We have rented many cars over the
years and never had any problems
using car insurance to cover for rental
Car. We were told when we arrived
at Fox they do not accept 3rd party
insurance and we would have to pay
$25 dollars a day. Double the original
price per day. I mentioned all others
have accepted over the years. They
said if I didn’t like it we could get
back on the bus go back to to the
Airport and find something else.
Appalled at this company. We called
Lift to pick us up and take to our
destination and rented from reputable
company the next day. Would highly
recommend NEVER using them.
Incredibly slow service. Had to wait well over an hour to get a car. They definitely need a new process to streamline things as it was taking at least 15 minutes per customer on average. My car was not clean, someone had smoked in it and there was pet hair all over. Everything ran fine though. Only my second experience with Fox and luckily there are a lot of other choices for next time.
This was hands down the worst car rental I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. I rent a car 3-4 times a year and this time took a chance on company I had never used before. Big mistake. It started with being told the airport shuttle rounds every 30 minutes and waiting a full hour to get picked up and taken to the rental site, only to be greeted with a comically long line-up and crowd of people. The crowd was eager to tell me that I was looking at a ridiculous wait. As I took my place in line a gentlemen walked out with his papers and warned me he spent 2 hours in line from roughly where I was standing. "Surely he must be joking?" I thought. The line didn't look THAT long. Little did I know the agents took forever with each booking as they gave each customer an extremely hard sales pitch to buy extra insurance, toll booth passes, fuel, etc. What should be a quick and painless process with a prepaid booking turns into 30-40 minutes of arguing about insurance requirements and hard pitches on why you should prepay for an entire tank of gas. It was almost comical watching the process take place for each person ahead of me in line. The only good that came out of this nightmare of a booking was making new friends in the ridiculously long lineup. The folks in line with me were all convinced they would dispatch with the agents ridiculous attempts at selling insurance and be on their way faster than the customers that went before. Sadly I watched each and every one struggle with the agents and yet when it was my turn I put up just as big as a fight declining insurance, gas, etc. All told it took me nearly 45 minutes dealing with an agent. This was AFTER standing in line for 2 hours and waiting an hour for the shuttle. Will I ever use this company again? Not a chance. I would rather buy a car for a week and then sell it before I would use this company again. I urge you to avoid this location. Spend the extra $50 to go elsewhere and save your sanity.
TLDR: 1 hour for shuttle, 2 hours in line, 45 minutes of high pressure sales tactics. Worst rental I've ever had. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Let me tell you why this place is the cheapest. First of all, Fox Rental is NOT located in the airport. You will have to leave the airport and travel about 5 miles away. Now there is a shuttle that will pick you up, however the wait time for these shuttles can run up to an hour, so get ready to wait. We got extremely lucky and got picked up in about 5 minutes but then we went to the other pit stops and heard the horror stories of others that have been waiting over an hour to be picked up to get to the Fox rental. Then the real waiting begins. By the time you approach the office you will observe what I mean. The line of people who have been waiting in this NON-AIR-CONDITIONED office is out of this world. After we got here the lines were out the door, then indoors it was still a 2 hour wait. A lot of people who got there and got tired of waiting decided to try and get another car from another company. At this point, and with that heat, the money does not matter, however, they found that leaving on a shuttle was just as difficult as getting there. Shuttles are also late taking you to the airport as they are to bring you to their offices. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your flight.
We did get a Toyota 4-Runner at a way better price than the competitors but we gave about 5 hours of our vacation to Fox.
If you do decide to book with them, I recommend that you do get the toll pass as some tolls in Florida do not have a cash option (They also don't have a pay later option as they do in Illinois) and you just have to keep going, that's a $15 dollar charge with Fox per toll.
I also hate the fact that I have to give them a 1 star rating. Stay clear from this business. I had rented a car from Fox a week in advance, which seemed like a great deal. We had some airplane delays and I called Fox to let them know we were going to be late. Our reservation was to be picked up at 4:00, and I was told that we had 3 hours from our reservation time to pick up our car or our reservation would be canceled. After arriving at the Orlando airport and making our way to the shuttle, we had 35 minutes to make it to the offsite location. We arrived at the location before 7 o'clock but had to wait in line. When we reached the counter the gentleman told us we were very very late. I explained that we had been in line and that we had been there before our time. It was not our fault that we had to wait for their shuttle and then wait to get to the counter. He said that they didn't have our car. I had a reservation until 7, and I was told there was nothing that they could do because the manager was gone and there system canceled our reservation. But they could upgrade us and we would have to pay more than 40 dollars more per day. After trying to make this man understand that we were not late. He asked me to take my husband (who was not happy at this time and was quite vocal) and go back to the airport and find a car. After many minutes trying to reason with the company we went to the airport and found a car with Hertz which at 8 o'clock on a Saturday night was not an easy feat nor an inexpensive one. But Hertz was wonderful and I would never rent from Fox Rent A Car again no matter how inexpensive.
If I could give them zero stars, I would.
This was on 9/29/2017:
My wife and I made our way to the off-site rental shuttle pick-up area, where there was a large group of people there already waiting. Some said they had been waiting over an hour already. We sat there for about 20-30 more minutes, watching other rental companies' shuttles come and go, with Fox nowhere to be seen.
Finally we see the Fox shuttle coming down the road and we all got our bags ready, expecting for the shuttle to pick us up. Instead, it sped past the pick-up area and stopped at the terminal entrance where it dropped off one person, and then quickly closed it's doors. One of the people with us ran after the van, in case the driver might have not seen us standing there, but when he knocked on the window of the vehicle, the driver wagged his finger at him and sped off, almost running the customer over.
My wife and I didn't want to deal with anything else after that, so we went inside to talk to another rental company, while a majority of the others stayed outside, hopeful that the next shuttle would pick them up.
We saw them come in behind us about 15 minutes later with forms from Fox (the driver came back to give them these forms without saying anything, then left), telling other rental companies that they should honor our original reservations, as if that is the other business' responsibility.
Turns out they had sold our rentals out from under us, and they were out of cars, even though we had all made reservations for our vehicles in advance. We ended up paying over twice what we planned to pay for our rental, since it was on such short notice with the other companies (I don't blame them, they had very limited vehicles available on such short notice).
In short, don't be fooled by the low prices they advertise. If you can get your rental LITERALLY anywhere else, even if it means paying more, then please don't do business with Fox. For your own sake.
It was so so. The driver was great, but no air-conditioning!! Instead of a 15 minute drive, it turned into a 35-40 minute drive. 45 minutes later, we get our car The ladies at the counter was real nice!! Don't care for the car. Feels like the transmission slips a lot!!
Oh well, e here in Orlando and that's all we care about!!!
I want to give zero star rating. Fox rent A car is worst and they try to loot your money. They first attract you by quoting $10 rent per day. Shuttle will take you to their location. Now, game starts. You have to wait 60-90 minutes to get your turn. They take 15-20 minutes per person. They insist you to take insurance. Then they insist you to take per day toll charges card, they mislead you that everywhere tolls exists and they don't take cash. Then they start insist for gas card. It is like torture.
The other thing is if you go after 3 hrs from the time of reservation they say reservation got cancelled and have to go for upgrade. I was in Q for more than one hour and I reached counter well with in 3 hrs but they say that I reached the counter after 3 hrs.
Though they attract you $10 per day but end of the day you end up paying $30 to $40 bucks per day. Total misleading. Be aware!!
If I could give them 0 stars, I would.
What was a $250 rental turned into a $760 rental. I was told I could not use a sunpass from a family member (when you can) and the tolls were $15 each. If you decided to just pay the tolls you would have a fine that would equal out to be about $30 a toll, not being familiar with tolls and with this being my first time renting a car they took advantage of me. The deposit amount is ridiculous and even more ridiculous if you have pay with a debit card. It's about $30/day if you have to (or just want to get rid of the company) return the car early. I was also told that they do not accept 3rd party insurance companies, meaning if I am covered by my insurance for a rental car and sometimes happens, Fox will not accept my insurance forcing customers to take a chance or buy their insurance.
Very disgusted with this company. Out for money only and will kill your vacation money with hidden fees! DO NOT RECOMMEND
I was nervous reading some of the negative reviews on here but I had a great experience. I knew ahead of time that there was a $150 deposit on the rental. They asked me about the plate pass and I assured them I was fine, as I have my own Florida SunPass. I know what I was covered for under my own auto policy and I had a copy with me. The girl behind the desk was nice and helpful. The shuttle bus driver was pleasant. The lady that helped me with my car in the lot was awesome and showed me all the features of the car (Camaro Convertible). This was my first time with Fox and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. They are not that far off the airport and there is a gas station right down the street to fill up before you return the car.
Wish I would have seen the reviews first. A $97 online reservation became an over $500 rental once there!!! I sent my husband to pick up the rental for our vacation and he called me AFTER PAYING THEM! $150 deposit that was not part of the original agreement. Over $20/ day for car insurance (no sir..we have Full coverage!) I don't even know what the other fees are yet and haven't seen the vehicle! He is stranded out there feeling as though he has no choice but to rent their vehicle instead of getting a refund (sigh) What do I do??!?
Customer service was not pleasant. The rules for a deposit with a credit card is high. The early return policy of the car is absurd. They force you into buying a toll pass because if you don't and go through a toll that you can't pay at a booth they will charge an outrageous fee. Plus the toll fee. Not being familiar with Florida toll system made me not want to take a chance. They definitely made money on us for the toll fees. This company is out for money only. On the bright side we did have a nice SUV that was enjoyable.
Good value. You DO NOT need them to pay for your tolls (carry a roll of quarters!!) and take pictures of the car before you leave the lot just to make sure that they didn't miss a ding on the car when the last renter returned the car. Also, I made sure that my personal vehicle insurance transferred to the rental, and that my insurance would pay to rent the car while it was being repaired beware THAT little loophole in their fine print, and you'll be good!
