Fike has a solid set of amenities: the rock wall, the pool, a whole lot of workout equipment/space, basketball courts, and more! It definitely gets crowded during peak hours (and after new years lol), but all in all it is a great place to work out. Shout out to the campus recreation staff! They are always very friendly and helpful.
It is a nice place to go workout I love it peaceful and quiet
Fike rec center is the biggest embarrassment to the university. Compared with other rival schools such as USC, Auburn, or NC State, Clemson's gym is a quarter of the size with poor quality equipment. Fike rec would be more fairly compared to a junior high school gym. Its not like the university lacks funds for a new gym either. They just spent millions on housing for bridge students (technically aren't even Clemson students). If the university really cares for the health and wellness of its students, they'd invest in a new gym that has a suana that doesn't break once a week, or a big enough free weight area where people aren't climbing over each other between the hours of 2-7 PM.
Update: Eh. Bit disappointed in this place, to be honest. I understand now why my friends here go to Gold's Gym instead of the free gym. My undergrad institution has less than half the students and a fraction of the wealth but a far better gym.
They don't even keep boxing gloves that can be rented out. Instead of having a second punching bag, they have this crappy broken machine. Everyone fights over the one punching bag and they probably spent more money on the junk machine. They got rid of the weights that had some type of rust sludge in them so I won't be dying of cancebolaids.
I find myself pretty regularly disappointed in this place. At least they've got decent hours. Not big enough for the amount of students here though.
Update 2: They have no system for checking equipment back in correctly. I returned a basketball and apparently they checked someone elses basketball back in since they dont card it back in. So I currently have no gym membership and owe $30 because of an awful system that says I never returned a basketball.
This used to be a great place to work out. Now they have new management they could best describe be described as totally incompetent. Place is packed to the rafters during popular hours summer hours are totally inadequate and intercession hours or a total joke. Combine this with the parking situation that can only be described as asinine I would have to read it now is not even worth your time of day. All this for a mandatory fee that Rivals gyms that you would voluntarily pay for. But I guess they need to take in these outrageous fees to be able to pay the ridiculous sums that they do to their "professional" staff. If Clemson University gives a darn about their students, which they clearly don't, they should fire the VP for student affairs and everybody on down immediately.
A bit too small for everyone who wants to use it. The weights are always a mess, and there are never any staff, like at other university gyms, that are ready to spot. There isn't a decent area for deadlifts and there is too few squat racks. Same goes for benches. It's hot all year and the layout wastes space that could be better used for more training area. However it's clean, the people are respectful and nice, and there are towels available for wiping equipment or sweat. The locker rooms are a bit of a shame and are outdated. Over all its decent for the low cost of a university gym.
