there once again. When making the reservation Chelsey was very helpful in linking me to a 50 amp pull thru site that would accommodate our needs. Upon arrival we were treated rudely and directed to our site as we were children on our first outing. While hooking up my husband noticed a 30 amp at our site and the 50 amp on the site beside ours. My husband explained we had reserved a 50 amp site that we needed to accommodate our needs with the 3 air conditioning units in our RV and that my elderly parents needed for AC in back bedroom. When my husband questioned the gentleman in charge he became even more rude with my husband telling him we should not need a 50 amp hookup because he had never seen an RV with those needs. (We knew immediately he was the need kid on the block if he didn't understand that concept) He began to argue saying he would see what he could do while we were gone. Upon returning to campground we discovered he had done nothing to correct the issue. After searching for the gentleman we located him by chance outside the restroom area. He began telling us we would have to deal with it until morning. My husband told him he would like to get the problem corrected that night due to the heat and the need for cool air for my parents. My husband proceeded to tell him he would go knock on our neighbors door to see if he would allow us to switch the connections. The gentleman followed him to our neighbors door and began apologizing the our neighbor for the inconvenience of my husband was causing. The next day I entered the office finding they only had fire wood not the charcoal that I needed. And I might add nothing else in store! As I began leaving the store the same gentleman said aren't you in site 19, I said what is significance of what site I am in he was at a loss for words and I left. A few minutes later he showed up at our site to attempt to provoke an argument. I simply told him our disappointments and regrets for staying at Frontier adding that it had gone down hill since our previous stay. We have traveled 38 of the United States on many trips around America and have NEVER had an experience as this! Needless to say we will not return to Frontier for many reasons that I will now list. Lack of water pressure ( which is blamed on campground being full and I will add my showers were when NO ONE else was in shower house) , bathroom stalls so small you have to squat to hit commode to keep from hitting your head on the door in front of you, no where to put your clothes without them getting wet while showering, and cars parked everywhere which made it difficult to enter and leave our site. We even had to kindly ask our neighbor to move his truck the morning we left. We didn't want to bother the gentleman but as we left we noticed a closed sign on office door anyway. What a joke for a campground manager but there is an answer to many of these issues. The gentleman is no longer concerned with his regular patrons since he is full because of several pipeline workers staying there. He isn't smart enough to realize their job will be over and he will be left with same empty campground he deserves. They are only there because he is only campground in the area.

We enjoyed our stay so very much. The people are nice. This campground is clean and not loud and crazy. The price is great also. The ac in the cabin was a great break from the heat.. The shower house and restrooms are very clean. We will be back.
