Wide selection of all types of food. The fresh produce upstairs is always good and well attended to. The meats counter always has a line so get there early if you need cooked foods or deli meats. The cheese selection is also very good, as are the meats and fish areas on the lower level. Overall quality and prices are tops!

Great grocery store of New York. It will cover all your basics, but also has an excellent selection of high quality olive oil, cheese, antipasto, etc. You can get a nice piece of meat. Produce is varied and generally good. You can get your Cheerios, you can your organics, you can get your Beaufort. It may not reach quite the level of speciality shops, but I would contend there is no week-day meal that could not be fully and highly adequately supplied by Fairway (unless your dailies are more specifically regional cuisines from other continents, but you could still probably go a long way at this store). Grocery shopping can be a dispiriting exercise or a exciting one, and fairway falls closer to the latter. Lines can be excessively long, but that's something people should be used for any store of quality in New York, unfortunately.
In short: hard to ask for a better daily, upper end grocery market.

In terms of pricing, fairway is good.
In terms of quality, whole foods is better.
Fairway supervisors and managers have to pay close attention to the hot bar and souls. Today I received a 50% discount for the hot bar and unfortunately I was feeling a bit cheapskate. I regret it!!!!!! I made a plate of buffalo chicken and it wasn't buffalo at all!!! I tasted jalapenos!!!!! I wasted $10 for nothing and if it weren't for the discount, $20. Insane that all the managers and supervisors hangout together in the front of the store instead of supervising everything including whoever prepares the foods!! I advise all supervisors to taste the food!!! If you wouldn't give it to your kids, don't give it to us!!!!!

First time there and probably my last - at least on the Upper East Side - the Upper West Side one was always ok. I really just wanted the kosher ground beef but I did the rest of my shopping there. I found Fairway to be about the same as Whole Foods price wise - except some items like milk, eggs and butter - Whole Foods has better prices on the 365 line. ANYHOW I found the signs to be confusing as to what was on sale - so I ended up with a bunch of items not on sale and paid more than I planned for the products. I am not a dullard and I do know how to read I don't usually have this problem at any store I go to. And to top it off, the person bagging smashed my fresh basil with my spaghetti boxes! I liked a lot of the products. Seemed like a great selection - some good deals (if you grab the right thing on the shelf that the sign by it appears to say is on sale.) But I will stick to Whole Foods.

PEDRO (store manager (heavy set Hispanic guy)) is a VERY BAD manager! My family and I don't know why Fairway would hire someone like him.

We shop at Fairway once or twice a month and spend over $400 each time. When we tried to ask him something, he started giving us an attitude and acted very irritated as if we were bothering him. He NEVER smiles. NEVER says hello. He does NOT appreciate customers. He does NOT seem to like working there either!

If he is stressed so much and does not enjoy working at Fairway, he should QUIT or get fired. He needs to learn how to be NICE and explain things in a courteous, nice manner to all customers. He acts like he is on a POWER TRIP as if being a manager is being god of the entire store.

Pedro also needs to make an effort to go out of his way to make customers happy and have their concerns/needs met, especially for long-time customers who spend a lot of money on the store.

WARNING: Do not ever speak to Pedro.

As long as he works there, we will not be shopping at Fairway. If he continues to give attitude to customers and act as if he doesn't give a damn, we will be notifying headquarters.

Pedro has NO RIGHT to give attitude to customers. He acts as if he is the only one who works hard. Who doesn't work hard in NYC? Who is he to act all superior and rude to customers? If anything, HE should be the nicest employee in the store and make an effort to make every customers' experience enjoyable so they want to come back!

Last time, we saw him talking smack about another customer to an employee. Ridiculous! Pedro gives a DISGUSTING, CLASSLESS IMAGE to Fairway. A customer has a right to ask ANYTHING to a manager, even STUPID questions. Why is he giving customers an attitude? He needs to be courteous and try his absolute best to address ANY AND ALL questions/concerns with a kind demeanor. We don't know HOW he ever became a manager there.

Pedro should NOT be working at Fairway. PERIOD.

Complete assortment (everything for grocery shopping) nice deli and cheese selection!
Store hours are very convenient!
Only downside is the price a bit expensive, especially on organic food (but not prohibitive for Manhattan)

Great all around grocery store. The Fairway on the upper west side is better. The Manhattan stores don't have the same regional sales.

I bought an edible photo sheet cake which came out fantastic! I gave them a sepia photo and minimal instructions, just white frosting with pink trim and this is what I got!! I was thrilled. You need to order 48 hrs in advance and speak to the mgr. Very reasonable $ too.

Best variety of fruits and vegetables but wtih a appearance that came from a war. As pricy as whole foods. At least the roast chicken is well seasoned and well ícones,it is Worth a taste.

My favorite local supermarket. It's among the cheapest on the Upper East Side, and the quality of the produce, dairy, and meat is always good. Plus they've got a great selection of both regular and specialty brands.

I needed a bunch of seafood, and some hard to find ingredients, many Asian, for a few recipes i wad trying out. Fairway had everything except one (yuzu juice)! Downsides are long checkout lines and unfriendly staff. Except for the guys at the seafood/meat counters. They're pretty cool.

Good quality groceries, incredible selection all the way to organic. well priced, Freshest produce in the city. A New York institution worth keeping and supporting - just look at the selection of olive oil, vinegar, cheese, olive, coffee, etc.
